Gaylord's at Kilohana Ratings and Reviews
Gaylord's has an attractive setting and should be a great place to eat. Instead, indifferent service and overpriced food choices prevent a pleasant experience. The main dining area was not full when we were there and yet we were constantly looking for our server for one thing or another. The food took forever to arrive and was only warmish and not hot when it finally arrived. We waited for the plates to be cleared. We waited to be asked if we wanted desert. We waited for the desert. It was so bad that we made a game of guessing how long each wait would be and then timing it on my phone to see who had the closer guess. You know there's something wrong when customers resort to this. For the rich prices they charge, you'd certainly expect first class service.
Gaylord's has the potential to be a decent place if they could just act like the customers mattered and stepped up their game. We won't be going back, however.
Service was slow and poor. We felt ignored. There was a set menu for Vaelentine’s Day. Soup or salad and my wife and I ordered prime rib. We ordered drinks prior to ordering our meal. It took unreasonably long to get our drinks (cup of hot water with lemon and a glass of wine). The waitress had to be reminded to get our drinks. We asked for bread with our soup but we didn’t get any until after we were done. It took a while to receive our main course. I cannot imagine taking that long to cut a piece of meat.
The prime rib was delicious. My compliments to the chef. Too bad he or she is not surrounded by good servers. 4 - star meal with 1-star service.
Went for Valentines Day Dinner as a party of 4, we were seated right away, and had great attentive service. I wasn’t aware of a fixed menu for Valentine’s Day when I made the reservation, which was a bummer- but the main course we did pick from the list were excellent. The Dessert Trio was delish And It was a great place to spend the holiday.
We have dined at Gaylord’s many times and always have had a great experience. This lunch was not great—we were seated immediately but waited at least 15 min to get water and for our waiter to take our drink order. We asked for a napkin as one of the place settings did not have it, and had to ask twice to get one. Asked for ketchup 2 times and never received. The whole experience was sub-par, others around us got their food before us, and we only had 3 people ordering before them. We like Gaylord’s but definitely not up to the standards we have come to expect.
Every aspect of the meal and ambiance was excellent...the young man who was our waiter was horrible for a restaurant of this level....made our whole event a poor experience....have been there numerous times and this makes us wonder about coming back and certainly think about recommending to friends....very disappointed.
We have loved previous visits to Gaylord's Sunday Brunch; however, our recent experience was a disappointment. The ala carte menu had changed with a very poor omelette being substituted for the signature steak and egg option. Service was exceptionally bad---we had to ask twice for coffee when we arrived and had to wait until we could flag down our server for refills. Juice was not offered.
We do not mind paying a premium price for exceptional food and excellent service; but, the food and service did not warrant the premium price on our most recent visit. It was a disappointment.
I think the food could have been good, if it wasn’t cold when we finally received it. We were waiting an hour for our appetizer, our waiter kept looking at us, but didn’t check on our food. I think it was sitting in kitchen for quite a while. People that arrived after us were served a lot quicker. When we finally got our waiters attention and said we’d been waiting an hour our food came right out. Appetizer and main course! Entree was cold.
We had been so looking forward to this experience and were sadly disappointed. The service was horrible. Also they didn’t even offer us a discount or anything for the shoddy service. The busboy however was amazing. I wish I could remember his name.
Because of our horrible experience I could never recommend this restaurant.
On our previous 5 trips to Kauai, we have enjoyed an outstanding lunch at Gaylord’s. This trip, we took 2 friends who are traveling with us to Gaylord’s to celebrate our friend’s birthday. The difference was that this time we went for dinner. We were extremely disappointed in our meal and must say we did not enjoy this time. Will hesitate about returning.
This is our second visit to Gaylord's. We live in Wisconsin and had dinner last year in February when we came to Kauai, so we were pleased to come again. The food both times was wonderful. We had catch of the day Mahi mahi and it was a delicious meal. The service by Davea was excellent , too.
Well, there were 5 in our group and 4 ate lunch. My hamburger came grilled with the parchment paper cooked into the burger . I returned it and the waiter returned with another burger which was cooked to the point of charcoal. I bit into it to be fair and the burger crumbled as chunks of charcoal from the meat fell in the plate. I ate no lunch , he brought be a mini salad between the two burger wait. I was so hungry when we left. Not a good experience for me but the other 4 n the group enjoyed their lunches.
We have always come for brunch. Its a lovely environment - great live music on a porch setting. The buffet is nice from sliced roast beef, fish, lox, delicious cheeses, and many breakfast items. Being a lover of veggies - and having special dietary needs - the best omelet to order is plain cheese. Our server forgot to put in our order this most recent time, but has never been our experience previously. Surprised us - no "I'm sorry. I'll check on it." even after 45 minutes.
That said, it is an enjoyable place to try for brunch.
Beautiful location and nice staff. The food was good but not great. A bit too sweet and inconsistent. I don’t know if we would go back but on a nice night it’s a good place.
I might suggest they include a bit of the history on the menu. It’s interesting and should be talked about.
Gaylord’s has gone thru many changes thru the last 15 years. Glad to say that the menus is back to the true Gaylord traditions with a local Kauai flavor and spice.
All vegetables are local grown with a great taste. Tradition of old time Kauai with fish and meat dishes in a great atmosphere.
Give them a try.
We went with family on our Kauai trip. We had been 20 years ago for a couple's dinner. Food and service were excellent as we remembered. The price was now quite comparable to other restaurants on the island. A little loud and dark because of the setting but otherwise a very good choice. Excellent local food.
Beautiful setting for Brunch! Live music that was a perfect touch. Brunch dishes that stood out were the Roast beef, deviled eggs and Masalas. Just think it is a bit over priced for the selection and $10 for a mimosa on top of that will make me think twice about going next year.
Great place for lunch. Only when ordering a salad try to stay away from the chicken. Wife had added the chicken which was very dry. Even waitress said they have hard time keeping it moist. She took cost off bill. Overall a great place to eat. We live on the island and go for lunch every so often. Highly recommended
We had a business dinner and the service was superior. I believe our waiter was Jeff and he
was fantastic. They had wine on special that was a very good value and great selections.
The fresh fish was cooked to perfection. I normally don't eat dessert but we all had dessert and
it was delightful. We will be back for our next business meal in February.
Gaylords has been our go to restaurant on our last night in Kauai before departing for the airport. It's a beautiful setting and the service has always been pleasant and excellent. However, after this visit we both agreed we weren't interested in going back. Salad consisted of wilted/soggy greens, Cioppino was fish(y) in a marinara sauce and our favorite Coconut Banana Pie didn't wow us like it did on previous visits.
Our evening was perfect. We started with delicious cocktails in the relaxed, soothing bar. Our service was impecable and well trained. All of us enjoyed and shared our food. The only Vegetarian was pleased with the selections available. Farm to table, the salads were so fresh, one could tell it came right from the organic garden.
