Delicious med food! Very pleased with the quality especially at such a reasonable price point! Our waiter was so great, enthusiastic and made us a special cocktail he’d been working on when we wanted to stray off menu. Can’t wait to go back !
Everything clean and social distanced. Service was fast and friendly. Will come back soon
Word of advice- GET THE CAKE!
Thanks Anon! (Passing your comment along to Eileen, pastry chef.)
Very enjoyable dinner and wine in the bubble.
Whole chicken was really juicy perfect dinner for outdoor winter dining.
Look forward to going back soon.
Food was great, heaters in Igloo's did not warm the place up much, I won't be back until eating inside is safe.
This place was awesome! Best hummus I've ever had. The bubbles felt very COVID safe and were warm enough to just wear a sweater. 10/10
We had an excellent pandemic dining experience here! The bubbles are heated with space heaters, so we still dressed a little warm, but it was very comfortable the night we were there (about 30 degrees). The food was amazing! Everything in the salatim was really good, the pitas are huge. Felt really safe, the waiter never entered our bubble but passed things through the zippered door, and we were completely separate from other people dining. Already talking about going back, would highly recommend!
Thanks EG! It's an odd time, but the bubbles are probably a keeper even when we return to "normal".
This is the third time I go to Fiya. I love their food. It is always fresh and generous. Service is great. They have tents for outdoor sitting and they are very safe about covid. Highly recommend!!
Who would’ve thought you could take your coat off when eating ‘outside’ in Chicago in January? Loved the beautiful patio, the cozy heated igloo and the food, especially the hummus and roasted cauliflower
Thanks Anon! It's a new world.
The food at Fiya is phenomenal. Everything was just delicious. That said, they were OUT of hummus and OUT of steak. Not sure how a middle eastern restaurant runs out of hummus but...Since we were planning to order hummus as an appetizer along with falafel and a steak on pita sandwich as our main courses, it was a bit of disaster. We ended up ordering a whole smoked chicken and it was juicy and yummy. I realize it’s not the servers fault, but we did think it was a little odd not to tell us that as soon as we sat down and or give us a free dessert or discount or something like that. So, while we enjoyed the food we did get and loved the outdoor dining bubble, I can only give the restaurant three stars overall.
I am forwarding your comments to encourage more efforts to not run out of hummus, but it will happen. We make it fresh daily and don't serve day old.
Igloos are great!
We're all eskimos these days. Thanks Peter!
This is one of those places that gets the “Snow Globe/Bubble” concept right. They’re warm, roomy, perfect. The service is exceptional; the food absolutely amazing—and our group sampled a broad cross section of the menu, all incredible; and the value is ridiculously good. Huge home run, will definitely be back and soon!
The food was delicious and the service was great! We ate outside in the heated bubbles for a safe and cool experience.
We had a lovely experience in a heated bubble at Fiya! Perfect place for a cozy dinner for 2 or a small family. The food was excellent, especially the Moroccan fish!
This is a new gem and a great find. Outstanding food and adorable bubbles with heaters in a lovely and large back garden. Memorable and doable in this weather.
COVID Dining: my husband, son, and I sat on the back patio with a heated private bubble. It was ~25F outside, but we did not feel the need to wear our jackets when inside the bubble. Food was delicious. Contact with the staff was kept to a minimum - bubble unzipped for food delivery only, all other communication was with the bubble zipped up.
The food was delicious!! We weren't the hugest fans of Jerry's, but the Mediterranean/Middle Eastern fare at Fiya is worlds above the sandwiches they used to serve here. The khachapuri was amazing, the salatim was a treat, and the za'atar fries were crispy deliciousness. The pita and breads are a dream - clearly baked fresh in the big hot oven you see when you first walk in. The cocktails are pretty tasty as well. The ambiance was nice too - we got one of the heated bubbles out back, and it was private, comfortable, and quite safe. The staff were as conscious of our safety as theirs, and it was a pleasant experience overall.
My only complaints are these - I might have liked a heads up that arak is a strong licorice flavored liqueur; if I had known I would have ordered something else off the bat instead of having to send it back. Second, the heater in the bubble went out - not entirely their fault, as the circuit blew; I appreciated the effort they took to make the bubbles comfortable. Still, it was a bit chilly towards the end of our meal. Third, and this is not really a complaint - it's fairly expensive. TOTALLY worth it, but just be prepared.
Highly recommend this place - we will definitely be back!
They were out of several things we tried to order, including hummus - I don't really understand how it's possible to be out of a basic dish in the cuisine that doesn't require many fresh ingredients. Service/communication about the menu was disappointing, as well. We were excited to support a local restaurant during this difficult time but left feeling like it was a waste of our money, unfortunately.
Laura, Apologies for that. Our chef suffered a severe cut and was unexpectedly off that day, so combined with being busy, it was an unfortunate coincidence. Also, fyi, making fresh hummus is a two-day process (beans soaked overnight). This doesn't happen often but, when it's out, it's out. We do make hummus fresh daily. Many spots use canned chickpeas. We do not. Mark
Fabulous dinner at Fiya! We felt very safe during COVID in our bubble and our waiter was extremely kind and knowledgeable. Highly recommend!
Thanks Morgan! Mark
Loved the innovative cuisine from across the middle east. Great set up with COVID tents and spaceheaters in the courtyard.
Thanks Jason! It's a new time we're living in, isn't it? Mark
The appetizers were the highlight. Given Covid, they all tried to ensure a nice experience. Would be wonderful for vegetarians.
Thanks Michael. We're trying in these new times. Mark
We enjoyed the food, especially the Moroccan fish, the whole chicken, sweet potato, cauliflower, and hummus.
It felt comfortable and safe to sit in a bubble outside.
Loved the hummus and other items. The bubble outdoor experience made a big difference.
Thanks Harley! They are fun. Mark
The food was fantastic! The heated bubble made was nice to enjoy dining out with worrying.
Thanks Teri! We're pleased that they allow diners to see out, and they're surprisingly warm. Mark
we ate in a clear tent in the back courtyard and had a really nice time! Food atmosphere and service were wonderful!
Thanks Elissa! Mark
Best pita sandwiches and muffins and scones!! Wow
Went there for the first time and reserved an outdoor bubble and had an amazing experience! The food was great and the staff were very pleasant and accommodating. Will definitely go back!
Thanks Michael! The bubbles are pretty fun, aren't they. Mark
I was so excited to try this restaurant after seeing it featured on ABC7 Chicago. And we finally had a decent weather day so was looking forward to sitting on the patio that I had seen on TV. However, the evening began with an unpleasant exchange with the hostess and kind of went downhill from there. It was around 20 mins before anyone even came to greet us, bring water, etc. The waiter tried really hard and was super nice and responsive, but he seemed inundated with all of his tables. It turned out to be a very chilly and windy night (of course not under Fiya's control) - but this meant that we really wanted his (or other staff) attention when we needed something and tried to eat quickly and get out. More often than not, no one was around. Even the check out process took a long time. With restaurants struggling, I would just think extra customer service and care should be given right now. Also - the only 2 heatlamps were already reserved (didn't know I needed to do that in advance) and the other 2, I was told, were not working. It would have been so much nicer customer experience under a heat lamp.
The pandemic creates the opposite problem for those of us trying to stay open and keep our staff employed. We have to be sharp so as not to lose too much money these days. It is a puzzle on a cold, windy night to decide how much to staff, and it sounds like we were busy that night anyhow. I see that we had a floor staff of 3, which is solid. Maybe avoid an an "eat quickly and get out" attitude if dining out in the future? In our case, we are not that sort of restaurant in the best of times. Mark
I've been to Israel three times. This is the best Israeli food I've had in the U.S. We sat outside in a heated bubble. Were completely comfortable. The apps, the main course were all so delicious. The laffa bread is way better than any pita you'll have. The draft beer menu is incredible. We had a mezcal cocktail as well, simply perfection. Would absolutely recommend this place to anyone and everyone.
Thanks FoodDude. Appreciate the good words and I've sent around to staff! Sorry about my previous, terse reply. Got carried away with cutting and pasting. Mark
Fiya is doing everything they can to stay alive during the pandemic. The food is delicious as always. The bubble has a heater but bring warm clothes due to the bubble having to be aired out between guests. I definitely felt safe!
The outdoor bubble was a great experience but unfortunately the heating wasn’t working and it was almost impossible to fell comfortable and enjoy the evening. I hope they can fix this problem. I really want come back again!
Sorry Ana. In those early days we got surprised by the heaters tripping breakers (blowing fuses). We have fixed that since. Mark
I've been here a couple times on the patio. Food has been ok -- some things very good and others just ok. They were out of a lot of stuff this past time -- menu items and several of their specialty cocktails and some basic wine options. We were put in a plastic tent and they said they turned on a heater but it never came on and we survived without it. We did keep the tent flap open because we were four friends from four different households/lifestyles. I feel for this place because I'm sure it has great potential but it's hard to get a true sense of it because they opened to a Corona Market. We all had pita sandwiches and they were good and so were the fries. The "cigars" are not so exciting. I think they should try to ramp up their takeaway menu options to get more traction for the coming months.
The food is always amazing and the setting is good. We sat outside in an igloo and
felt very comfortable. The Hummus in the city
Thanks Keith. It's my favorite too, although I'm told it is done in an earthy style as opposed to some that are creamier. All good. Mark
Really lovely setting, well-seasoned and luscious food, attentive waitstaff.
Thanks Rebecca! Mark
Had a very nice dinner at Fiya. Lovely wait staff. They were out of a few dinner options which was disappointing, however given that this dinner was during covid (and nice weather) and they had a nice crowd - I am guessing they underestimated some items, so I am glad business was maybe more busy than they expected.... I would go back again and I would recommend it to friends.
Thanks Laure. We got slammed that Saturday, both because of the great weather but also because the election brought out throngs into the streets (that then got hungry). Mark
I was disappointed that they were out of the cured salmon for the Jerusalem Breakfast but failed to note that when they brought it out to the table.
Thanks TayTay. Apologies on that salmon. We might be moving to smoked trout and one hand wasn't talking to the other. Mark
Beautiful patio, nice and interesting cocktails, apptz/where you can select 4 items and a pita i felt was very overpriced for what it was and the amounts. The whole chicken was good, and the salad was good but i felt missing ingredients that were on the menu. Overall it is an interesting place i may return to.
Thanks Eye. We remain a work in progress, so apologies for any missing menu items. Mark
Phenomenal back patio - very picturesque set up. Friendly staff (followed covid guidelines, for those curious) that really know the menu. BIG beer list, but nice that they have flight options that allow you to taste test many brews. The hummus is a must-order. Next time, I'll order the whole chicken - that looked amazing too! Highly recommend this neighborhood joint any day :)
Everything was delicious. The cheese bread was a highlight as was the Amba sauce. Delicious and authentic Israeli cuisine makes me wish I was there.
Us too. Someday we can all travel again. Be anonymous, but not a stranger! Thanks. Mark
Food was great, service Ok. Cocktails were not good. Wine is wierd and server wasn’t informed of their wine list. Heaters outside were great, bring a blanket too!
Thanks Foodie. The wine list is composed entirely of natural wines, some of which can indeed be weird but the wine list gives three full, detailed lines of description for each one and which clearly indicates which are "weird". Weird but wonderful.
