Originally located on Esplanade Avenue, Gabrielle Restaurant re-opened its doors on Orleans Avenue in September 2017 after a twelve year Hurricane Katrina hiatus. This small family run business is co-owned by Chefs Mary and Greg Sonnier. Award winning Chef Greg serves his take on Cajun food with New Orleans flair. Gabrielle is one of the best restaurants in New Orleans, in my opinion. A casual atmosphere with five star service and food.
This little gem is in what appears to be a rougher neighborhood, but as soon as you walk in you forget all that. White tablecloths, fresh flowers, excellent food, good ambiance. Our server Nelson was terrific!! Too bad the virus is scaring folks away, they missed a good meal!

Very disappointed that on A Saturday for lunch there was no veal.
Someone surely could have gone to Dorignacs or Zuppardos who has good meat department and purchased veal that morning.
Especially with limited menu of 6 food selections.
Have the BBQ shrimp pie. It's delicious! If you are lucky Victor will be your waiter. He is a warm, knowledgeable host leading you through the meal.
Food was awesome as well as the service. The chef was very nice guy that took time to tell us about the city. Definitely recommend.
Gabrielle's is a true NOLA gem. The food and cocktail service is outstanding!
Catherine, our server was excellent. Apps took a long time to get out but it was valentine's day so they were swamped. She comped a round of drinks for our trouble.

We were very excited to try Gabrielle as we had heard so many great things about the restaurant. We went for Valentine’s Day, and they had a pre-set menu. It was honestly one of the worst fine dining experiences we’ve ever had. All of the dishes we ordered from appetizers to desserts all ranged from okay to terrible. Gumbo was okay, crawfish enchiladas and the duck main dish were both cold and bleh, lamb was inedibly raw when it should have been cook med/med rare. Service from our main waitress was not good- she did not ask once how our food was, and was not friendly or even mildly pleasant. The other servers and workers were nice, just not our waitress. Also not the most romantic of settings. We knew another group who came in that night and they had the same poor experience, as did the table sitting next to us. Maybe it was an off night?? But still, there’s no excuse for how bad everything was. Drinks were good.. I’ll give them that. But other than that, it was terrible. Really disappointed as we were really looking forward to trying it.
We are so happy to have Gabrielle's nearby again to Bayou St John. They are a wonderful Restaurant family. The inspired Cajun cuisine is consistently delicious and now Friday lunch too!!!

Very beautiful and cozy restaurant, our server was amazing! The tratier fish special was awesome.
Lunch specials were all excellent if not uniform in size. Crawfish servings were generous but oyster dis was small.

Not worth the price or neighborhood. Atmosphere was odd, stained chairs and 80s hits. Service adequate, food good but not spectacular. At this price point, they really need to step it up if they want folks to overlook the sketch neighborhood. Not terrible by any means but ultimately very disappointing for the price, wish we'd chosen somewhere else to take friends from out of town.
My first time there, I was impressed by the ambiance, quality of service and excellent food. A great place to go if you want to enjoy a conversation with your dinner guests. Even though menu choices are limited, there is something for everyone. Highly recommend you give it a try!

Love Gabrielle! To start, my husband enjoyed the BBQ Shrimp Pie appetizer, as usual. Our 15yo loved the dark roux-based Crawfish Bisque special, and got just a taste of my choice, an amazing Crawfish Enchilada appetizer special, which I reluctantly shared with those who begged. Entrees: Steak Vert (one used ALL the sauce, the other declined), Veal for my husband (he loved it, but his heart still belongs to the Duck!), and a delicious beet salad for me (saving room for dessert). Dessert: Heavenly king cake ice cream with a side of WARM king cake that melted in your mouth, decadent lemon chess pie, and summery strawberry shortcake. Another fabulous meal at Gabrielle ... start to finish. And service was exceptional, friendly, professional, and timely. ❤️
We had such a lovely meal. Two or our six guest were visiting musicians and had to leave early. The restaurant had no trouble accommodating them and serving the other four of us at a leisurely pace. One of the guests remarked that the gumbo was the "most exquisite" she'd ever tasted.
Great food, great service, great experience all around.
Gabrielle remains one of my favorite dining experiences in New Orleans. The service and food are always, ALWAYS incredible.
We were warmly welcomed to a small, unpretentious room (except for the cloth tablecloths) which was almost empty. But the food was extremely salty, almost to the point of being inedible. Wife had the fish, which was heavily breaded - probably the source of much of the salt. I had the veal, which was probably 75% breading and very salty. I really liked the concept of the combination of the veal and cream-filled mozzarella. But the overwhelming saltiness kept me from enjoying it.
Best duck I’ve ever had and the homemade ice cream was amazing.
From the bbq shrimp and oysters Gabie apps to the famous duck entree, the crab cake with grilled fish on top, peppermint ice cream on brownie. All was first class. Will be back soon
If it wasn't for the gumbo, this would be a 2-star review. The gumbo, which was what brought us to Gabrielle, was wonderful. Everything else about the dinner, however, was disappointing. The wait staff was just plain odd. An example: How large is the gumbo portion? Answer: It comes in one size. Another, prompted by the menu: What beer do you have on tap? Answer: None. Another: Can you describe the shrimp salad to us? Answer: It's just shrimp on a salad. The beet salad was described as beets cooked sous vide. They tasted like they had come from a can. I ordered the trout, the fish special of the evening. It was $37 for an ordinary fish on a bed of acidic-tasting tomato something. Oh, we ordered sazaracs to begin the meal. They were served in small tumblers too large for the skimpy pour. The place was as brightly lit as a convenience store.
Service was impeccable. Food is as good as any in the city. Nice atmosphere.
The pork chop entree was excellent! Crab cake was also excellent. We prefer SC she crab soup , but we are from SC. Service is impecable!
I would recommend Gabrielle to all my friends! The food and service at Gabrielle are both excellent and it is one of our absolute favorite restaurants in New Orleans. Go, eat everything, then go back for more!
An outstanding meal in every way possible!! From the pre dinner cocktails to the fabulous desserts everything was exceptional. The service was fabulous, the food divine, and the ambiance friendly and low key. As we left the restaurant we were already planning to go back ASAP!!

Only been a couple times a while back. Took my daughter here before a comedy show. The server Victor is the most memorable part of the experience. Great conversationalist And just the right amount of brief visits to the table. From somebody in the customer service business I’d be proud to hire him.

It was like a gathering of friends.
Perhaps the regular menu is better but the New Years Eve PreFix menu left much to be desired. The raw oysters with caviar and champagne shooter were highlight. The second course was very basic and small.
The main courses were the most disappointing. The lamb portion was good, although quite small. The prime rib was more of a steak. Overall, way overpriced for $75 a head.
I'm sad this was my first experience there but probably won't go back to see if it gets betters.

Food was decent but not worth the prices. $20 appetizer, $8 salad that wasn't included with the entrée. Portion size was OK. Service very good. Good happy hour specials.
