   Finally, everything clicked at Forge & Fire; the food special (pulled brisket tacos) was very good and the accompanying potatoes were hot and crispy. Most importantly, the service was great. All in all, a very satisfactory dining experience.

   Forge and Fire has had some growing pains since their recent opening. Last night we experienced a turnaround of remarkable proportion and scope, the finest meal and service since we moved to the Carnegie in early November. Also a serendipitous event, since we hosted our kids. The four of us were served three entrees - a filet, the lamb chops and two cioppino dinners - by our waitress, a new hire named Brittany. Here is what we experienced: 1. Service was superb. Brittany, a new hire, was friendly and knowledgable. Best of all, her responses to requests ware accomplished quickly, cheerfully and error free. 2. Every meal was judged to be excellent. In the cases of the filet and the lamp chops, the dishes were received exactly as ordered. The cioppino clearly showed the signs of someone who loves fish dishes, as witnessed by the rich taste of the tomato-based sauce and the delicacy of the seafood ingredients. We can only hope that the dish will become a staple of the restaurant, not just a occasional special. 3. In all, quality of the food and the exceptional service made for a delightful evening. These things do not happen by chance. They are generally a result of exceptional management: an effective employee training program and oversight determined to produce quality at all of the functions and staff involved in preparation and delivery of their products. 4. Finally, a special shoutout to Kamala, the restaurant’s jewel of a host, who manages the front end of the dining room with a rare combination of effectiveness and empathy. I discovered at the last minute that I had screwed up my reservation, and called her in a state of panic. Not to worry: Kamala effortlessly and efficiently made my (nonexistent) reservation real, saving me from serious embarrassment. A huge thank you, Kamala! Five stars is an appropriate rating for the Forge and Fire. Keep up the good work!

   The Coconut Shrimp special and the Tomato Basil soup were delicious! The service was excellent!

   SO-called ribeye steak or prime rib (not sure which?) was overcooked, tough to cut and eat, and tasteless and was badly in need of a sauce which was not available. Service was terrible, e.g., I ordered a baked potato and when I did clearly specified with butter and '"sour cream." the latter however, did not come with the entree and it took another 15 minutes to arrive. Our dining companion asked for ketchup and it NEVER arrived. Miy wife could not eat her meat because it was too tough for her but it took another 20 minutes for a plain burger to arrived which when it did, came with a roll and other accoutrements which we clearly stated was not wanted. The staff often does not listen to menu changes of any kind.

   Our server was polite but after waiting more than 45 minutes for our entrees, we left without dinner. Although the "Fall salad" was very tasty, there was no lettuce -only dandelion type greens. I asked the server why the butter lettuce used in the wraps or iceberg lettuce couldn't be used instead of the chick-weeds, she said she would tell her supervisor who never came to our table to discuss the matter. The whole experience - in addition to the many difficulties with the food and service earlier in the week and months preceding --left us convinced that Forge & Fire was nowhere near the 5-star rating it claims for itself: in fact, Forge & Fire continues to be a NO-STAR place to eat (not even entitled to the claim of "restaurant").

   Shrimp appetizer came partially frozen. It took 45 minutes for the main course to arrive. Once again, no baked white potato available to select.

   Both the food and service at F&F have improved markedly. But the prices shown are vastly understated on Open Table; in fact, the average price for dinner exceeds $60 - double the $30 shown on Open Table. In addition, the menu continues to be stale and rarely changes, F&F needs a massive upgrade in terms of service personnel, daily food options and an outdated reservation policy.

    Waiter was new I believe and I am quite new at dining there. Together we worked it all out! It was a lovely evening and I was proud to take my adult daughter there.
