Always enjoy pancakes on a Sunday morning at Gertrude's. Really nice service, very appreciative.
The crab cake was fabulous. I would return again.
Very special friends came for the day from L.A./D.C. They loved the crab cakes and the shrimp with grits, and the ambience was a balm of this year of stress. Our waitress was beyond compare.
Gertrude's is incredibly thorough with their distancing and screening. The servers are impeccable, and the food is always excellent. They also have lots of options for all dietary restrictions.
Service was good. Food is mediocre. My fancy grilled cheese sandwich (brie, apple slices, caramelized onions) was rather tasteless. My partner's fried oysters were meh, served with run-of-the-mill cole slaw and potato wedges. Go for the ambiance, not the food.
Our dinner at Gertrude's was superb. I selected the cream of crab soup, which was tasty and full of crab meat. My companions and I shared fried oysters in cornbread batter. They were light and very tender. I ordered the evening special of lightly fried cod with stewed tomatoes and spinach, again cooked to perfection. The "zucchettes", zucchini fritters, were a wonderful addition. I value this fine restaurant, which concentrates on the best of Chesapeake Bay seafood.
This was our first visit to a restaurant since covid began. We had a diverse group to satisfy. My 94 year old dad was not happy with his rib.(too messy!) My husband found the salmon dinner very dry. My daughter and I enjoyed our meals She had lamb meatballs and II had the cod. Out side was too cold for my dad , although the staff did try their best to help make outdoors more comfortable. Inside became very loud when a group was seated in the back corner.
Two of us had Gertie’s crabcake entree for lunch and I thought the huge amount of red potatoes was more central to the plate than the single crabcake and slaw combined. This entree was listed as the house specialty and the most expensive but I didn’t find the presentation or the food itself interesting or special. The crabcake was mild and just ok- not much lump crab meat and seasoned very mild. The slaw also just ok and not very fresh- refrigerated and stored for a while. My niece ordered the seafood salad which actually looked fresh and inviting. My niece said she enjoyed her meal. Lunch for three with wine, a shared dessert , and 20% tip was $162.00. I hear the restaurant just opened up after being closed for a while due to COVID. Maybe still working to get back to their prior standard!
The outside garden seating was delightful. It was so nice to be back after a year of the covid lockdown. Our server was attentive, the meal was good as usual.
We love the relaxed and understated elegance of Gertrudes.
Afterwards we spent 90 minutes at the museum. (Make sure you make a reservation for an entrance time.) Museum is limiting the number of visitors to maintain social distancing.
My friends and I love Gertrude’s
Whether inside or out, Gertrudes continues to offer excellence at all levels. Cannot wait to go back in another couple of weeks.
We dined at Gertrude’s on a Wednesday evening, immediately following the close of the BMA at 5:00 pm. We were seated promptly and our server introduced herself quickly as well. We ordered drinks, appetizers, entrees and (later) desserts. The service was timed well. Two of us ordered the soup of the day, which was potato-leek. One ordered the Maryland crab soup. All were excellent. For entrees we had a special of the day which was a shrimp pasta dish, the fried oysters, and the faux crab cake (for the lacto vegan diner in the group). Everyone was pleased with the entrees. The portions were generous and they were served at the proper temperature. For desserts we ordered ice cream and one diner ordered the “candy bar.” Again, all items were generous and delicious. We had not been to Gertrude’s since well before the pandemic, and we will definitely be coming back again. Our out-of-town guest (the lacto vegan) was quite pleased with the number of items on the menu that fit his diet, and also that they were clearly marked on the menu. Our server was attentive and pleasant. All in all, a great meal with an old friend.
We were able to sit outside, which is always a wonderful touch. Our waiter was attentive and pleasant, as was another man who assisted. The curry pan-seared cod was outstanding. I've given up on cooking cod because it always turns out rubbery in my kitchen, so I was amazed at how it melted in my mouth. My daughter, who normally does not like coconut, finished off my plate after enjoying her Back creek Inn Crab Quiche. My mom loved her Crab Quiche, too. Finally, we all enjoyed sharing her treat of the Japanese Cheesecake. Thank you!
Everything was lovely about my dining experience..from the outdoor ambiance of the fountain and sculptures to the pleasing food and friendly host-Paul(who brought me my umbrella after I forgot it at the table after we left) and stylish hostess-Alexis. The waiter was kind and helpful. I highly recommend Gertrudes and look forward to dining there again.
The only reason I said the noise level was not outstanding was because - and this is very picky of me!- the fountain was a bit loud! Otherwise, everything was all it could be.
I had missed Gertrude's. It's my special place to relax, feel pampered by the wait staff, and enjoy delicious food. The Shrimp Salad on a roll was so good and the other guest is still talking about the crab quiche. I had the peach sorbet & it was like summer in my mouth. Gertrude's always gets my best recommendation.
My birthday experience here with my husband was very good. I enjoyed all the food and dessert, as well as the music that was played. I had Gertrude crab cake with fries and slaw, and cream of crab soup and a Caesar salad. All was very good. For dessert a chocolate fudge Sundae. Also, enjoyed sangria. The waiter, Tom, was excellent. The only comment my husband had was that his shrimp salad was kind of bland. Other than that he enjoyed the sangria and cream of crab soup and Caeser salad as well. I will definitely return soon.
Very gracious host upon entering the restaurant. Safety precautions were in place. Pleasant setting. The food and drinks were good. The wait time to order everything needs attention. Our waitress disappeared quite often for long periods of time. Other than that, our party of 5 were satisfied with our experience.
Glad to get back after being closed due to covid. Great out door setting.
Enjoyed the covered outdoor seating but was really disappointed with my meal. Service was solid.
I have dined at Gertrude's numerous times and I am never disappointed. The staff is courteous, friendly and very competent. The food is always excellent.
Lunch to celebrate two birthdays. Food was delicious and the outside seating was perfect. A beautiful space. Funny thing happened. The server brought a complimentary piece of cake to our table and said it was ordered for us by a friend that knew we were coming. We had no idea and when he said the name of the person neither of us recognized it. It turned out to be for the woman at the next table!! All of us were having birthdays. He let us keep the cake! Unfortunately it wasn’t chocolate haha
Wonderful evening dining outside again. Food was very good and service was excellent
Always a pleasure to visit Gertrude's ... and what a location.
I just love the outdoor space, but still wish the fountain was a little less noisy.
While we loved the setting and we loved the food, and we loved the server we had, we had 2 problems. When I arrived at the Maitre d podium the man asked rather rudely, what did I want? I said we were here for dinner, and he asked if I had a reservation and he said wait a minute. I was the only person there and waited and a young man came and took the temperature and then took us to our table.
We were there for quite a while, looking at the menus, and still no server. Then a server took the order for a table of 4 in front of our table. I caught her eye when she finished and said, I didn’t know who our server was, but that table came quite a bit after we did. She apologized and quickly took our drink order and came back with the drinks and said she’d be our server, did we have questions about the menu. Then the other server came and said she’d take over, but the very nice server, said, no, she’d take care of us. So it seemed the server who was supposed to be ours never came and this nice lady took very nice care of us and advised me well as to my entree questions. It was a wonderful experience thanks to her and the food and the ambiance.
This was enjoyable..the ambiance was great! I can’t wait to go back.
Crab cakes were mediocre. Hamburger was way over cooked.
Gertrude’s never disappoints ....we love the food and the cocktails.....
The menu has something for everyone....walking in the sculpture garden after Sunday Easter brunch was a bonus.....
always a treat. thank you to john & the team for providing an oasis with lovely offerings for all. the hat parade on easter was a welcome surprise. can't wait to return!
I have dined at Gertrude's on a number of occasions and I have never been disappointed. Their brunch menu is terrific!
Overall a very pleasant experience! The food was outstanding. We went for a Sunday brunch and ate inside but the outside dining also looked very inviting. I ordered the crab quiche which was accompanied by a lovely fresh green salad and we shared oysters. I requested some horseradish and it was brought promptly and it was fresh. I can still taste the wonderful fresh flavors of the crab quiche a day later in my mind. Bravo! I can't wait to go back, since there were several items on the menu I wanted to try. Luckily my daughter is only a Sophomore at Hopkin's so there will be more opportunities.
Beautifully presented very good food. Great ambiance.
Our first time dining in the restaurant in over a year. IGertrude’s hasn’t missed a beat. Wonderful food and good service.
Went for a sporadic lunch
Requested outdoor seating and were given a lovely table by the fountain. Felt very safe as our temperatures were taken, Tables very spaced out, and servers were all wearing masks. Food was delicious (brunch) and blood orange mimosa was so good! Service was professional and unobtrusive. Beautiful flower arrangement was on the table.
Due to the lower capacity required by pandemic restrictions, the restaurant was quieter than usual which was a huge benefit. It is usually abnoxiously loud due to diners who are inconsiderate of others. We actually had the best of many dinner experiences at Gertrude’s. The food & service are always excellent, but the noise level is often unappealing. This night was wonderful all around.
World class service, delicious food expertly prepared, oysters on the half shell were out of this world!
I always love coming to Gertrude's. The staff is exceptional and food is delicious.
Great service and food as always.
