Flight Wine Bar
Flight showcases a robust globally diverse wine list consisting of over 650 wines including 40 wines by the glass and 26 wine flights. The inventive dinner menu with global influences that includes small, shareable plates like Burrata with spicy nduja or a traditional Charcuterie Plate as well as larger plates like a Hanger Steak with chimichurri or a tender Braised Octopus.
If you like wine, enjoy wine, want to learn about wine this place is fabulous. Knowledgeable, friendly staff. A full book of flights and wines by the glass to choose from. And another full book of wines by the bottle. Obscure ones to try, we enjoyed it so much we went back the next day!
Amazing food and wine selection. We went here with an old friend who is into wine. They have 30 or 40 wine selections by the glass offering a few which we recognized but also several options that were new to us. We started with two wine flights and then each had a glass. All white wines. Loved them all. Great place if one wants to expand their wine knowledge with smaller menu but great food.
This feels like a secret find. We loved the chill vibe. A lady walked up and greeted us with a smile. Turns out she was the owner. Our bartender was knowledgeable and friendly. The manager explained the food menu and took our order when the bartender was busy with someone else. The burrata and spicy sausage was delicious with the grilled bread. The roasted vegetables were great instead of a salad. And the braised octopus was the most tender we have had. But the wine list is definitely the star. The flights came with notecards so we could continue to read about them once they were poured. Nerdy list so you have to be open to being challenged or trying new things.
The wine and service were excellent. My only complaint was that the burrata was very expensive--basically two pieces of bread with some spreadable cheese for $14. Barely an appetizer.
Staff really nice! I like the idea of the three wines to try, but even though those are small drinking portions I skipped the white wine since I was afraid the wine would get warm (I like my white pretty chilled). The food was good., but from the looks of website pictures I expected more. Great selection of wines!
Bathroom situation not ideal.
Overall nice place, nice people.
The place is cute and comfortable, however I did not enjoy a single glass of wine (including sampling 2 flights with a friend) and the food was mediocre.
I’ll preface this review to say that I’ve eaten in many restaurants, nice and not-so-nice, around the world. I can’t think of a time when/where I’ve sent food back.
On this occasion, my husband was reluctant to send his chicken back (raw inside), but asked the waitress to have the kitchen check. The waitress, who initially dismissed my husband and said no, it was fine, took it to the chef, and in fact, the chicken was raw. The waitress did not apologize and the manager (who was present) didn’t talk to us at all. The ‘solution’ was 10% off our final bill, which came to $6 off. One would think that a minimum, the chicken dish would have been comped, especially due to the health risk. Because the meal took so long to re-prepare, we were late to our movie.
Never coming back! What a disaster.
A wonderful gem of a place! Girls night out, loved the flights of wine. Perfect location to sit and catch up with friends!
A hidden gem!
Okay to decent wine options and the flights are reasonably priced. However, they serve wine flightd in weird glassware that doesn't allow you to smell the wine. When you buy by the glass, you are offered stemware and can actually get a real taste.
Service was attentive and friendly. However, the food was disappointing. The portions were small and everything was consistently under-seasoned. Moreover, the fried chicken was not crispy.
Not for people who like wine. They serve generally cheap brands at a high premium. Food is mediocre and overpriced and the selection strange. Tourist trap.
The ambience was nice but the food was just not great.
Great experience - hope to go back
Love the range of wines they serve. Service was great! I'd like to see more food options...but despite that, I'll be back!
Thoroughly enjoyable experience...wide variety of wines and delicious entrees. The braised octopus was awesome and the ambience was wonderful. Great experience!
Really great wine selection as well as options for non-wine drinks. Food was good, but pricey.
We didn’t eat, but everything else was perfect. Went for happy hour on a Monday so the vibe and the atmosphere was chill. We enjoyed our time.
Sometimes "less is more", and sometimes "more is better". That's how I view Flight Wine Bar.
I understand the business economics of running a wine bar in a busy urban environment. The offering of wine flights is certainly a draw--especially when there's an appeal to share opinions with your companion or date. But there's probably too many flights, too many wines, and even too many whole wine bottle selections; because of this, in order to maintain a reasonable price level, the food & wine portions are really, really small. For the flights, for example, although you get 3 glasses, the total amount equals one generous wine glass at any other bar.
Worse yet, the food portions are also very small. Their entrees are more like appetizer sizes.
In the end, I found myself paying around $60 for a flight, an extra mini-glass of wine, and an entree. For half that price, I could have bought a really nice wine bottle in a store nearby--and filled myself more with a fast-food burger.
The manager told me that the wine menu was going to change soon since they were ADDING to the wines already on the wine menu. If anything, I would have hoped that Flight would be REDUCING the wines...so that they can focus more on delivering more value to its customers.
Hence, my "less is more"...and "more is better".
The staff and management at Flight is wonderful. When I walked in and I was waiting for my group, the owner I believe offered me a glass of this wonderful Chardonnay. He explained the grape to me and the type of barrel it was stored in. I enjoy Flight over any vineyard in DC. Besides wine they have some excellent spirits to enjoy. I loved the vegetarian options. The food has flavor and the menu is not overboard.
Popped in for a pre-game bite. Limited food menu but what we had was fabulous. Fried chicken and the ricotta with figs were real stand outs! Decor is a little bland but the service was excellent and the location is perfect for a pre-game bite or post game drink.
I don't even know how to say thank you properly to the staff that made our trip so amazing! My boyfriend and I celebrated our anniversary there with wine flights and a few dishes. The service was amazing and I wish I remembered everyone's names. We got recommendations for their favorite spots, tons of questions about wine answered, and just overall outstanding service. Thank you!!
Great service and selection.
The food and service left a lot to be desired. I have a feeling they were understaffed when I went, because I had to hunt down servers for more wine! At a WINE BAR.
If you're looking to spend too much money on portions that are TINY, this is the place to do it.
I wasn't much of a wine drinker when I started going to Flight wine bar in Chinatown. I work in the area. But I kept returning for the service, good food, and the ambiance. And I have now been converted into a wine explorer. The space is pretty. Service from the servers and the owners/sommeliers is always exceptional. And the wine and food is among the best in the city. You never know if they are going to be very busy (or sometimes they close for events) so I always email them for a reservation.
Excellent wine and food. Our server Kathy gave great recommendations, had a wonderful personality and overall provided great service. It was a lovely experience and I have recommended this venue to several friends, family and colleagues.
What a lovely and delicious night. We order a selection of small and large plates - highlights were the octopus and the asparagus. Great waitstaff made us a custom flight of big reds that was amazing. We’ll be back.
Fiona, our server, was incredible. She was vibrant, enthusiastic, and genuinely passionate about educating us on the wines in my and my boyfriend's flights. She was quick to check up on us between drinks, and made sure we enjoyed everything we ordered. The wines, importantly, were delicious. Best selection of reds and roses in the DC area!
Food is subpar, service and wine isheeat
We had a wonderful evening. We arrived early for our reservation, but they were able to seat us immediately. The hostess recommended a great beer for my husband and took great care of us. Our waitress Fiona was knowledgeable and helpful in assisting with our menu choices. The starting olives were perfect (buttery and warm). We had the burrata with bread and also the short ribs (with Asian pear and radish). I had the "I Like Oak and I Cannot Lie . . . Red Wines" flight, followed by a glass of the Vino Budimir Triada from Serbia. Each wine was wonderful in its own right . . . and they were perfectly thoughtfully teamed with each other.
In addition to a fantastic wine list, the flight trio of wines lets you sample with the small plates as you dine. The owner was very informative about his wines, including those from South America, a real treat. Their Arancini, Burrata and country pate were great starters for our dinner. The braised octopus was delicious, served with white beans and fennel. The vegetarian asparagus and onion also quite delicious. A great night out, highly recommend.
I always enjoy coming to Flight for the great selection of flights that they offer. I personally enjoy the Southern Hemisphere flight. Great date spot for drinks.
Ambiance is always spectacular and the food incredible. Service was excellent and very timely through the entire night. And of course, you have to love their wine selection and flight menu options!
Excellent food and the bartender really knew her wines. Excellent service overall. We sat at the bar and had a great time.
Very tasty option, small portions making this a pricey evening
Limited menu, minuscule portions, a kitchen that takes 80 minutes to serve food, and high prices: a value-free experience. The only reason for two stars is the bottle list of wines.
Great for a girls night. So many wine options for different flights. We had burrata & potatos for snacks. Both were great!
Outstanding wine selections and taste of food was phenomenal!!
Love the wine flight selections and can be paired with great if limited menu options. Dined solo and had great attention from my very friendly server. Noise level was barely tolerable, though—don’t come here if you need a place to have a quiet conversation.
Very knowledgeable wait staff. Great and interesting selection of wines. Food is fine, but it’s more something to accompany your flight of wine than the reason you come.
Our server was very attentive but not obtrusive. The food was delicious and the sparkling wine flight that our server recommended to pair with our food choices was perfect.
Planning on returning soon to try some of the other wine flights.
