Friends Sushi On State
FIRST HAVING SUSHI & IT WAS SO GOOD DEFINTELY WILL BE BACK. ME & MY LADY!
Great but server kept looking at my boyfriend when I was paying for dinner. She didn't think to look at me that much. Otherwise food was great!
Surprised it was open New Year’s Day. Place was empty and service was a bit slow which we found surprising. Edamame ??? took like 20 minutes to come out which was surprising as a mainstay appetizer. Loved the Shisito peppers as well. Several family members are gluten free and they seemed well informed with good options so that was a plus. Good variety of Sushi.
Lady Diana was great, so was Tokyo Rising. Summer roll was somewhat bland for a spicy roll.
Amazing! Sushi was bomb. Great service
This place is good to go to Mondays and Wednesdays for happy hour. You get $2 off maki rolls and appetizers. It's a good excuse to try new rolls! Our server listened to all of our special requests.
Decent food reasonable but some odd smells in back and restroom
The restaurant looks like what they imagine the future looks like in and 80's tv show. We had the special fried soft shell crab in Japanese curry, this was fresh and delicious, I highly recommend. For the main meals we shared chicken katsu with Japanese curry and two rolls: soul of fire roll and the line of beauty roll. We liked the line of beauty roll more but the soul of fire was decent. These are not anything special, but does the trick. The prices were also very reasonable.
Friends has the best sushi in Chicago. It’s such a hidden gem. Every time my parents come to town we have to hit up their favorite restaurants, the art museum and friends
Went here to celebrate my girlfriends birthday a week ago. Great service and sushi rolls. They even gave us a dessert on the house for it being my girlfriends birthday!
great menu and fresh sushi, friendly staff, very comfortable atmosphere and really cool almost sci-fi aesthetic
Thank you very much for a wonderful reviews! We look forward to welcome you back soon.
Great sushi and lots of vegetarian options. We try to go here every time we come to Chicago.
Thank you very much for a wonderful review. We look forward to welcome you back soon :)
Very nice Sushi bar/restaurant. Very fresh and high quality fish. Nice choice of drinks.
We came to celebrate a friend’s birthday with a party of 8. We honestly couldn’t have picked a better place. The staff was so incredible and welcoming. Food was beyond delicious. We had great drinks, beers, and sake bombs. They helped us top the night off with sake and a birthday dessert. Can’t thank this amazing staff enough for giving us such a great experience! We all can’t wait to come back.
Thank you very much for rating and wonderful comments :) We would love to welcome you back again soon.
I was not happy with the service. My wine was wrong and the server confused my order but still charged us for it,plus an up charge.
Food was great! Sushi was fresh and delicious with an excellent presentation . A fun, idiosyncratic atmosphere. Very much enjoyed dinner here. Great, friendly service. We will be back!
Awesome food and very inexpensive
Birthday - it was wonderful. Friendly service and awesome food.
This was great food was yummy and the almost tapas style like portions. service was exceptional!
Stumbled upon this place while walking downtown. I was very happy to find a sushi place relatively close to my home. Their selection is creative and fresh, along with traditional favorites. The decor is modern and the place looks like you could find it in Tokyo. The service was very friendly and attentive. Food comes out as fast as you want it. The prices are crazy inexpensive for Downtown anywhere.
I like this location better than the one on Rush street. It is very cozy and has cute white tables. Good for chatting.
Great experience! Not only was the food delicious, but the service was delightful. Also the music that was being played really set the mood of the whole evening. Would recommend to anyone that likes sushi and a good time!
Had a great dinner here tonight. The location looked really nice on the inside and the food was great. Don’t eat seafood so was impressed with the variety of vegetarian rolls available. The server was very attentive. The music was also very nice. Overall we had a great dinner here would definitely go back.
Used to love this place but this visit was a disappointment. Fish did not taste fresh and the place really looked dirty. The white furniture is no longer white which makes it seem like they just don’t care. Plenty of places for sushi in Chicago. Friends may no longer be on our list.
We actually went to the other Friends on accident, didn't realize there are two. It was still delicious!
Godzilla was very enjoyable
I’d been to rush street location. This was just as great. Personally felt like this location liked more updated inside. Still great sushi!
The sushi wasn't fresh, way too pricey. They drinks didn't taste good. We ordered several types because we couldn't find anything that tasted like what was described on the menu.
We ended up going to Shale Shack afterwards to actually get something tasty. Last time I go to Friend's. It's NOT authentic anymore, nor even a good value. There better AUTHENTIC sushi in Chicago.
I had the BEST sushi I have ever had in the Midwest. I’ve eaten at many sushi restaurants in Chicago, and the quality and taste of the fish here blew everywhere else out of the water. Friends instantly became my new favorite sushi restaurant.
Great food. Excellent service!! Many menu items are quite creative, including mashed potatoes, vermicelli noodles, lots of mayonnaise. But everything we tried was very delicious, just not what I would call traditional Sushi , definitely recommend!
Service was excellent. Food was delicious! Food presentation was a work of art!
Will definitely return!
The fish was very fresh, A++ Tuna. Close intimate seating seat but not an issue. Food was great!
