I love that these are students cooking and serving the food. The portions are small, but that’s perfect with multiple courses. We had the sommelier pairing. I love that they don’t allow tipping but add a 20% charge that goes to scholarships!

This is the last class for those graduating from CIA. I expect them to know to set a table, grill steak to medium rare, and make a citrus desert that is not sour.

Later we tasted a debut of their Mexican menu. The flavors were vivid as were the presentation. Everything was on point. Our best most delicious experience yet at the Gatehouse.

the menu listed items that had been replaced and were not being served (listed was arctic chard, they were serving trout instead...granted, they warned us so we decided for something else.) Plus,,, there were long delays between courses and it was clear that one of us got the dish that had to wait till the others were prepared... food was only ok. Pairing was interesting. Students were eager to please and that was very nice. We felt that instruction emphasized politeness at the expense of readiness of food and flavor. Overall.... not a bad experience but not an excellent one either. This was our third time at the Gatehouse; the first one, which was before the pandemic, was the best. We feel that the quality of food and the 'happiness' of the students has decreased between the first and last experience (the second was not as good as the first one either.) Deserts have never been the strength of the Gatehouse--at least the times we have visited.

Very satisfying 4 coarse meal served in a lovely restaurant over a 3 hour period. Excellent wine selections. My only disappointment was the main course, a pork asada which was bland

This is a wonderful one-of-a-kind experience in the Napa area. It is a beautiful building with a warm interior, friendly staff willing to go beyond the call and the food was the best we enjoyed on our four day trip.
