waiter was great, food was great, restaurant was great. They served us 3 wrong meals out of 6 courses, but was soon rectified....
Service was great, endive salad didn’t seem fresh but everything else was delicious
Great service and delicious food!
My husband and I celebrated his 45th birthday here and we could not have been happier! The food was delicious and the service was impeccable! We will defiantly be back and will recommend it to our friends! Thank you!
Visited the CIA when wine tasting in Napa. We had a great lunch and the staff were wonderful and very professional. Highly recommend when visiting wine country!
We picked Gatehouse based on a recommendation. The food and service were amazing. The servers were very engaging and knowledgable about the food and wine. The atmosphere was quiet and casual. The whole evening was amazing. This is definitely on my list of restaurants to visit again!
The food, the ambiance and the waitstaff were equally outstanding. What an excellent way for us to celebrate our daughter's 40th birthday right after a spa treatment in Calistoga and wine tasting on the way to the dinner. Both my wife and daughter said that the Meyer Lemon Cheesecake was the best desert they had ever eaten.
When we visit Calistoga we look forward to spending an evening at the Gatehouse! It is definitely our favorite place in that area. This time we took friends and they were just as impressed!! The food is fabulous, the service is unparalleled and the restaurant has such a cozy feel to it! It's also fun to talk to the students... they are so friendly and we usually learn a little bit about them, which is fun and interesting.
The new Gatehouse is very different from the old restaurant. It is much smaller & the kitchen is now hidden. It is quiet and sleepy cottage style instead of the old flaming pans and hustle bustle. Still an excellent value for the money, but less of the modern Napa feel.
What a lovely experience. Kudos to Chef Sarah and Professor. Special thanks to Rachel and David. We will be back soon.
Fantastic meal. Absolutely loved it!
It was our Anniversary and wanted something nice. Gatehouse was the perfect spot. My wife loved every part of our meal. She especially loved the paring of the wine with each course of the meal. We will definitely go back.
The Greystone Gate House with it's high ceilings, massive stone fireplace and original stained glass windows was perfect in every way. The old world charm contrasted nicely with the gleaming new stainless kitchen which can be viewed from the intimate dining room. The acoustics were perfect, we could hear our table mates but not the next table. Every choice of our 4 course meal was so carefully prepared and presented, it seemed like edible art. Chef Sarah put her own European spin on every dish and Professor Sean Fry presented wine pairings from Napa Valley to France, each one perfect with it's plate. You will not be disappointed when you choose the Gatehouse Restaurant at Greystone for your next lunch with friends or night out with someone special.
Wonderful meal and fabulous service! Will definitely go back! Very personable front house staff and the chefs put out an amazing meal. Each course was unique and delicious. So glad we went.
If you visit the Napa valley, I would highly recommend dining at Graystone. The food and service are outstanding.
Skip Copia and come here instead! Formerly the Conservatory restaurant, staffed by students, this is GREAT value in a pricey area. Small, cozy, it's located in the small building to the left of the main CIA bldg., with its own little parking lot just beyond, right when you enter thru the main gates. Food was excellent, service is very good in the traditional manner. We greatly enjoyed our meal and felt it was almost as good as our earlier lunch at Auberge - and you can't ask for more than that! Highly recommended.
lovely setting, charming ambiance, great food, good service, delightful dining spot
I’ve always wanted to go here so went for my birthday. Everything was delicious and it was a great experience to watch the students perform what they have learned.
The staff was polite and courteous, the ambiance was warm and intimate, and the food was unbelievable. I would certainly visit again and recommend to anyone looking for a truly unique dining experience they will never forget.
I understand that this is a culinary school and not a real restaurant but, still, they can do a better job. The food was largely undercooked and the service was slow, especially on our friends' table where they had to wait for an extremely long time to receive their entrees.
The selections were good and were creative but that was undone by the actual quality of the served food.
Great food, lovely environment, great service
We are aware that with students preparing and serving, outcomes are sometimes questionable, however, our dinner on Friday was much better than many of the top San Francisco restaurants, including a recent meal at Gary Danko. Both food and service were spot-on. We drove up from the city, and it was definitely worth the drive - we'll come again!
Awesome lunch experience
Food was so delicious
The highlight of my trip
Excellent food, excellent price!!! Great service!! Will definitely be back!!
Of all the places to eat in the Napa Valley this may be the best kept secret. The food is fantastic and the service matches the food. Any where else you would pay three times as much! Each time we visit Napa we make sure to eat here one night!
We had a very nice experience but keep in mind that it is student run so be forgiving.
This restaurant was recommended by 2 different people and I can see why! What a great experience with the students. The food was great, the service was great. 5 Stars!
If you haven't - you must! The Gatehouse restaurant is truly a Napa Valley treasure. Perfect ambiance, impeccably service charming weight staff and delightfully romantic. Oh, and the food was simply scrumptious!
Our second time at the Gatehouse. Their format is 3- and 4-course pre fixe dinners, with 3 or 4 choices for each course. I had Muscovy Duck Breast Pastrami, Creamy Hon Shimeji Sourp, Seared Fix Dot Flat Iron steak, and Cherry Chocolate Bread Pudding. My wife had Shaved Endive and Apple Salad, the Shimeji Soup, Pancetta Wrapped Mount Lassen Trout, and the Bread Pudding. In addition my wife had the wine pairing with her 4 courses. Every item was delicious and the presentation was suburb. The portions are not large, but the food is rich and flavorful enough that we were satisfied. The wait staff are young students at the Culinary Institute of America, which runs the restaurant. They are very attentive. The only slip up (which I found amusing) was the charge for 21 coffees, for which they were appropriately apologetic once I pointed it out. I definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Napa Valley.
Wonderful service, atmosphere and food.
Highly recommended. Pricey but recommended.
Enjoyed each course. Enjoyed the wait staff! enjoyed the wine pairings! Had a wonderful evening. Reccommend this experience highly!
Everyone who works there is learning their craft. You can see the rough edges and it is very fun. Food was great! Only issue was that they rushed through the meal. Three courses. The next course came within 3-4 minutes of the one before. Slow it down. Let me breath, drink the wine and talk to my date. Other than that a good time was had by all! Second t8me here and will be back.
We were celebrating a retirement and it was perfect. There were foodies in the group with questions and they were all answered well. Diners in our group with special requests were honored and carried out over and above. Everyone raved about the food. I was not thrilled with the doneness of the squab but ate it as it was delicious. It tasted good but the texture was kind of like raw liver. Not pleasant to me. The wait staff explained when I ordered the meat would be medium rare, which I like on most things. This seemed a little too underdone and I suggested that while I understood the rationale for the rare-ish preparation, I didn't find the texture pleasant. Everything else over the top incredible. We even googled the Brazilian Cheese Bread and found recipes to prepare at home. And I'm still going to try the squash flan in my kitchen.
Great food with optional wine pairing. Cozy romantic atmosphere the Waite staff was very attentive, however as students they are still learning. Prices are fixed with the menu and a 17% gratuity is added with no other tipping options. If you arrive before 6pm you can visit the campus store which has many cooking tools and chef items.
Our waiter was fantastic and the food was amazing!
I enjoyed going to somewhere not really a restaurant per se but a unique experience and to see the training in action.
Great food, service and overall experience. The waitstaff was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu options.
Being waited on and cooked for by students makes the whole experience extra-special. We are repeat customers because there is a great vibe, we know everyone cares about what they are doing, and even when there is an awkward moment, it is part of the fun.
Lunch with special friends
Had a lovely anniversary dinner. Didn’t care to try any of the second courses, but everything we did try was excellent, especially the quinoa appetizer and the trout entree. The servers were friendly and attentive, as always.
