If you are in the mood for escargot and steak frites there is not a better place in SF!
Also, it’s easily accessible for wheelchairs on first floor.
Gaspar is one of my regular restaurants because the food is great, as is the service. And it is a very comfortable brasserie.
Excellent service, yes, but the food is out of this world delicious. The short rib entree is probably the best I've ever had, anywhere.
Food and service are both exemplary. We had a comfortable table downstairs and were able to have a long conversation. One of my go-to places in SF.
Sooo good, just had lunch unfortunately we forgot to take our phones for pictures!! The special 6 oysters paired with champagne is the bomb. I have never had raw oysters before. Only BBQ have I eaten but these were so good and the paired champagne was perfect.
I had the chicken with Madeira sauce very good, my husband had the grilled octopus, and baby roasted potatoes, I don’t care for grilled octopus but I did try the potatoes very good. Then husband had the steak with fries oh my goodness very good entree as well. Dessert we had the hot chocolate cake with chocolate gelato would’ve preferred vanilla gelato but so good with the wine. Lunch was more than we normally pay but only in the city for 2 day and night so we splurged!! $ 189.00. Plus tip over $200.00.
The food was AMAZING!! Drinks were great! Service was perfect! The place itself is beautiful. We sat upstairs and it was really peaceful. We had an awesome time!
Everyone loved what they ordered. 2 diners were especially taken with the steak frites - and loved the frites. I had the steak tartar that was prepared how it is done in Europe, with the raw egg - delicious. And my other dining companions loved the salade Nicoise. All portions were very generous. The food was fresh and prepared with care. We will do this again.
As always the food is superb and the staff attentive. One of my favorite spots.
Thank you so much!!
Classic French bistro classics in a cozy setting with excellent unobtrusive service. One of our favorite restaurants.
Great experience- will definitely return!
Great place in the middle of the City. Appropriate for any occasion or any time it is open. It is now one of my favorites.
Love this place for lunch or dinner. Was very quiet at dinner time. Food is solid and affordable for French cuisine. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. Duck confit was great, and the country pate plate was a great shared starter. Would definitely recommend.
Surprisingly quiet for a Friday night. Just couple of tables occupied which suited us perfectly for a relaxing quiet evening. Front of house lady not at all welcoming and clearly would rather have been somewhere else (fine with me). Server attentive yet discrete. Food faultless. Really loved it. Cosmo way too sweet but other than that had a great experience but a little pricey
Everything was great as usual. We probably came too early for Friday night jazz, food and service was was excellent.
Food was amazing. Overall service could have been improved. Not the server, the restaurant as a whole. We spent $300 on a 4 person lunch, but were rushed consistently throughout due to a party that was coming soon. For context, our lunch reservation was at 1pm, and we were finished in time for a 2pm business meeting happening nearby.
They couldn't even accommodate our request for an itemized receipt for expense report purposes because they were "closed".
Gaspar Brasserie is my favorite SF restaurant after our fabulous meal. The service was impeccable The food was delicious accompanied by a lovely presentation
There s an upstairs dining room where we ate with a nice view of Sutter St. downstairs is a bar and a few tables
Can’t wait to get back to this gem
The steak frites (a french bistro staple) not available per the menu at $30 ("sorry!") but for an extra $6 you can pay extra to get a sirloin (not exactly a premium cut)? Bait and switch - I felt ripped off and will not be back.
My coworker & I absolutely loved the duck confit -- perfectly roasted and great lentils underneath. Also enjoyed the French 75 cocktail and spicy pumpkin soup. Will come back again!
Everything is great. Always nice to take my clients and colleagues there. I do have a request: please bring back the 'sides' on the menu. It's good to have an abundance of vegetables to accompany the main meal.
Great for a lunch meeting. They are quick, courteous and have great food.
Appetizers were alright, but the main courses were delicious, especially the braised short ribs. There is a decent selection of spirits, particularly french brandies, but no list - you have to go up to the bar and talk to the bartender.
Creative delicious cuisine in an authentic French atmosphere. Creative use of the local ingredients. Fabulous dessert.
The hostess was rude when our confirmed Open Table reservation didn’t appear on their system. She eventually gestured to a table squeezed along with our such tables, and left it to us to get seated. This is not the typical way of seating people in tight settings. Usually the table is pulled out to seat the guests. Plus we were seated in a cold and drafty space near the front door. The food was good, the waitress was nice, but the whole celebratory experience was diminished by the initial rudeness.
Great food. Noise level can be high at peak times.
Classic menu in a centrally located, charming, cozy, elegant setting. Excellent attentive but discreet staff. Perfect for a special meal with family, friends or colleagues.
Gaspar Brasserie's restaurant week menu was extraordinarily disappointing. Not a great value for very little, so-so tasting food. Cocktails were bland.
Solid spot, no complaints at all. prefer chez maman when looking for french food though. Its just different
Nice. Good place for a business lunch.
A fresh take on french classics. Great steak tartar and braised beef short ribs
Great place for French food! The duck and steak tar tar was my favorite. Wait staff was also very nice.
Good food and service. Not much room and quite noisy.
This restaurant surpassed my expectations. We were there for New Years Eve 2018. The ambience was Paris like, slightly dark (in a good way), and full of touches of wood and a tin embossed ceiling. Our service was nice. The hostess was very pleasant and sophisticated. Our cocktails luscious, the appetizer of charred octopus with vegetables tender and bright. Our wine an excellent moderately priced Bordeaux was fruity and bold with a smooth mouth feel. A great match for the confit of duck and short ribs . Both entrees were of course French but interpreted with a California sense. Desert was a hazelnut chocolate gelato, dense and smooth interspersed with fresh berries. The wine Muscat de Beaumes de Venise, a lovely French desert wine had flavors of fresh fruit and sugar.
Everything the decor, service, and food and wine was lovely and perfect for a special evening.
We have eaten here several times and have always been quite happy. However after a major miscommunication we were not happy with the table choice and left. They had made an effort to contact us but only one not the many the waitress had stated. Was not pleased with the attitude of the first person who tried to seat us but was much more pleased by the second who followed up. WE did contact you to say we would be coming as you asked us to.
Walking into Gaspar Brasserie, I am reminded of a brasserie in Paris where I dined...except there are no dogs. The restaurant exudes such an air of authenticity, at least for me. Most importantly, their food was wonderful. I had the roasted chicken, which was tender and flavorful. And their pumpkin soup had just enough spices that it didn't overwhelm.
My friend had the steak frites, but he had to confirm with the waiter that the bordelaise sauce was made the traditional way, without flour or similar wheat products, as he was allergic to gluten. The waiter confirmed, and when the dish was served, there was salad instead of pomme frites on his plate. The waiter explained that, unfortunately, wheat based items where cooked in the same fryer, so they could not serve the fries. While disappointing, the attention to this detail was very appreciated.
Ooh la la! I am looking forward to visiting again to try a different French dish!
We come here every quarter.
Rude waitress. Maybe it’s french
The vinaigrette almost killed it was so strong and straight from the vinegar bottle on the citrus salad. The pâté tasted like it had been uncovered in a refrigerator far too long.
The French fries and octopus were fantastic
Overall, a wonderful French brasserie. Wish they had seared fois gras, but menu items were delicious.
Nice menu. Love the oyster and bubbles option and our server kindly split it between 2 of us. We split a croque madam and that was more than enough.
