Would have been great if it was OPEN!!!!! Get it off your website!! It's closed and GUTTED!!!! Stop taking reservations for it!!!
CLOSED! No warning. Glad I read the reviews the night I was going or I would haves paid for an uber to an EMPTY PLACE!!!
Open Table failed me, the place is closed and it would not let me cancel the reservation so I could not use Open Table to find an alternative
We had a reservation, but when arriving discovered the Restaurant had gone out of business,

We were excited to try Gentry, but when we arrived it was totally closed down. It seems like if a restaurant closes, they should be required to notify open table. We were super disappointed and it changed our plans for the night.
THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED. NOT A CHAIR, TABLE, BAR STOOL IN THE PLACE.
Gentry room was closed. On a Friday night, closed. Yom Kippur, yes, but why would I be able to make a reservation if it's going to be closed. Almost everything was open.
Place is CLOSED!again...fifty characters later...the place is so closed it is an empty storefront!
This place is CLOSED. Emptied out. I showed up with a reservation, having received not notice at all.
We had a dinner reservation early on Saturday night and were seated at a table in the bar as we did not know that the upper dining room did not open until 8:00 p.m. Bar was fun and lively but very loud as would be expected so conversation at our table was difficult however we had a window seat so people watching was interesting. Service was great, drinks came fast and often, food was served quickly and did not disappoint . Well worth the trip and we will come again and would love to see J.D there next time.
Gentry was a great find in Charleston! We sampled their house Bourbon and loved it! Great food that fits everyone taste buds and even has a good music scene for the weekends. Would 100% go again (as a Charleston staple) and would check out the Hotel too.
The bartender Greg is fabulous! He is handsome, fun and makes great cocktails! Marvin, the Chef, is friendly and cares about the customers! The deviled eggs and brisket burgers are delicious! And the Gentry Bourbon Mules are worth a trip! And you never know, you may rub shoulders with the Southern Charm cast and crew!
Amazing local place to eat and experience Charleston - Parker and Preston are so charming - must order the pamento cheese and salmon salad (don't forget the cobbler).
Great service , the food was excellent.
We chose this restaurant because we enjoy trying new restaurants. When we arrived, (with a reservation), they had no room for us downstairs so they sent up upstairs for the amazing view of the city of Charleston. The room upstairs was empty, except for the bartenders behind a large bar unpacking boxes and several tables, only a few of which were set up for diners. We sat down by the fogged windows (there went the view) wondering if we should leave, but decided to stick it out anyway because we liked the waiter who attended to us pretty quickly.
We figured out pretty quickly that this restaurant is really a bar, with bar food and a few large dinner offerings. The music got louder and the lighting changed into a disco feeling as the evening progressed. Fortunately, the food was delicious and the waiter was very nice.
I don't think we'll be returning for dinner.
We came here on a Friday night after making reservations on the open table app. When we arrived on time for our reservation the entire downstairs was full. The host explained to us that he didn't have our reservation. When I told them I had made it on open table he half laughed at us and said "yeah, we don't even use that". Why is this establishment able to book reservations on the app if they "don't use it". We were told that everything downstairs was full but we could sit upstairs and we agreed that would be fine. We went up stairs and the bartender and server almost looked shocked to see us. We were given one menu to share because they said they weren't ready to be open yet. We ordered drinks and the room about 10 mins because they didn't have the upstairs bar set up. At this point we were just annoyed. We decided at that point we weren't going to be staying so we made reservations at 82queen while we finished out drinks and then left. Itching about this place blew me away and I was severely underwhelmed by the staff from the moment I walked in. We plan on moving to Charleston in a few months and I would probably not return.
No passion- food was chain quality at boutique prices
Really enjoyed our dinner! There were 4 of us out for a girl's weekend and it was easy to get a reservation, not too noisy for a bar/restaurant, and had a good selection of wines and specialty cocktails. While the menu was a bit limited, everything we ordered was delicious so the smaller menu definitely works here. You could tell each dish was carefully prepared.
Only slightly negative thing was that it did seem a bit touristy (I realize the irony as we were tourists) and less crowded at 8 on a Friday than we expected. We thought the whole Southern Charm association would make for great people watching but it ended up just being a nice dinner.
Overall would definitely go back.
Food was great but the service was a little slow. Old fashioned cocktail was A+++++
Such a disappointing expirence! I'm a huge fan of the Southen Charm franchise and thought it would be fun to visit Gentry, since I had seen it featured so much on the show.
From the food, slow service and the TERRIBLE lighting, I must say it was not the fun dining expirence I was expecting. Although the Gentry bourbon is quite good, the drink prices were incredibly high ($32 for 2 drinks). The food was mediocre at best and had little to no seasoning. The service was very slow (almost 45 min for our entrée), although I believe they were understaffed that night.
Save your money and go somewhere else. Not impressed and am definitely not coming back.
Our first vacation to Charleston. We had much great food there. We consider the Sunday Brunch we had at Gentry's the very best we had. I recommend the Low Country Salmon Hash. The dishes inspired by the renowned chef, Marvin Woods, to be a real experience. Their signature cocktails are a treat, especially those made with Gentry Bourbon.
Very disappointed with our trip to Gentry's. Limited menu to choose from. Sides did not come along with entrees. Ordered the steak salad and it literally was just arugula and meat. No added vegetables. We got there for happy hour only to find out that we couldn't get any happy hour specials because we weren't sitting at the bar. Overall a big disappointment for us.
Greg Blake is amazing
This was our first time at Gentrys. Parker our server was terrific. He was attentive and fun. He had some good recommendations and we were not disappointed. We definitely will return. Thank you
Diet Coke was flat. Sent back twice, must come from spout not bottles. Flank steak salad was cooked and flavored to perfection but greens were warm and wilted . Sad. I was hoping for Sermettes
And was distracted by a big old bar trying to be a restaurant. Too bad.
My husband and I were visiting Charleston for a few days and decided to try Gentry’s right around the corner from the Renaissance hotel where we were staying. The setting was comfortable and inviting with exposed brick walls, large picture windows and a vibrant bar. We were immediately greeted by our waiter, Parker, who was very personable and upbeat. We decided to start our meal by sharing the warm kale salad with strawberries, pecans and a light bacon dressing...delicious! We then both ordered the crispy chicken. This was seriously the best fried chicken we had ever eaten! The batter was light and perfectly seasoned and the chicken was amazingly moist. We also ordered a side of large asparagus which were grilled to perfection and the spaghetti squash with country ragout was very flavorful. Throughout the entire meal Parker was extremely attentive and knowledgeable about the menu offerings and their ingredients. And Haden, who assisted Parker, had a warm personality and made sure we had everything we needed. We were too full for dessert but thought we’d sample something from the extensive bar menu. Parker recommend the Superfecta bourbon/whiskey flight to acquaint us with some of their offerings. What a fun and delicious idea!
Overall, we had a wonderful evening and will definitely return the next time we’re in town....great food, great atmosphere and great service!
Gentry was very nice overall. Service started off slow, but eventually picked up and the food was outstanding. Definitely try the Gentry Bourbon, it is actually very nice and should be considered along the same quality level as most small batch bourbons. They have a lot of great cocktails but try it neat or on the rocks to taste it's multi-tiered flavor profiles. Shrimp and grits was excellent as was the crab dip and pimento cheese sandwich.
It was so loud that we had to yell across the table and we actually were sitting beside each other. It was extremely noisy to the point of uncomfortable. Otherwise, the food was good. It was slightly over-priced; but, was exceptionally good fried chicken, collard greens and macaroni and cheese.
Riley our server was phenomenal and even though we weren't trying to be difficult, some of the guests arrived late and there ended up being more than we thought; requiring a table move . Even through all that Riley was helpful and accommodating without being frustrated. We had a great time with her. The food was good but the menu was not very big. We wanted a little bit more options. That being said, the pimento grilled cheese and the salmon was very good. Try the bourbon flights if you are new to bourbon. If you like bourbon, order the Moultrie Old Fashioned, Very delicious... Highly recommend. The wire-wire is a great Vodka cocktail if that is more your style. You owe it to yourself to check it out!
We were really looking forward to trying Gentry. We had an 8:30 reservation for a Friday evening. Around 9:00 we were informed that we would have to vacate our table for the DJ who would be setting up at 9:30. We were halfway through our entrees when we had to pick up and move to a table in the back next to the restrooms. This really ruined what was supposed to be a great evening with friends. Once the DJ started up it was so loud that no conversation could take place so we left. Most likely we will not return.
My husband and I ate at Gentry. We are locals and had never eaten there before, but wanted to try some place different. I am very happy that we chose Gentry. We started off with the deviled eggs appetizer. It is not prepared like your tradition deviled eggs. They were full of flavor and extremely good! For dinner, I ordered the Hanger steak which comes with a side of mashed potatoes. The steak was perfectly cooked exactly the way I wanted it. It was wonderfully seasoned and very delicious! My husband ordered the fried chicken, which comes with macaroni and cheese and collard greens. Oh my goodness! I can't explain how AMAZING the chicken tasted. My mouth is watering right now just thinking about it. The chicken actually melted in your mouth! It is unbelievablely phenomenal! Best fried chicken I have ever had. The macaroni and cheese is sooo goood!! There is multiple cheeses used and it's some of the best mac and cheese I've had. The collard greens are just as tasty. It's hard to find someone who can cook collards right, but Marvin is a damn good cook! You are amazing, Marvin! Can't wait till we eat there again! Trey, our server, is great. He gave us really good recommendations on what to eat and drink. I was a little disappointed that they did not have a Pinot Grigio on the drink menu, but didn't mind because I also love a good poinsettia (champagne and cranberry juice). Then Trey recommended that we try the "Moultrie Old Fashioned". This drink is so smooth! You must try it. It's made with their own Gentry bourbon and it's great! Since eating here we have told everyone we work with and all our clients that we've talked to in the past 2 days to eat here. On a scale of 1 to 10, Gentry's is a solid and an amazing 10! I am so excited that there is finally a local place that we can eat and I actually love every item that I ate. See y'all soon!
Limited menu but the food was delish!!!
Great service and food and our server was familiar with the menu and helped us make choices.
Good food, not particularly creative but definitely tasty. Small menu. Pretty decor...
Staff seemed very unenthusiastic about being there. Little knowledge of bourbon selection considering it being a large selling point of the concept. Food was great. Kudos to the chef, need some work on FOH morale and training
Loved the whole experience. Especially the band and meeting JD.
Excited about eating southern cuisine that is "ACTUALLY" authentic and prepared the way locals who know how to cook would create! The fried chicken, collard greens and mac-n-cheese was the best I've ever had in Charleston and at home for that matter!
With a side of Gentry Bourbon, how can you go wrong? It's such a great addition to King Street!
An absolute must try! Best fried chicken ever! Food and service was fantastic!
