Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse - Chicago
Book your next event with us
We try to eat at a nice steakhouse about once a month and I’ve eaten at lot. Gibson’s is far above most steak houses that we’ve eaten at
we had a very enjoyable time and the steak was great!!! To quote Fred Flintstone.
Excellent, and friendly, service per usual. Pricey restaurant, but worth it for a special occasion.
The food was perfect the staff was amazing they were very attentive to my guests and I the music was soft and relaxing this is a very cool cozy place to dine on great food
Great service and Great meal. This place is not inexpensive, but worth it.
I think the Chicago Cut steak is certainly nice but came out a bit cold. Overall, the food is on par if not slightly less than Chicago Cut Steakhouse. Service is fine but they are very busy. Been there once. Enough.
My first time there and we loved it. Definitely going back
The service was wonderful and so was most of the food. My WR's Cut (Ribeye) lacked flavor and was tough even at medium rare. First time I've ever had a mediocre steak at Gibson's
Efficient service, friendly staff, divine wine, delicious food, and we were not rushed. What more could a person ask for? I will definitely be back!
Wonderful place to enjoy an exceptional dinner. Listen to your server - the portions are HUGE and they do recommend family style on certain items. Casual wear adds to the comfort in the dining area, which is aesthetically pleasing. It was a little loud, as families with small children were present when we were there; but, we thoroughly enjoyed the dining experience nontheless.
Food was excellent and service was professional but felt rushed. We could not even sit down without being asked if we were ready to order. Happened a few times within the first fifteen minutes of seating. This was our valentines date and wish we didn't feel rushed
Never in 1 million years did I expect our visit to Gibsons steakhouse to be horrible! But, I ordered the tuna steak and it was ice cold in the middle. Our friends ordered a T-bone steak and she could not eat it it was so tough. My husband ordered the fillet mignon medium rare and it was so dry. Our waiter was absolutely wonderful but we will not go back.
What can I say besides this has quickly become our favorite. Excellent food and service that you can count on every time you dine! Already looking forward to next time.
It is a Chicago staple. The steaks are always cooked right and tasty. The sides are tasty as well.
Gibson's is a favorite - classy, great food with reasonable prices at lunch. Hard to find a place that actually serves lunch on Saturday or Sunday. A bit tired of the brunch scene. Asked for a particular seating area, and my request was honored. Very much appreciate that attention to customer service.
Great 'Chicago Place' for a steak lunch with drinks on a cold, gray Saturday in February.
Great food and staff.
Fantastic experience as always. Epic steaks, incredible food, all served with flawless execution. Chicago staple now and forever!
Excellent all around. Waiter was terrific. Quality of our steaks was perfect.
First our seating was in a corner where there was traffic and every car that went by blinded us. Very constricted space between a door and the wall made it very uncomfortable as well. Our soups of clam chooser and lobster bisque were amazing along with great service. However the steaks were a complete disappointment. We have been to many steak houses all over the city and by far the toughest. My wife ordered the W.R. Chicago cut and returned it twice, in the end not even eating. I order the Tomahawk chop and it contained more fat then meat, and just average taste. Definitely not a great dinning experience at all, although our waitress was excellent and did take care of us nicely.
Food was great and probably the best lobsters I've had in Chicago, but the service was subpar. They're too busy to keep the service at their highest standard. I recommend going there on week days. We sat close to the kitchen and we kept hearing a really high-pitched squeaking noice that could come from the door from inside or something and it was extremely irritating.
Our waiter was deceiving. Had us order all these sides when my supposedly a la carte steak already came with them. Next time we'll make sure we get Mo's section.
Always a great place for steaks. Excellent lobster bisque and the Chicago cut is the way to go.
Outstanding food and service. Gibsons will never let you down. Very accommodating to special food needs and truly boasts the best steak in the city!
Our waiter Claude was amazing and couldn't have been in a better section. The steaks are unreal, definitely one of the best meals we have ever had! We will be back next time we are in town. Thank you!
I would recommend Gibson's but not solidly. Food is good, but not what it once was.
Always enjoys dinner at Gibson's! Steaks are exceptional, lobster bisque was great, side dishes large enough to share & dessert was perfect!
This was a bad experience all around. First we were told we had to move from our table ( 1/2 Hr of being there having a drink before dinner) because the owner supposedly told the hostess the table was reserved. NO SUCH THING IN THE AREA of the BAR. Their website even says tables cannot be reserved in the bar area. I have come to Gibson for years and never had this happen. it was embarrassing to feel like somehow others can take a table. We were there for Valetine's -anniversary dinner and we reluctantly moved to another table buried in the back. The hostess then brought two women who were sitting at the bar to the table we are at. The two women who looked like they were there for a different reason. Throughout our dinner the two woman were being hit on by different guys and they were only sipping their drinks. Sure was strange considering we just were there trying to enjoy an evening. Other friends who we bumped into there also thought this was very odd. They used a different phase to explain what JUST took place. Now for the food event.
We ordered the colossal lobster / turf. We got the Lobster that was shelled ( the shell was very large as expected BUT only GOT PIECES OF meat THAT TOGETHER looked like 3/4 of the meat was not even there. You actually can get far more lobster meat from a a standard lobster at Red Lobster.
DON'T waste your money thinking your going for a large lobster. This was the most disappointing part. At other first class restaurants when you order a colossal two people can't barely finish it and end up taking some home. when we questioned where is the lobster we got a shrug of the shoulders & said that is what it is.???????? I have been going to Gibson and the prior (Sweet-Water) for decades. This was just a bad experience all around. I was so angry & I just ate, paid the bill and we walked out.
I ordered a 14oz filet, medium and got a side of French fries. The steak was SEVERELY undercooked and the fries came out half cooked and soggy as well. When I alerted my server of my steak, he raise his eyebrows and said “oh god yeah we’ll send that back”. They re-fired the steak, and when it came back the temperature was closer to medium well, but the crust was now well over cooked, over-charred, and stringy and tough. There was not enough bearnaise sauce in the restaurant to help it. My girlfriend got asparagus as a substituted side with her filet/mashed potatoes and it looked and tasted like they had taken it out of the grocery store and placed it under a heating lamp for 3 minutes. Their signature lemon sauce and spices on the asparagus was nowhere to be found despite us asking for it. We went on Valentine’s Day, I am sure the kitchen was even busier than normal, but it was a flat out terrible experience and we will choose one of the many other steakhouses in Chicago before ever going back to Gibson’s and spending that kind of money again.
From the moment we sat down and they came over with the plate full of different meat selections (which almost made me spit out my water from my mouth at how large the portions were), we knew it was going to be a delicious night. The lobster bisque was creamy and flavorful, the meat (Chicago cut) was perfectly cooked and had a great char on the outside, and the pecan pie wasn’t a slice... it was 1/3 of a whole pie. Everything was absolutely delicious! Make sure to come hungry and with good company! If you decide to come alone though, the strong drinks and live piano music will be all the company you need!
Always have an amazing dinning experience! The service is phenomenal and the food is perfect!
Service was right on! Prompt, friendly, and professional. Every detail. Food was the absolutely outstanding. Every employee is fully engaged in providing a superior dining experience. If you get dessert be prepared for the largest piece of cake you have ever seen. So good!
The food was great and the service was amazing, as always! Can’t wait to come back and enjoy it again.
This was our first time at Gibson's. We were a little bit apprehensive as it was Valentine's Day. There was no need to be apprehensive. Everything was terrific. Our waiter, Carl was the best. He made the experience enjoyable to the max. The food was great, prepared just as we wanted and just as it had been explained. We will definitely go back.
Jeanie was the best server we’ve ever experienced!
Best waiter ever
What a disappointment. While we appreciated the tradition and history of the restaurant, it is well past its expiration date. Food was diner quality, service was rushed. House salad was all iceberg; steaks were not cooked as requested; sautéed button mushrooms likely from a can: brussel sprouts tasteless. Not a high quality dining experience. Go elsewhere.
Unbeatable steaks and meat---but JEEZ do they need to work on their side dishes. The desserts are cartoonishly large-- fun to look at but-- but just unworkable.
My sister's birthday!
Their peppercrusted filet is unforgettable. Amazing.
Great atmosphere and great food
