This may be a case of friends and family pumping up the Google reviews. This restaurant appears to be a tapas joint squatting in an abandoned Mexican restaurant. There's a cooker hood on the wall in the dining area. None of the many pendant lights were functioning, and instead the place was lit with two white flood lights and some strip lighting. There was a TV playing a film of a fireplace hanging precariously from the wall. The server didn't know what anything was on the menu, and had been clear to tell us she was too new to make any recommendations. Our appetizers arrived last (everyone wants a charcuterie board after a New York strip steak, right?). The tapas were fine, but clearly frozen croquettes and potatoes that had been deep fried. The one salad on the menu was criminally over dressed and salted. They had no bottles of sparkling water and instead had to pour us pints of club soda. When we asked why it seemed so, um, scrappy, the server told us the owner had recently changed concepts from it being a Mexican restaurant because of all of the competitive Mexican restaurants popping up nearby. I'm not surprised this was the one that lost the competition. After all of that, I must say that the people working there were very friendly and accommodating, and the place does have potential. Perhaps they just need a few more weeks of polish and they can make it into a nice spot to dine.
