Good Views. Good Service. Good Food (Scones).
Will come again.
The lamb is so juicy. Good quick service. Excellent for office lunch
I had the lamb shoulder, it was just so delicious and juicy!
Great flavors, excellent service provided under difficult circumstances.
I'll definitely be back!
We started with the dips and bread which was good, our mains of lamb shoulder and tagliatelle with salmon and zucchini were very average and tasteless. The wait staff were great and it’s a very nice outlook over the tweed.
Nice spot , average food.
inside or out, the view is divine.
the scallops and the sliders were delicious
the wine was very reasonably priced
The restaurant with the best food and view in the Tweed valley area.
Food was excellent, good value, and lovely setting. My only criticism of service is that cutlery should be brought to table by staff; not asking the customer to take their own at the counter.
Great place for a quiet lunch with friends and family
Melas were both luke warm like they were precooked and sitting on the counter for too long before bringing out. When we asked the waitress to reheat them she seemed surprised and said they had just come out of the oven. They came back out and were ok, clearly cooked bit a bit dry and overall a lacklustre experience. For the owners of Mavis kitchen, we expected more outstanding tasting food for the price paid. The gallery is a captive audience paying quite a bit of money, we just expected more and we’re disappointed.
Amazing view from the deck or from inside.
The soup was wonderfully flavoursome & sourdough light & fluffy. A Good varied menu.
Small menu with one dish unavailable. Portions were very small and what was on the plate was not exceptional.
Staff were very friendly and the view just gorgeous. Wouldn’t go back for a meal but would like to sit with coffee and cake.
We were very lucky and had the best seat in the house. A good choice of healthy dishes.
Great view and friendly staff. Some warmth at night would be good.
Would it matter if the food was substandard with a view like this one?luckily it is good. I had four scallops with fab dressing and garnish. Creative menu and food.
We booked a table for 1pm, and had line up for 40 minutes to order at the counter. We were then then told to take a take a seat and that am someone would take our order.
That didn’t happen.
So we lined up again.. would have been nice to have been offered a bread roll or extra water.
Apart from one waitress, the staff were vague and rude and the while place was disorganised and noisy.
When my husband finally got to the head of the queue to place an order, he was abruptly told that we would have to wait another 30 minutes.
By the this time, our 5 year old daughter was starving, abd restless and so we left, disappointed and hungry and went to Maccas.
The views were nice, but they should have organised more staff, or not taken our booking. Ruined our Sunday.
To sum it up, excellent, we will be returning with family membewrs.
Location is amazing beautiful views.
We were there for lunch and had the fish which was very nice served with a salad. We felt that the sweets were a little hap hazard I had a Chocolate brownie that was served cold and without cream or ice cream. Coffee was great.
booked a table for 6 were sat right in the middle of thoroughfare even though there were many spare tables. Chicken salad, chicken obviously reheated poorly in a microwave. muscles were barely warmed through with a very bland tomato puree tossed through. The dukkha board and fish were good.
Overall disappointed for a venue with such a good aspect , to have only a small variety on the menu you would expect what they did have to be of good quality.
service was obviously inexperienced but ok.
Beautiful outlook, friendly service and reasonably priced good food.
A beautiful location and lovely food
Food mixed, and then we found the plastic shards in the cannelloni
The waiting in line to order was the Achilles heel of an otherwise lovely evening.
Maybe more floor staff.
Stunning venue, poorly organised and understaffed. The 'market' fish was absolutely flavourless, 'supermarket' fish.
A lovely spot to visit before or after a visit to the gallery and patrons are spoilt with a gorgeous view.
At this visit the food and wine was mixed. One meal - the vege Samosa was very nice, the other was a 'homemade' roasted vegetable ravioli that tasted suspiciously like one I could buy in a shop and no evidence of any roasted vegetables.
A glass of red wine (chianti) was served ice cold straight out of the fridge.
We decided not to risk dessert!
Unfortunately the amazing views is not matched by amazing food. This is the second time I have been to this cafe and it's just not good food. The beef ravioli we ordered tasted like the pasta you buy out of the Woolworths chill cabinet. The sauce did taste homemade but lacked any flavour. Parmesan cheese was scant. The trio of dips we got to share between the three of us came with two measly slices of bread, really? And they had sweet pickles and sweet chutney, both out of a jar it would seem. So disappointed in this place, won't ever go back or recommend it.
The food was very poor in quality. Croissant was burnt and fish just warm. For my birthday lunch I found it so very disappointing.
Beautiful view and setting. I would recommend trying it.
Great food, good service, excellent view. Good art gallery too.
Everything was great - venue, menu, staff and value for money. Service was a little slow at the beginning but was more than made up for by the friendly staff, and the timeliness of delivering our meals. :)
Food was really dry and I asked for bacon and avocado with my eggs, I got one piece of bacon and mashed avo with feta and other ingredients that I couldn’t eat. The good wasn’t hot.
The staff were friendly but need more training.
Standard needs lifting to quality of gallery. Menus for tables were shabby. Vegan samosa was in fact a filo filled with over cooked veg and potatoes and served with more potatoes. Canelloni was very stodgy. Whole experience Needs to be made as contemporary as the gallery and as splendid as the view
Asked to leave before our time had expired as new group had arrived!!!
Always a wonderful location and outlook, but the food was a little disappointing, tired and ordinary this time. As for the service, we found ourselves surprised and embarrassed to be left standing for far too long at the entrance upon arrival (we had a booking and had checked in) while 2 wait staff kept rushing past to wipe or clear tables (when there were plenty of clear ones already available and noone else waiting), and talking to the manager who also saw us there but failed to direct anyone to greet us and show us to our table! Above all, my mum (in her 90's) was kept standing, supporting herself with her walker all this time, until my husband went to the counter and asked the manager for someone to please seat us. Should NEVER be necessary! In the end staff were very solicitous, perhaps realising they had some ground to make up with us. Overall, I now feel disinclined to continue raving (as I used to) about eating at the cafe at the gallery. I only feel that I can praise its wonderful location, and hope that people have a good experience when they attend. Should also note that our booking confirmation from Open Table arrived 3 days later!?!
Where else can you enjoy fine dining overlooking cows in green pastures with the mountains in the distance. Excellent food, service and venue
Look it wasn’t good!
The toast wasn’t toasted, one meal was forgotten. My friend asked for butter and we had to ask again for it because it was forgotten.
Two Of our coffees had to be returned because they were not the coffees ordered.
Then they were remade using cheap coles brand soy milk my friends couldn’t drink Because they tasted weird. They usually use bon soy but they had run out.
Our coffees were only just warm not that great.
I suggested the gallery cafe For a change because it was good the last time I visited and the view is stunning.
However we had to go somewhere else to get a decent coffee!
I won’t be in a hurry to come again unless there is an improvement
Sorry guys bit disappointed ☹️
We went to & enjoyed "Poets Out Loud", but all of our meat was cold, the service was slow, they really needed more staff for the event.
The ordering system was chaotic. The same person taking orders was also cooking toasted sandwiches.
We lined up for approximately 20 minutes to place our order.
Once ordered the food came quickly and was hot.
Limited cafe menu which was very disappointing.
If there was ANY other option to eat elsewhere I would take it next time.
Such a shame really because the setting is so perfect and the gallery experience is always wonderful
It was a very busy day and there were insufficient staff There were long queues to oder food and the staff were overworked and did there best The food was not cheap and very ordinary It was disappointing for a cafe in such a beautiful setting
Very poor service. We were a group of 4. There was a time gap of 30mins between the first & last meal arriving at the table. I know it was a very busy day but this is poor management.
The view from our Table 3 was beautiful. Food was well prepared nicely presented and tasted good. Fresh juice of the day being celery apple carrot and ginger was delicious and refreshing.
