Fogo de Chao Brazilian Steakhouse - San Diego Ratings and Reviews
For the costs, I would expect a great experience, but it was not. The staff was nice enough, but overall, we just didn't get the value we wanted, nor have a great experience. The service was surprisingly slow, and our waiter was really unfamiliar with the wine list. It was also hard to get anyone to remove plates, or bring additional items like sauces. We waited and waited for people to stop by our table. All in all, a somewhat lack-luster experience despite good food, and nice ambiance. Would not recommend overall.
Nice meal, but the salad bar was less than impressive. Good meat and service. The cheese bread was delicious and warm.
Tends to push the drinks (brought a new coke when it wasn't ordered and just filled the glass without asking -- and billed for it). Should have roasted pineapple as many other churhascarias do.
Service was not very good. A table that was seated after us was waited on more than we were. Because we were at a table past the people that were seated after us the waiters would stop at their table and serve them and then the food would be gone. When the waiters returned they started at that table again and it would be the same thing over. I finally complained and then waiters started coming over but by then I was frustrated and ready to leave.
I have eaten at the Houston, Texas location and had amazing experience. Actually Houston was one of the best restaurant experiences I have ever had. My son has been to the Austin Texas location and he said it was way better service. I guess that is what I expected in San Diego
Mixed review here. We booked for 6 for New Year's Eve. Got to the restaurant to see a sign that they were not serving dinner. Walked in and were told that there was an electrical problem in the kitchen and their breakers were all down. They told us they were trying to get things restarted but needed the health inspector and fire department to clear it first, clearly next to impossible on New Year's Eve. They offered to sit us, and they were allowing everyone with reservations to eat at their salad bar for free, and order drinks (not free) if desired. We sat and ate from the salad bar (which wasn't bad, but clearly not why we booked there), and ordered a few drinks. After waiting 45+ minutes, we decided we didn't want to wait any longer to see if they would be able to re-open the kitchen and left. They ended up giving us our drinks for free as well. The staff was very nice and clearly felt terrible about the situation - they continually apologized profusely. We also felt really bad for the staff - what should have been a huge night of tips was going to be a complete bust for them. We read later that the restaurant was closed about an hour after we left. Very unfortunate situation, but I think they handled it fairly well (free food and drinks to those that showed). It would have been nice to have received an email or phone call to let us know when the situation occurred (apparently 2+ hours before we arrived), so we could have looked for alternate plans earlier.
Listen, it wasn't the restaurant's fault. There was an equipment issue and food wasn't served for more than an hour after our reservation. My only problem was that once food was brought out, we were ignored in favor of tables that were larger and had been there less time than we had. My husband and I had to flag over the staff any time that we wanted a drink or a refill. The salad bar was alright and the atmosphere was nice. Again, they were not able to cook anything for a specific time and I understand. But we decided to leave after checking the time that we had been waiting versus when food was available. It was definitely 20 minutes before we decided it wasn't good service to need to ask for someone to bring us our meal.
Service was spotty. Repeatedly had to ask for bread & accompaniments. There were 3 of us. The Bill was wrong, I only had the salad bar but was charged for the full dinner. It took forever to correct the bill & in spite of my asking for a cogent explanation of the bill, none was offered.
Very nice Brazilian restaurant. The wait staff was very attentive. The food was typical for this venue. They did not have cooked cinnamon pineapple as with other Brazilian places I have visited. It was very noisy, but this was likely due to the proximity to the salad bar we sat. It was disturbing to watch people allow their children free to graze touching food and placing back on the bar-watch your kids! The price was way too high for this venue, but in a touristy area.
My wife, daughter and I went to Fogo for Christmas dinner while we were in SD visiting family. My wife loves the place (she has been to several throughout the country). I was less than impressed. While the meats were good (tender, flavorful and between rare and medium depending on your choice) and the waite staff attentive, it's not my kind of place. I would rather pick a cut and just have that instead of getting a small bite of a huge variety of different meats. You get a small slice of ribeye, then a slice of roast, another or pork loin, etc. And if you want something other than beef, good luck. We waited almost the entire meal before someone came around with the chicken. Again, all of it was good. But if you just want chicken, or ribs or sausage you have to wait to see if they will bring it around. If this is what you are looking for though, I'm sure you will love it. I won't be back.
We had an overall good experience. Was there on Christmas eve and they were very busy. Salad bar was messy with several empty or nearly empty dishes that didn't get replenished or cleaned/straightened up during the 1 1/2 hours we were there. The dining room was packed and difficult to get around. Skewered meats were very salty. For the $, we've had better food and experience at Texas De Brazil.
Good "traditional Brazilian Churrascaria " experience. Cool having cooks bringing meats around on skewers and cutting them freshly at out table. Most meats were pretty good but nothing amazing, except the lamb was cooked perfrctly. We were excited when Filet Mignon came out but were soon very disappointing as it was over cooked and dry. At first I felt we were seated at a busy intersection, however after the "meat skewers" came around, all tables had busy activity. Pretty pricey. Nearly $400 for 4 people, only one alcohol drink each. But you're paying for the whole experience in higj-rent downtown. Most likely we won't return and will try the other two restaurants in town if we decide we want traditional Brazilian Churrascaria again.
Arrived before restaurant opened and expected to participate in happy hour. The front had a closed sign; like dummies didn't try the door which turned out to be unlocked. Even though missed happy hour, truly enjoyed our dining experience. Both my friend and I had been to a similar restaurant, this was way superior, both in food and service. Highly recommend.
The place was OUTSTANDING, Thanksgiving Dinner and it was to die for, even had turkey and dressing. The Salad Bar was beyond belief, they had everything and it was all excellent. The proteins were amazing, everyone better than the last, they said there were 28 that day, I think we tried at least 20 of them. Expensive, but you get what you pay for. We had a 10 minute wait in the lobby, they should have had the bar doors open, they could have sold us a bloody mary. I will be back when I have a special occasion.
