Ever wonder what it would look like if San Francisco and New Orleans had a baby? Enter Gentilly, opened in November 2019 by San Francisco Excelsior residents Alexis Hyatt and Sarah Duncan, whose shared love of New Orleans food, drinks, and culture inspired them to create a French Quarter-themed bar and restaurant that pays tribute to the flavors, aesthetic, and spirit of New Orleans, and bring a little bit of Bourbon St to Mission St. with Cajun comfort food and cocktails that’ll leave you feeling good from head to toe. A truly unique spot in the Excelsior, with a beautifully decorated front lounge and back dining room, a classy front parklet, and a a ramshackle glam patio featuring a mural done by local artists in the Mission district.

Whether you’re in the mood for a Po’ Boy, Gumbo, our signature Maple Bacon Glazed Fried Chicken, or any of the lovingly cooked comfort food dishes on our menu, we bring the heat. Don’t forget to save room for beignets…

The food is amazing . We have tried almost everything on the menu and have never been disappointed. The staff is friendly and you are never rushed. We are so fortunate to have such a wonderful restaurant in our neighborhood!!

Savory and delicious! Definitely enjoyed the meal. Went with a larger group of friends and was able to try various items on the menu. Highlights were definitely the gumbo, beignets, hush puppies, Cajun pasta, and the crispy Brussel sprouts.

What a surprise, engaging staff, casual surroundings, and terrific food. We went for the seafood etouffe and loved loved the ribs. Finished with beignets and sauces- deeeeelish

The server was very personable & patient. The food was pretty good. The seating space was a bit tight. Noise level was on the loud side. Will return to try out other menu items soon‼️

A gem in the outer mission! Front room is a nice laidback cocktail lounge. The dining room in the back serves delicious New Orleans style dishes. We had the shrimps, brussel sprouts and chicken wings for appetizer and the bbq pork platter and maw maw’s gumbo. All fantastic. Make sure you have room for the beignets, they are a must!

I enjoyed the ambiance and drinks. The food is pretty good too. Worth a visit if you like creole/Cajun which is really hard to find in SF.
