It was raining which only enhanced the ambiance of this classic Hawaiian plantation. It is rich in history. I was thrilled to be there and enjoyed my wandering on the grounds. I wish I could say the same for the fish tacos. They were dry and boring. There are places that rely on reputation and habit. This may be one of them. I was disappointed in the food. I’ll go back, try a different dish and expect more. Mahalo.
Gaylord’s was an excellent place to eat after visiting the plantation and the rum tasting. Great food and service.
Food was good not great but the sever we had was terrible. Never told us about the specials was not attentive. Food service was extremely slow and she never came by to explain what the problem was. We always go to Gaylord when we are in Kauai but this time was not a pleasant experience.
I have been to Gaylord's many times over the past 25 years on my almost annual visit to the island. I am never disappointed! Whether it is Sunday Brunch (went twice in my 4 week stay), evening meal before departing for the airport or lunch on a lazy day of sightseeing, this is one of my favorite restaurants anywhere. Ambiance can't be beat! History of the plantation is important. Shops are wonderful.
Don't miss it.
We have never been disappointed at Gaylord’s. The Cioppino was outstanding and the Filet melted in our mouth. The live music was so-so but we went for the meal and the atmosphere that surrounds this old plantation house.
My wife and I had a reservation for a 6 pm dinner on a Wednesday night. When we arrived we were seated immediately. We requested a table with a nice view and we got it. We had our menus and got some water. Unfortunately we did not see a wait person until 15 minutes after being seated. When our waitress made it to our table she was very friendly and helpful. In my opinion the restaurant was understaffed with wait personnel.
We saw an interesting looking French white wine on the wine list (Vouvray) and asked our waitress about it. She was not familiar with it. So we picked a wine we knew.
After these issues in the beginning we had a wonderful time with the poke appetizer, cioppino and the fresh catch of the day. Everything tasted very good.
Celebrating my husband’s birthday & marked as such in reservation. However, there was no mention of the Birthday at check-in or by the wait staff. The Prime rib was excellent-the Mahi Mahi was fair. Our waiter seemed uninterested in our table & quite short with us. It was a weekday and not busy. He definitely could have put forth a little more effort & a smile.
Excellent dinner and service.
Three different main courses all excellent. Attentive service. Top notch mai tals.
We had been there before so were slightly disappointed this time because the drinks were terrible. Seems like you could order an entree before.
We went for Sunday brunch. Great food many choices and great patio setting. Staff was above friendly and great service by everyone
Gaylord’s is one of my favorite places on Kauai to visit. We usually end up there at least 2 times every visit. At dusk and in the evening it is absolutely magical. There are also various shops and tours you can take while on the plantation
Great food, great drinks, great service and great atmosphere...need I say more?
This is the first time to go here for dinner shich was really good.
We had a Boneless Short Ribs, Seared Scallops, Grilled Filet Mignon and a Island Caprese fro 4 of us to share which were enough for us.
I have been here for only lunch but I would like to go back for dinner again.
fantastisches essen, super essen, tolle drinks, perfekter Abend
great experience as usual, great server and the food was hot and delicious
Such a lovely place, setting, atmosphere very beautiful location.
Always a favorite spot on our trips to Kauai. Food is very good and best at dinner. The Mai Tais are excellent but a little small (meaning you will want more). The surrounding grounds are great a as well.
The server at the prime rib table needs to use the fork instead of this hand and fingers. Holding on to the meet and serving it to your plate with his fingers in not proper or clean.
We had the Sunday brunch. The food and ambience were both great. The manager, Randy, made us feel like valued customers. The servers and bus boys were very attentive. There was live Hawaiian style entertainment, and we able to enjoy it without being rushed.
Service was very good as Debbie took very good care of us. The only disappointmen was there was no Kama'aina or Senior discount, as the Sunday Brunch is a bit pricey at $38/person. Very good selection of desserts. The garlic steak was tasty and the mahimahi was very good. Excellent Kauai Coffee...always hot and the service kept my cup full throughout the meal.
Nice outdoor seating with live music. Food was delicious and tasty. Service was perfect. Food served fast but you weren’t rushed. Nice spot for a relaxing meal. Highly recommend.
We enjoyed our anniversary dinner at Gaylords on 10/27/18. The food, service, and ambiance were the best we experienced on the island. It could not have been more perfect.
Gaylord's has been THE restaurant for our wedding anniversaries for over 20 years. Great food, service and atmosphere. Quiet enough for casual conversation. Solo guitarist was perfect for atmosphere. Open air covered dining area is looking out over Hawaii's natural beauty. The building was originally the home for a large sugar plantation. Many shops and other activities. A must stop when visiting 'The Garden Isle'.
Where to start? Our server, Ipo, was absolutely adorable and delightful. She was very attentive and helpful, and had a very engaging personality The new manager, Randy O’Connor (aka Randy O’Connor with three ‘O’s”) also gets two thumbs up. We felt very welcomed and cared for by both of them, and did I mention that our drinks and meals were all amazing too?!? Be sure to ask for a “Funky Monkey” if you’re ordering an alcoholic beverage and tell Randy you did so st Bill’s suggestion!
Our lunch was excellent at a table with a beautiful view of the gardens of the old plantation house. Most tables are in the covered veranda area at the back of the plantation house, which is a lovely setting. After lunch we strolled through the boutiques that now occupy various rooms of the original mansion, making a lovely vacation excursion.
Gaylords is a very non pretentious restaurant with down to earth good local food and ambiance with a clever little courtyard so everyone is not too cramped. The food is local and a real treat. The fish we split a salmon appetizer and then had maki maki and tuna for dinner were all outstanding. Vegetables were cooked (grilled) perfectly. We will go back.
This place is a gem. We had Sunday brunch and it was so delicious. See also my review on yelp. The outdoor patio seating is perfect for enjoying the lite music, luau, garden and the trees. The shops and art gallery upstairs are an added bonus.
Fantastic service, food, and ambiance . Very enjoyable and perfect for an anniversary brunh
Debbie was amazing!
The food was delicious.
It is a relaxing place for a special occasion.
Great place to eat. We have been going to Gaylords since 2006 when ever we are on Kauai.
Great ambience and very good food. Wait staff and restaurant manager were great. Thanks for a memorable evening Gaylord’s.
Great atmosphere! The food is good quality and creatively prepared. Service is generally quite good with some servers being more engaging than others.
Wonderful ambience, good food and excellent service. The experience was enjoyed by all (3 generations). Take the informative and fun train ride through the property and enjoy lunch at Gaylords.
The menu was great. We had the filet and found it to be very salty, as well as the sauce for the filet.
The crab cakes were a bit dry due to being overcooked.
Nice setting. Well known for prime rib. If you want that make sure you go on a night they are serving it as they do. It every night.
Sunday brunch is a must, lots to do, shopping, Rum tasting and a pottery shop on site. The brunch has a nice selection, loved the fresh fruit and the desserts were delicious.
The service was fantastic and Bobby waited on us with a great attitude of caring about our experience! The live music provided by the Father/Daughter duo was top notch and relaxing!
While OpenTable lists Gaylord’s in their “under $30” list, Gaylord’s advertising make them out to be a high-end restaurant. If you understand that Gaylord’s is the restaurant in a tourist trap, it’s not bad. Food is about on par with the Olive Garden or an inexpensive steak house with little effort made to plate attractively. Service is inattentive and bored early on a Saturday night. Kudos to the busboy for noting that one person didn’t like ice in their water but the waitress didn’t notice the raw dough in the deep fried bread pudding nor the fact that the dessert was untouched other than to cut open the three dough balls. We were asked twice if we wanted alcohol but when we said we’d already had drinks in the lounge, we got very little service after that. Service in the lounge should have been a clue that this restaurant experience would be uninspiring since they came to ask for drinks before the whole party arrived but ignored us even as they watched us get drink menus from other tables. The location is fantastic and worth a visit but skip Gaylord’s and it’s bar/lounge.
