Great ambience food and wine. Definitely a do over.
Food was great - best linguini bolognese in town. Service - not so much - waited fifteen minutes beyond reservation time (standing room only, due to no bar access because of wine-pairing event). After an hour of waiting, we finally had to ask for a server to come and take our cocktail and appetizer order. Will probably not return due to bad service and lack of nearby parking. Too bad, because the food was good.
Will not be return or recommend. Made reservation 1 month prior, noting special milestone birthday. Hostess was rude and cold - seating us outside in the middle on the patio in a loud, not great table. When I requested any other options was told "NOPE - this is all we've got". Server, Alex was nice, but spread too thin and often left us waiting. Ordered $85+ bottle of wine - Alex brought out something different than what ordered, which luckily we caught before he opened. Didn't have us taste prior - just poured, which is risky (and unprofessional) with aged wines. 2nd and 3rd bottles ordered sold out - leaving us settling for more expensive options. Alex mis-ordered the entrée for our birthday guest - leaving her waiting over 10 minutes for her meal. Vegetarian pastas were just OK - easy to make at home. The artichoke app and Flora pizza were delicious - which is the only reason for 2 stars. Alex gave us 2 free deserts, which was kind and they were good. Overall - there are far better Italian restaurant for the value and experience. The Owner or GM came by our table and only spoke to the men, handing them invites to a Dec winemakers dinner. Whole table felt like he was obnoxious & seemed drunk. PASS ON THIS PLACE!
Great location - Staff was efficient and David was great
We've been to Flora several times and the food is always very, very good. The way the restaurant helps you celebrate a birthday is wonderful - they serve a great dessert with a waiter singing to the birthday person. Couldn't be better!
Service was a bit slow starting off.
Once we connected with a server, he apologized profusely and could
not have been nicer.
Server was Frankie B
Watch out for extra charges on the brunch. Toast, sides, etc.
We have introduced Flora to others and they have all loved it !!
Chic, city vibe and excellent food. A few mis-steps on the service, but nothing of concern, and very friendly. I will definitely go back, and recommend this restaurant to others.
Flora is a nice local spot. It's convenient to our house with a nice ambience and good food. On a Friday night, sitting out on the patio, it's a great way to end the week. The food is good but not spectacular - fairly standard Italian fare. It's missing that extra little something that would take it from a very good restaurant to a great restaurant. I wouldn't drive across San Diego for it, but it is nice if you live in the area.
nice ambience and excellent food; servers warm and accommodating; the music could be much improved--while Italian music is a great idea, it's very repetitive and too old school authentic, maybe a more modern version of Italian would be more suitable.
Nice place but food was mediocre, nothing you’d write home about
There were 8 of us, food excellent, love the ambiance of sitting outside, service excellent, just love this restaurant.
Loved seeing Roman Palacios perform! Talented beyond belief! Please have him on your calendar more and more! I have friends who came and saw him as well! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
The wine list is extensive and the waiters know what they are talking about. The black ink fra diavalo is my favorite entree (although if you don’t like things spicy, ask the waiter to tone it down).
The food was only ok, which was not quite enough given the price. Service was not the best, moreover kind of slow.
It was such a pleasant surprise to discover there was a live DJ playing the night we went (a Friday). The delightful dining experience evolved into a super cool scene at 9 pm with a dance vibe I have not experienced in Carmel Vally. We will totally be back, and I’m thrilled to have this in our neighborhood!
Four of us dined together at Flora during San Diego Restaurant Week. Artichoke appetizer was fantastic and all 3 main courses were great. It would have been nice to have an non-chocolate option for dessert. Noise level was OK until live music started at 9:00 and then it was too loud to visit with each other. Overall enjoyable evening.
We go here often because we love the atmosphere. I think this place keeps getting better. The bartender, Greg, is excellent. The food has often been mediocre in the past, but last night all 4 of our Italian entrees were terrific. (I think it might depend on who is in the kitchen that night.). The pizza and salads are always delicious. The service sometimes takes a little patience but is always polite and I think given staffing issues everywhere, they are doing a great job!!!
I've already submitted my review through Google. Horrible experience with the Hostess, other people expressed the same about her. Go to Google for a more detailed review. Hesitant to return - what a shame!
We live close enough to walk here so we've been here many times. My younger kids love the pizza, my oldest loves the Caesar salad. My husband loves the short rib ravioli and I love the spinach salad. There is something here for everyone in out family! We highly recommend!
Fantastic date night dining! We enjoyed every aspect of the time spent at Flora. The hostess and the waitstaff were attentive. The food was really good, the ambiance was great and the service was spot on. Our appetizers were running very late and we were offered a drink or dessert on the house for the inconvenience, which was very appreciated and professional. We will be repeat customers for sure!
Visited during restaurant week. Appetizer, entree and dessert for $40. We did one plus and two shared plates.
Fritto Misto, $15, good size portion of calamari, with shrimp and zucchini strips, with an Arrabiata sauce; zucchini soggy.
Carciofi alla Guidea, $14, imaginative appetizer, three pan roasted artichokes with olive oil, crispy garlic, parsley and basil. Definitely worth trying.
Polpette di Nonna, $14, somewhat bland meatballs in a marinara sauce.
Entree was Cabernet braised Angus short rib, $32. Moist, good portions; scattering of onion rings on the mashed potatoes; excellent mix of sautéed vegetables.
Dessert, chocolate pudding with coconut. Brought our own bottle, but no corkage during restaurant week. $20 is standard.
Sat outside. Corner table. Lots of good people watching on the sidewalks and cross-walks. Very slow service. Perhaps understaffed. Took time to get our wine opened, then orders placed, then a delay for the appetizers to be delivered. Entree more timely. Good bussing service. Perhaps give them another try during a regular week.
The restaurant was short staffed at the time of our reservation but the staff really stepped up and made sure the guests had a great experience. The food was delicious and the staff friendly!
The wait for food was over 2.5 hours… waiter didn’t come over to explain until group complained. No water, or bread brought to table. After over 2 hrs our entrees came. Manager offered $40 off bill but too little too late!
We reserved a space outside on the lovely patio at Flora Bar & Kitchen - so we couldn't order off of the Happy Hour menu (you have to be inside at the bar or a high top). No worries, the starters were ordered were excellent, price was fair.
Beautiful restaurant. The wait staff was very attentive and the food was great!
Nice to have somewhere this nice to go in our neighborhood.
All fantastic! The hostess was warm and welcoming! Alex, our server, was attentive, charming & caring. The food was awesome. We shared the artichokes, spinach salad and the short ribs. Absolutely delicious! Highly recommend!
Great location with indoor and outdoor seating, good bar scene but also reasonable for families. Service was ok but drinks took a long time to arrive after ordering. Food was not terrible but not great. We had a couple of the pasta dishes and chicken marsala. The chicken was pretty standard & taste was good / as expected. The pasta was good (tasted homemade), creamy pesto on fusilli was good but sauce on the ravioli fell way short. Overall experience was 3 stars but wish it was better because we'd go back if it were.
Great evening very friendly staff and food is over the Top
The food and service was outstanding. We were celebrating 2 birthdays and the waiter brought us two excellent desserts. Love this place.
We had an amazing brunch on their lovely patio. Looking forward to going back for dinner this week.
We went to this restaurant on a whim not knowing anything about it. Upon our arrival we realized it is absolutely beautiful and all of their staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. The food was absolutely delicious. The portions were huge and we overordered which allowed us to enjoy it 2 days in a row! We will definitely be back we will definitely be back!
Solid food experience. Great feel inside the restaurant.
Flora was a very nice experience. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, the food was delicious with beautiful presentation, and it made for a very nice evening.
Great brunch. Excellent coffee.
Took my mom here while she was visiting! Great pasta and service.
Wonderful evening sitting outside. Our table was outside and during our time there it thundered, lightened and poured rain. We were totally protected and enjoyed the weather "show."
We love Flora! But last night the music was too loud for the dining area. The music and singers were good but it was difficult to converse among our group. Also, the waiters had a difficult time hearing us and misunderstood some of our requests. If you want to chat and laugh with your friends, don't go on a night the band plays.
Unrelated to the volume: One of the appetizers we ordered was never delivered (but appeared on the bill-whoops!). This has happened on our last two visits. We keep coming back for the food, though, which is consistently good.
The food was delicious and the service was greAt! Really enjoyed our dinner out.
Very good food and attentive service. We sat at an outside table and enjoyed our meal. Everything was hot and prepared perfectly.
The only negative thing that I have to say is that the staff were not masked in the midst of this COVID surge and that made me uncomfortable. This is the first restaurant with unmasked staff that I have visited in the last 18 months.
We will return to this restaurant again. Nice menu selection. Service was attentive. It was clean and bathrooms were nice. Only suggestion is that pasta be done al dente, as it was too soft for our liking. Enjoyed the Penne Norma a lot.
