Fishing With Dynamite Ratings and Reviews
Food was over priced for what was served. Very limited menu. Items advertised on the internet menu were not available. Claim chowder in particular was very disappointing. It was difficult to visit with friends because of volume of "background" music, which added to the noise level of a very small crowded room.
The service is exceptional, the wine selection perfect and the seafood was over the top... the New England clam chowder is not what I was expecting. New England clam chowder needs to be thick with lots of seafood - your spoon should stand up free in the soup. Just saying but everything else was to die food. Highly recommend but expensive.
We had a service issue and the management jumped on it. They were exceedingly attentive and wanted to rectify the problem. The manager insisted on sending us dessert and then compted our entire meal!! They really care and turned it into a positive experience that we will all share with friends.
The food was great - perfectly cooked and fresh. We got the diver scallops and the snapper, both specials. But, we couldn’t relax because it was freezing cold in there! They kept the door open all the time and there was a breeze going through the place. My father was using a napkin as a scarf, so I know they could see we were uncomfortable...
FWD more than lived up to its reviews. The small plates are generous and impeccably prepared. The little gem salad was a green goddess surprise; the crab cake was golden and crunchy on the outside and moist and sweet on the inside (one of the best we have had and we are from blue crab heaven in Florida); the yellowtail tacos were an unexpected flavor and texture explosion (they must be tried); and the Alaskan halibut was cooked perfectly and outstanding. We were hungry and there were 2 of us and we walked away completely sated. The Malbec was rich with just the right amount of tannin and an IPA crisp and bitter. The tiny place was packed on an upper 90’s day and the AC could not quite keep up (but the menu makes a decent fan). We did not have dessert but a woman and her elderly mother came in just for the key lime pie and pronounced it delicious (the mother was having her birthday which consisted of key lime pies at all the best eateries and this is where they began).
Quaint little place that's great for a date night. There are no TV's so you can focus on the conversation and enjoy delicious food.
Its very hard to get a table, but there's a reason why, its definitely worth checking out this little gem that's surrounded by a ton of "american fusion" places. This place has a small menu, but everything that we had was fantastic.
My only complaint was that the music, although great playlist, it was a bit loud for my taste. I wish that they would just turn it down a bit so that you could have a proper conversation without shouting across the table.
Other than that, definitely going to keep going back.
Every single time I take a quick trip to LA I always stop at fishing with dynamite, this pass Tuesday was no different. We took my friend for her birthday, she enjoyed her meal but me and my other friend who frequent the restaurant often were very disappointed with our meal this time. The oysters and scallops were amazing as usual but everything else was blah. The gumbo was horrible and I am a native from Louisiana so I know good gumbo. The yellowfin crudo was horrible, something we eat there all the time just missed the mark. But overall my friend enjoyed herself which all that mattered but me and my other friend who consider ourselves regulars might not be going back for a while.
A high noise level with tables very close had everybody shouting, from the wait staff to the neighbor at the next table. This is a pure sea food restaurant, with not much of a fish selection. The prepared food was generally good, although not exceptional, and the cerviche needs work.
Our favorite MB spot. Started with the YF Tuna Crudo, which was amazing. Would have ordered more, if we weren't waiting for our Thai Snapper. The Thai Snapper never disappoints. It is a whole fish, deep fried and seasoned impeccably. Finished the meal with Key Lime Pie, which was amazing.
Tight space, a little loud, a little pricey... but it all works amazingly! Had a phenomenal dining experience, would definitely recommend and go back. Great décor, music and outstanding food and wine recommendations. Chowder 'broth' was unbelievable, crab cakes were melt in your mouth delicious, yellow fin was amazing and we had the Minnow (since we wanted to sample everything!), which was spectacular. Our server, Jason, even went out of his way to help me out of lint on my black dress from the napkins - ALL GOOD!! Set the night up for a wonderfully memorable evening.
I recently attended a business lunch earlier this week at FWD, as we locals refer to restaurant. We were seated by a window facing Manhattan Ave. I literally counted a range of between 6-10 flies buzzing around our table and on the glass next to our table. The same issue occurred on my previous lunch there as well. I found this disgusting but given it was a business lunch, I apologized to my guest. I mentioned this to my waiter who just laughed it off?! He said there was nothing he could do? For a lunch for two that cost almost $100 w no alcohol, I am offended that My concerns were trivialized. To the Sims brothers and FWD Mgmt, shut the front door! Put up some fly paper , but handle your business! Your food is amazing but way pricey for lunch! If I have to pay for fantastic over priced food then PLEASE hold the FLIES!! Also the last lunch I had there also was fly attended...
The food was creative, delicious, and overall very good. The wait staff was friendly in this casual environment. The music volume was a bit too high and made conversation difficult. I am assuming that the restaurant employees left the front door open due to the unusually high temperatures, but this allowed flies to come into the restaurant. There were about four of them that kept buzzing around my head and the heads of my guests. This made for an uncomfortable environment. Everyone had a good chuckle when I killed one of the flies with my paper menu. I figured I needed to take matters into my own hands after I made comment to the wait staff regarding the flies, and the waitress just chuckled.
