This visit was nowhere close to what we have come to expect from our past experiences. Our waitress was by far the worst waitress we have ever had in any restaurant. She ignored us and even rolled her eyes when I told her for the third time we needed drinks. I had to grab the manager to get anything we needed. We ordered the same food we usually get but this time beyond disappointing. Soggy salad, greasy lasagne, dry chicken. So disappointing. I really hope this was a fluke and not the new normal.
The food was great and service was super professional ! Will be coming back soon !!
Fabulous new space in the casino. Service was amazing. Price may be a little high but I felt for a social occasion- it was perfect. The portions were not huge like some Italian restaurant standards, but I though they were nice sized. I’m definitely coming back.
This was our second visit to GDL and it was even better than the first. I don't know how they pulled that off, but we were the lucky beneficiaries to their culinary alchemy! For starters, we ordered a slushie cocktail whose name escapes me. I'm not usually one for this type of libation, but I am so glad I ordered it! It was an off dry mix of limoncello, rose wine, and campari, I believe? Anyhow, it was excellent! If you're into really well-made cocktails, go to GDL. For an appetizer, we ordered the antipasti with prosciutto, parmigiano, caponata, giardinara, and olives. WOW! I could have easily doubled the order and had this as dinner. So excellent...this is tasting the Italian soul. Entrees were equally delicious as I ordered the Parmesan crusted pork chop and my wife ordered the Rockfish cacciatore. The creamy corn was a wonderful side dish. Add in a very diversified and approachable wine list and you've got a really nice restaurant that serves excellent food. And as an added plus, the staff is professional, friendly, and attentive.
One of the best meals I’ve ever had in my entire life! Every facet of this meal was on point. The atmosphere of the restaurant is amazing and the service was outstanding!
I ordered Chicken Parmesan. It comes with no pasta which I thought was kind of weird but okay. You can order a side of pasta for like $5, ok no big deal. The side order of pasta was about as big as the palm of my hand!! Really? Food was good but not for what you pay. So $30 later. I realize this is a more high end restaurant and I don’t mind paying more but if you’re gonna charge extra at least make it bigger to have enough for your meal. Sheesh!
Three of us had dinner this evening and for the most part the food was very good. The arugula salad and buratta appetizers were excellent. We had the lasagne and the chicken parmigiana- both very good. However the steak was ok - had little seasoning on it and was quite fatty ( both inside the meat and a very thick rim of fat. )Would have been much better had the fat been rendered.
The food was very good let me start out saying that. I had high hopes going as I know Giana’s food, have several cook books and was excited to eat at one of her restaurants. The restaurant is placed in a casino, a casino that is very loud at the Baltimore Harbor and filled with customers that are solely focused on gambling. It’s not very clean it’s not kept very well so to use the restroom you have to leave the restaurant and that was a dealbreaker for me to start with. The wait staff while attentive and polite were dressed too casual for this restaurant. I believe that she has a standard that she is trying to hold for her restaurants and this just missed the mark. Sorry.
My family of 4 adults went to GDL for my husbands 63rd birthday. We were looking forward to it from seeing Giada on Food network and we like Italian food. We had reservations and when we arrived at 5 the restaurant was not ready for service. They asked us to sit in the lounge area and said they would get us drinks and popcorn... they gave us popcorn only. After a short wait we were seated for dinner. The place is beautiful, open with large windows. The wait staff including our waitress, Raven, were great. The bread brought to all tables was delicious with an herbed butter. We did not order drinks or appetizers. The entrees we ordered were the Campanelle, lasagna with a side of polenta, chicken parm with spaghetti and the crusted pork chop. Portions are on the smaller side , no leftovers. The food lacked seasoning, flavor. The Campanella and chicken parm sauces were sweeter then we're use to. The pork chop could have used salt, which they don't provide at the tables. The lasagna and polenta were good, but I expected more from an Italian restaurant. Not sure if going again
Food and service were very good. I would like to go back on a nice day and enjoy the patio.
Pork chop was great cut and cooked perfectly! The antipasta was amazing!
I was really excited to try this restaurant. However I was thoroughly disappointed. The atmosphere was completely uninviting, there was nothing intimate about the restaurant. The music was bad, the lighting was too bright, the tables were so far apart from one another. The food was fine - except for whatever I had that made me sick later in the night. I had high hopes for a Giada restaurant but it honestly cheapened her brand. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. If you’re looking for good Italian in Baltimore there are 25 other options that are better.
Great menu and great wait staff. Everyone happy and asking how things are going. Certainly will be back
My wife had the chicken picatta snd thought it was a bit bland. She really liked the homemade pasta. I had the chicken parm, which was very good, but did not come with any pasta. I added a tiny portion for $5. Overall, it was ok. We enjoy the food at Vivo better. We will go back again and try some different dishes.
Excellent service and menu. The whole branzino was the best I have ever had! The antipasto was delicious and creative. It was a wonderful experience.
We had a special event in Baltimore. To include 7 people arriving in 3 cars. We arrived at parking garage and because it was a game day at the nearby stadium our free parking turned in to $40 a car parking. With 3 cars that would have been $120. We said no thanks and turned around. We didn’t think a game day was a “special event” day since there are probably more than a hundred game days at the baseball and football fields. We called earlier in the day to verify our reservation. Would have been a good time for them to advise us on the parking situation. Very disappointing experience
The food was terrible. The service was horrible. The waitress barely paid attention to us. I would never go back. The atmosphere was nice but the food had zero taste. Very bland.
GDL is so worth the trek through the slots. Impeccable and genuinely friendly service. Our servers were on top of their game. The food and drinks are very reasonably priced. The antipasti platter was well worth the $15 for 2. Beautiful and pristine design. They even have an outdoor balcony for dining outside. It overlooks M&T stadium and that part of the city skyline. Really lovely!
Lucky enough to have been to Giadas in the Cromwell and was happy to see she opened a restaurant on the East Coast. I wouldn’t put GDL up there with Giadas in Vegas but food was good and we still had a fun time
Really appreciate the service by our servers Jaclyn and Mary. GM manager Jason checked to make sure food was to our liking (and it was!) Definitely worth dining there again.
We were not impressed at all. Because of the open layout, we were right in the middle of the restaurant and next to a loud large party. Other than the noise, it started out well - the server seemed fine until she took our order and we barely saw her again. We had to wait for her to come back to check on us to tell her my meal was not properly prepared - and my request was made per her suggestion. My water glass was empty the entire meal, in spite of a designated water filler. We were excited to try gdl for a special dinner and we were very disappointed.
For appetizers had the antipasti platter and oysters, both were excellent! Entrees, had the Chicken Parm and the Tuscan Rib eye. Both of these were also excellent. Best steak I have had in a very long time.
We had lasagne and pork chop. The food was good, it could have been dressed up. The lasagne came with nothing, what would it cost to put a few pieces of garlic bread. The pork chop came with a grilled whole tomato, who eats a grilled tomato with pork chops. They could put a few pieces of asparagus or another vegetable for $26.00.
Delicious signature drinks and dishes. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. Bright modern atmosphere.
Disappointing...maybe it was the casino setting & decor, which was loud, noisy, cavernous. Although friendly, the staff was not trained enough. Manager was gracious about it but was quick to point out that they're only in their third month. Being located in the inner city the inventory of good, experienced wait staff is limited. It could also be that I'm too old and it is more of a millennial-type place. Oh, well...
GDL is spectacular! So beautifully decorated, amazing staff and glorious food! The management could not have been more attentive! Fahtimah and staff made us feel like VIPs ! If in Baltimore, I would not hesitate to go there! Everything was so tasty!
Great first experience. Raven was amazing. Will be back soon.
Our date night and first time at GDL was a meal to remember. Delicious food, friendly wait staff, and quiet environment.
We were very please overall, especially the value. Costs were very, very reasonable, given the setting (Casino). Only negative was service was a bit slow and spotty on small things (e.g. had to ask for bread twice, incorrect meal delivered to our table)
Even though we had to wait over 1/2 an hour past our reservation, the manager came over to us and comped all 5 of our drinks without hesitation. All of our meals were excellent. From the charcuterie board (best ever) to the various vegetables and of course the main dishes were all to die for.
Our reservation was for 7:30, we were seated about 5 minutes later. Then left sitting until 7:55 when someone came up to offer water. I let them know I was trying to decide if I should just leave. The water server got our waitress- who had no idea we were in her section. We were promised perfect service from then on. Unfortunately that was just the beginning of the disaster. No one ever reviewed the menu with us, servers arrived with food and drink for other patrons three times. At 9, when all we had been served was appetizers and one cocktail; we decided to leave. The table to our left had a manager visit to check on their experience, he never acknowledged us. The table to our right had impeccable service; we spent the time it took them for a menu review, appetizer and drink round, served - and almost completed eating for us to just get the attention of our waitress for the check. We left and went to Gordon Ramsey's with no reservations and had an amazing meal with 5 star service. We will definitely be going back to Gordon Ramsey's in the future!
So good!! Def go back
The service was outstanding and formal. I went during restaurant week so I had the minestrone soup, chicken parmesan, and the lemon smashed potatoes; for dessert I had the tiramisu. Everything was great! It's definitely perfect for a date night or a special occasion. If you have the money, you could go more often, but it is fairly expensive.
Great food, service and a very cute atmosphere. All dishes were excellent - especially the Crab Arecini.
Went for Restaurant Week with, of course, limited menu options, as you would expect.
Crab cakes arancini are wonderfully unique, Baltimore-twist item; and the Pizza picante I had was filling for a guy who is hard to fill; wonderful and spicy! Had to carry some home.
My wife's chicken parmesan was quite a helping and we shared with each other.
A great experience inside the Horseshoe casino, which has attracted its share of national chefs' kitchens.
The food and atmosphere were delightful and the service was wonderful. I have already told friends to try it!
We had a wonderful anniversary dinner! The hostess was outstanding! Our server, Raven, was wonderful! She was so friendly and helpful! We had such a good time! The staff made sure our evening was special. The food was great, we had the minestrone soup (awesome!), Baked lasagna and the chicken parmesan. All were delicious, including the bread and butter. Then the incredible desserts! The brownie sundae and the tiramisu finished it off perfectly. We will be back again! Thank you to the staff for making our evening special!
We came for Restaurant Week and weren't disappointed. The spicy pizza was amazing. The house arugula salad didn't seem to have any candied lemons in it though. The chick parm had an amazingly fresh sauce and was well done. The brownie sundae was a bit too much coffee for me, but my wife liked it.
Great food and great service. We were really pleased with our experience. Thank you Jacqueline, Fatima, and team.
I had a fantastic meal and experience at GDL. The service was impeccable!!! I dined during restaurant week and the portions were huge and everything was delicious. I will definitely be back!
