We have the restaurant another try after a bad experience last year. The mushroom soup was too salty, the pasta was tasteless and overcooked, the old they use on the grilled pork chop was rancid. Just aweful.
Went with some friends to Fox and Rose for a late dinner after driving up to Petoskey the weekend. Both the food and the service were excellent.
We sat at the bar and our server was excellent. Had the chicken wrap and arancini. All very good. We enjoy coming here.
This was our first visit to Fox & Rose. I thought it was good overall. Food was good and came fast. Our server was a bit inexperienced but did a great job.
Jane is a fantastic waitress. Very personable with impeccable service. The house salad dressing is delicious.
SERVICE WAS VERY POOR. WAITER SEEMED POORLY TRAINED; HAD TO COME BACK SEVERAL TIMES ON DRINK ORDERS AND STILL DIDN'T GET ORDERS RIGHT. ONE MEAL WAS NEVER EVEN ENTERED ON COMPUTER SO THAT PERSON'S MEAL WAS NOT MADE. MANAGER AND WAITER TRIED TO ACCOMODATE US AND WERE VERY PLEASANT, BUT THERE IS TOO MUCH RESTAURANT COMPETITION TO MAKE THESE BASIC MISTAKES. AMBIANCE WAS GREAT BUT WE NOTICED A GROUP OF SEVEN OR SO PEOPLE WHO CAME IN AND WAITED AT A HIGH TOP NEAR US, BUT WEREN'T EVEN ASKED IF THEY WANTED A DRINK OR AN APPETIZER FOR AT LEAST 20 MINUTES. WE REALLY WANT A RESTAURANT AT THIS LOCATION TO SUCCEED BUT SERVICE NEEDS DRASTIC IMPROVEMENT.
Very mediocre everything. It’s beautiful eating outside & we did. They were out of some things on the menu. We had to ask for silverware a couple times. The service was meh. Not going back.
Our waitress was trying, but the rest of the support staff was awful...our appetizers came out lukewarm and then a food runner delivered entrees before we’d finished apps...waitress admitted nobody brought out apps on time. We had to ask for water and bread, 1/3 entrees was good, the other 2 pretty bland and average, especially for the price. Took forever to order dessert, the bus boy sat the bucket of dirty dishes on the extra chair at our table to clear our plates (10 minutes after we’d finished). Highlights were the forest floor soup, the wine recommended by the server, and the server’s attitude and humor, but overall I can’t recommend this place.
Great friendly service and great atmosphere Would definitely return
The restaurant has potential but they need to have employees.
No one was working, so we sat there for about 20 mins without anyone even bringing us water. We weren’t the only ones who left the restaurant hungry. Zero service and we were disappointed.
Love the farm to table concept. My son in law beer snob was not happy with the selection so the owner gave him permission to go to his market two doors down and pick out what ever he liked! how's that for customer satisfaction?
this was not our first time at this restaurant. our meals were very good (there was 6 of us) except that there was basically no desserts available. only one choice plus some sorbet. on a saturday night? seemed strange. also, the service was terrible. my husbands drink was wrong and our server could have cared less.
offered to bring more limes, not get him the correct thing. service was slow even though the restaurant was only one third full. if we go again, i will ask for a different server. front of the house needs work.
Had to ask for a server! High season yet under staffed. Finally had excellent service from another staffer who cares for customers, not just a paycheck. Disappointed.
Service was good but they seemed understaffed and thereby slow. I was really disappointed with the prime rib special. Served cold and when we complained they took my portion and reheated the same ‘thin to begin with’ piece, over cooking in the process. They really could have cut a new piece and served it warm and cooked correctly for prime rib. Forest floor soup was really the only thing notable about our evening there. We don’t plan to return which is a shame since we stayed at the Bay Harbor Village and they are one of the featured restaurants.
Nice addition to Bay Harbor. We dined prior to a concert at the Great Lakes Center for the Arts and appreciated both the food and service. We will return.
We had a nice dinner in the patio, service was very good and we enjoyed our dinner. We had four different tapas plates—it made for a nice assortment and all were good. It wasn’t very busy, and the server did a great job paying attention to use without being intrusive. We would definitely eat there again.
Setting outside was beautiful. Wait staff professional but understaffed and overwhelmed. Took one hour to receive our first course...the first course of two for a table of 4. I won’t tell you how long it took for the table of 12 across from us or the table of 6 next to us. First round of drinks weren’t great...manager said let’s try this again...brought another round on the house.
I get it...it is summer and the 4ht of July weekend! Maybe the staff was caught off guard on Friday night, July 5th. There was a concert at the Performing Arts Center across the street and there were many people eating at Fox and Rose. . BUT shouldn't the management know that already? Bring in extra people for dinner service. The hostesses ( who appeared to be "winging it") did have my reservation along with many other reservations. I planned on 1 hour and 45 minutes to have a nice meal, relax with a drink and not have to rush out to the concert. It appeared to me that many younger people ( who may have only started working at Fox and Rose on this day) were wandering around not having a clue what to do or how to help the "busy situation." Our waitress, Jacqueline, was over loved with far to many tables. The staff hired to hep here didn't do much to help at all. I had mentioned that we needed to be out the door at 7:45 and she quickly told us about the "show special" and then I asked if we could order a drink. We did. The drinks came about 10 minutes later. We ordered our salads and dinners at that time to keep things moving along. We did get our food before others who had ordered before us. I guess because I said something we were given priority on getting the food out quickly.
The food was good, the food selection was fine, but there obviously was a back up in the kitchen.
I had to stand at the bar for about 10 minutes to get my check to pay the bill. I did hear a table of 4 say at 7:35 " We can't eat our entrees in this short time...we have been here for 2 hours waiting for our food."
They should have said something sooner.
I finally found our waitress and paid the bill, but it took about 10 minutes to process the check.
After being in the business for years, I say if you have a full book of reservations, stop taking additional reservations, depending on what the staff can handle.
Bay Harbor and the surrounding areas are all tourist towns and summer reso
While the hostess and shift manager appeared to be trying, it’s apparent training is necessary. The food was just average. The atmosphere and location are lovely. I recommend a drink and the Charcuterie board - your best bet.
We had a reservation for 6:15pm. When we showed up they wanted to put us at a high top, so we opted to sit at the bar to see the boats coming in and out. Unfortunately, the bartender was overwhelmed. He only helped those that sat in the middle of the bar directly in front of him. We waited for 15min. And watched as others that came in after us ordered drinks and dinner while we hadn’t been served water. I was ready to leave when the manager offered us a drink on the house. We stayed but things didn’t get better. If you plan to visit....pack your patience!
Something was very wrong. Overbooked and/or understaffed or unqualified personnel in the kitchen? 2 1/2 hrs to be served, sending undercooked white fish back twice and never got it right. Wine was listed on wine list but unavailable. Mgt was very concerned and very apologetic. Price was reduced and a prepaid card was issued. We’ll give them one more chance to get it right.
Great shareable small plates, Forest floor soup and salads, lovely indoor and outdoor spaces, nice wines by the glass and don’t miss Julie’s rum cake- best dessert wet!
Our first visit here. Food was average, service was poor. The menu was also very limited. We indicated it was our anniversary on the reservation and I would have expected an experienced waiter/waitress. We had to grab 2 other people to find our waitress (1 was the owner he said), yet no special attention was given.
Great location along the marina with outdoor seating, lively bar and yummy food!
Great live music and a wonderful deck. Food was OK but the service was just so-so..
We had a wonderful server from England named Jane. The manager went out of his way to bring us our drinks as they had 2 staff call off. The spicy tuna roll was excellent and the burger Devine!!
Whitefish was very tasty and the service was excellent.
Great food and service!
Cassidy was a Terrific server and each dish was lovely! There have been several different restaurants in this disco in the eleven years we’ve lived here, but Fox and Rose is the best!
Service was excellent but menu choices were limited. The soup was excellent, drinks /wine a little small compared to others in the area.
This restaurant is not well situated as it is near the water but the water cannot be seen.
The food is mediocre and expensive. The server was attentive but there were few people in the place. We eat in restaurants three to five times per week but we will not return to this one.
Food took an hour to be served. One dish was cold and had to be sent back. Would not recommend.
Very friendly, limited entres, good food, won’t break the bank, great views, and wonderful service.
Slow service and disorganized. Had to wait a long time before we talked to a server even though it wasn’t busy. No one seemed to know who should be our server. Once we saw a server she was knowledgeable and cordial. Food was good.
Loved everything about our dinner tonight! The tuna poke was fab and the muscles....amazing! Seafood pasta was a winner with all 3 orders at our table. Salmon was a winner as well. My only complaint is we didn’t save enough room for dessert. Great reason to go back. Our waitress, Jane, was super funny and we’ll definitely request her next time. Great job with drink menu, too!
Excellent service and fantastic food. Drink menu is awesome and the location by the water is spectacular!
Can't wait to go there again next time we are up north!
No one was there to greet us and we waited until finally the bartender came over. There was also no one to say thank you for coming. Waitress was good and food was good but expensive and we waited a long time for our food and the restaurant was not busy at all at that time. We will not return.
Fair food. Needs a better selection of entrees and
This place is a total gem. Great fresh food, amazing views, good drinks, and awesome service. I would totally recommend this spot again!
The service was not great. The waitress did not seem knowledgeable about the drink menu. She was not understanding my son’s question about the salad. The wording on the menu was very confusing as it related to the cost with an entree. He wanted to add salmon and at first she would not allow it even though the menu indicated you could. She finally allowed it. The appetizers were good and nicely presented. The main course took quite awhile.
