About this restaurant

  • Neighborhood gem
  • Charming

“Among my chef friends and the epicurean elites, aka “foodies”, the conversation around great Chinese food was always centered around authenticity, with classic American Chinese takeout dishes not considered authentic. But, having grown up in the Chinese American restaurant my parents have worked at for the past 25 years, I’ve always seen it as a by-product of enormous creativity and ingenuity of Chinese Immigrants. They adapted to what was available to them in the early 20th century and created some of the most iconic dishes in the history of this country,

Had a double date here with my friends. Their food portions are big so we ordered a bunch of different items and were content with the size and quality. We got the beef and broccoli, lo mein with chicken, honey walnut shrimp, chicken wings, and green beans. The only downside, we would love for them to join with their partner next door for cocktails but all in all, it was a great experience.

Fun and the ginger lemonade was amazing. The orange chicken needed orange zest it wasn’t a strong orange flavor and the Kung Pao chicken was average, it lacked seasoning or flavors. So a bit disappointing in the food category

The food was amazing but the service was terrible. It’s a shame because it was my second time here and I was looking forward to the food, which is amazing. I will say we got seated earlier than our reservation, which was amazing. Everything went downhill from there. Our server didn’t check in on us, the people next to us, which got seated thirty minutes after us, got their food much more before us. When they did bring out our food, it was only one entree. Keep in mind we ordered plain white rice, three more entrees and noodles. The server offered us refills of our drinks when we asked for the check. We were there for an hour and a half. We had to stand up to get a bag for our to go containers, which our server didn’t even bring herself, someone else did. I don’t know… the food is great and the place is nice but to me, service is what makes me go back to a place. I’m not one to leave a bad review but it was really disappointing that a table of two were forgotten in the corner while other tables were being given their meals and checked in on.

The service was good, the food was good (we got the honey walnut shrimp and shiitake mushrooms) They ran out of the pork and shrimp dumplings, which is what we wanted to try the most, so we decided to to try the “Dan Dan Noodles” - which was just alright, we ended up sending it back 😅

We finally made it to Fortunate Son in North Park and wow — what a vibe! The food was incredible, packed with bold flavors and made fresh. Every dish we ordered hit the spot. The ambience is super cool, retro Chinatown-meets-modern San Diego, and the service was on point the entire night. The best surprise? The prices! For the quality of food, drinks, and overall experience, it was way more affordable than we expected. Definitely a new favorite spot — already looking forward to our next visit!

We had ordered Togo from here. Food was great. Some of the best orange chicken I’ve ever had. We were underwhelmed last night. The green beans were the star of the show. Incredible. Fried rice was good. But the orange chicken was… pretty bad dude. Like… felt like we were just eating fried… fried bread? It was weird. The service was weird. Servers were super nice but kind of not around. Like a magic trick. They were all there and then gone for 15 - 20 min a time. I will however give a shout out to this girl in the kitchen. She looked like she was running the Togo orders. This girl was an animal dude. Like focused. Passionate. Ran out food out. THESE are the type of people you dream about having in your restaurant in terms of employees. Literal rockstar. We were impressed just watching her. Also the hostess was SO nice and funny. Both of these gals deserve a raise. The place is pretty. Tasteful and not overdone. Intimate. I wish the service and food equated to the ambiance.

This was our first time here & we came for a date night. Food was delicious, you got A LOT for the price. We got a bunch & tried different things, then brought takeout home for the rest of the family! 😜 would go here again!
