After reading and hearing so many good things about the atmosphere and views at Gaylord’s,
We decided to book a 6:00 reservation on Sat nite. We were so looking forward to celebrating our last nite in Kauai and our anniversary a little bit early. (which I noted when we booked on open table). We arrived on time. The restaurant was not overly busy or booked. We were shown to a table that had views of the kitchen, hostess stand, and gift shop, not the beautiful courtyard views everyone talks about, even tho there were plenty of other open tables. It was noisy and did not have pleasant views. So rather than linger over a bottle of wine and dessert as originally planned, we ordered the cheapest thing on the menu, left quickly, and continued our nite elsewhere. Unfortunate for us and the server who was very nice. The food was ok but unfortunately, the over all experience was disappointing. I never understand why restaurants seat the worst tables first and leave the better tables open especially when someone has taken the time to make a reservation. So disappointed.
Fabulous atmosphere and staff. Music was light and excellent
We are so happy that this is Gaylord's again. We were on Kauai two years ago, and the restaurant had changed hands and was really bad.....
Thank you, Dava our waitperson, for a wonderful evening!!!!
Gaylord’s is a restaurant that is excellent for great food, special occasions, and/or just a great dinning experience. All present had great food, and the taste and quality was out of this world!
Went out on a limb and ended up loving Sunday brunch here
Not empresses. Food just ok. Not worth the money. Could be great if the food was better
it was our 26th wedding anniversary. a great place to celebrate it
Go for a meal, but spend the day! There is so much to do on the property. Go with the intention of spending some time, not just eat and run. Make it a destination. The food is wonderful. The bar is historic...have a drink before dinner or coffee and dessert after dinner. Wander the grounds, get a tour...so much to do here.
Very good food & great ambience! Recommend this restaurant without hesitation. Great place for lunch or dinner. 😃👍
Gaylord’s is on an old Kauai plantation with a beautiful outdoor patio for dinning and an expansive lawn beyond the patio. The ambiance was terrific. The young man playing music in the bar was fantastic! Recommend sitting in the bar before/after dinner for a drink!
Sadly, I would definitely not recommend dinner at Gaylord’s. The property is mostly great, service is ok, food is terrible. My wife and I were very disappointed with all the good reviews we had seen. The menu seems to be very old (no creativity) and it shows in the food.
The property is gorgeous, lots to look at. However, the restaurant itself could use a little upkeep, just minor things such as falling led light strips (half burned out), cracked plates, etc add up.
The service was mostly good. However, our waiter did spend 15 minutes talking to one table and never came and asked us how our dinner was (even after we had bad experiences with apps). The manager did come around and ask how everything was at the end of the night which was good.
On to the food....which was pretty bad. Honestly the only great thing we’re the warm rolls. First we ordered crab cakes, which I’m almost certain had been frozen. When I stated this to both our server and the manager neither of her denied it, in fact the manager even stated she didn’t know if they were. They were extremely mushy and didn’t even taste like crab. It tasted as though they were frozen and reheated in the microwave, just disgusting. So our waiter suggested swapping it for the mixed green salad. I’m lactose intolerant so he said he would have them put the cheese on the side for my wife. It came with the cheese on top and was drenched in dressing, which it was a stronger vinaigrette, made it hard to eat. Lastly the “fresh” fish was pretty dry, another indicator that it might have been frozen or at least over cooked.
Overall we were really disappointed and would definitely recommend to stay away. This was our 5th dinner on the island and we enjoyed so many more places before this.
We went to Gaylord’s for dinner and were disappointed by the overall experience. After seeing plenty of positive reviews, we thought Gaylord’s would be one of our nicest dinners on the isnland but it was the most disappointing. Service was painfully slow. Our server was very nice and friendly, but seemed to disappear too often. The dining area wasn’t very crowded so It wasn’t due to business levels. More disappointing was the food. It was very bland at best. The Poke looked and tasted like ahi tossed with soy sauce. The fish entree was bland too, almost like the Kitchen forgot to season the fish altogether.
There was a luau the night we were there, so maybe all the focus was on the guests in attendance. Maybe we just got some bad luck, but I wouldn’t recommend to any of my friends to waste their money.
A-mazing food and great service! It was a wonderful birthday dinner on our last night in Kauai
Wonderful food! Drinks were very good. Great service. Best prime rib I have ever had!
Gorgeous site. Food was ok for some of our party and excellent for others. Veggie panini was great. Burger was good. Other food like tomato soup and salad was blah.
Schönes Ambiente, Essen und Service gut.
We went to this restaurant during our trip in Kauai, recommended by our guide book, 2 days after we took the train tour in the same place.
The restaurant is in the main house, very nicely early 19th century style, all the tables well arranged spend a patio.
The service was overall good, a little slow to start. The kids have enjoyed the Keiko menu and ourselves the shared starters and the fish and pasta shrimp. The entree size was a little too much for the pasta.
Good choice of wine.
The show that was held in the next building was noisy during the first part of the dinner despite the nice music of the restaurant.
We have been to Gaylord's three or four times in past years while on vacation (the most recent before last week was in 2016). The previous times, we could not say enough great things about all aspects. However, we were very disappointed when we ate there on August 29th.
It is obvious the chef has been changed, and menu has changed as well. Some of the wonderful items have been removed (the home-smoked salmon was the best we ever had - gone now). The cioppino (seafood) was passable, but not up to the standards we remember so fondly. For the price, there was insufficient sea food, and the shrimp tasted like they had been pre-cooked. The seared ahi was a joke. it came completely cold - it had obviously sat for a quite a while after it was seared, and it was almost tasteless. My wife couldn't finish it despite being quite hungry.
We have gone from highly recommending Gaylord's to friends and others to not recommending it at all.
We were there to celebrate our anniversary. I noted this on our reservation as well. The hostess did acknowledge that we were there to celebrate our anniversary but this message was not passed along to our server. Kinda disappointing.
Everyone was very nice but there just wasn’t anything exceptional about the experience. There was a decent variety of foods offered but nothing we couldn’t resist going back for seconds. Nothing memorable. There wasn’t anything terrible but then again nothing exceptional either.
We visited the little gallery on site and felt that we would have enjoyed a purchase of an item there and got something worth the money spent on food. Not really worth the price. The ale-carte items weren’t available and drink selection was limited. Needlessly to say we were disappointed.
A big disappointment! I wouldn't be surprised if someone got ill as temperatures of food were melting due to the heat. I mentioned it to staff and they shrugged it off and laughed. Desserts , cheeses and other items were melted.Salad dressing was borderline warm. Service was fair although no offering items on m
menu that were available to order if buffet was too much. If it weren't for the setting of the restaurant and the nice touch of live music it wouldn't be worth a rating.
Should be 4 stars in each catagory but an over indulged child strikes again!
First off, no one loves young children more than we do. And, there were several other tables around us that had young children behaving wonderfully.
But there was one young boy who was chased around by his mother with him screaming and doing somersaults on the wet grass inner court where adults were eating. This went on for a good ten to fifteen minutes and was so inappropriate.
The manager of the restaurant watched all of this going on and should have asked the mother to take her child out to the grassy area out back. My husband suggested this to the mother as we were bothered that such behavior was allowed.
Our dinners and service were good. We had the mong chung fish and the sea scallops.
Just couldn't get beyond the screaming kid running around.....
Setting was charming, food was very good. Server was very nice. Pace of service was very slow. Wine list was good and pricing was very reasonable.
Food was excellent and reasonably priced. We will come back. Setting is great. It feels good.
Great service. Delicious food. The portions were generous. It's worth a visit.
Gaylords is an amazing spot with a piano bar/lounge as well as an amazingly romantic outdoor patio.
Feel like back in the 1800s and indulge in the great craft cocktails, fun wine list and amazing food creations.
Service is 5 stars!!
This was hands down the best dining experience I have ever endeavored in my 50 years here on planet earth. Truly an amazing and exceptional location and chef at Gaylord’s. Bravo!
Came here approximately 5 years ago & it was great. Just went back & I just want to say I would never go back again considering all the other amazing options you have in Kauai. Better scenery, atmosphere, but most of all supherb service in almost every other place we went to. Here, we had a waiter who was faking his way through providing us service. The kind who says all the right things but doesn’t really mean it? Felt like he doesn’t really care & was borderline condescending. Didn’t feel comfortable at all & regretted spending so much money on dinner. The fish was dry and tasteless. Overall, the service will not make you feel welcome so don’t waste your time or money here. You have so many other amazing choices. Go elsewhere. If you must, just come here for a drink or coffee. Food & service not worth it.
Service was terrible, food was just okay. Beautiful setting.
Beautiful setting and wonderful ambiance. Would definitely come back again. This is a great restaurant for any special occasion.
Service was amazing and the food was wonderful! A great find for a special dinner!
Best place to eat in Kauai
The garden setting and delicious food make for an enjoyable dining experience. We also love the Sunday brunches with live music here. A favorite place for gatherring with friends.
We starred with the artichoke crab dip and it was delicious, had the spring salad which was light and fresh and then had the fresh catch which was Ono which was prepared to perfection with risotto and asparagus. The rolls are so delicious also! We would highly recommend this restaurant! We are coming back for sure! Yummy!!
Excellent restaurant, food, beautiful grounds and very fair prices. Would highly recommend, a best meal in Kauai.
It was very nice. The food was delicious. The children that we were seated by on both sides of us were quiet distracting. Our server was attentive, but not overly intrusive.
Fantastic evening with the wife at Gaylord’s for our anniversary! Great ambiance, Great food and A GREAT Mai Tai!
Went for Sunday Brunch and it did not disappoint. The food was great.
Our favorite on the Island. Classy without being stuffy. Historic without being boring. GREAT food. We stay for seven days and eat at Gaylords three times.
Beautiful setting .... food very good....I will be returning
