Have always loved Fishing with Dynamite, but our last experience was extremely poor in regards to quality. Whereas previous times we've gone we feel like the food has been fresh, both the oysters and the crab legs this time seemed like they had been frozen. We also were confused after ordering 1/2 lb crab legs, and getting only 1.5 claws? We asked the waitress where the legs were and she just said we would have needed to request the "leg" portion if we wanted it. Thought that was implied when we ordered "Crab Legs". I understand that the current Covid situation has impacted restaurants in many ways, but when it comes to the freshness and quality of the food I can't ignore that FWD has unfortunately started dropping off. Hopefully they were just having an off day and will return to their previous glory in the near future.
The oysters and Peruvian Scallops are delish!! Server and staff very attentive!!
Excellent food at a great location. Superb service. Pricey, but that's the cost of admission.
Birthday celebrations 🎉
Very good food and nice wait staff. Sadly we had to stand waiting for our reserved table for 30 minutes. Then our table was in the hot sun, no shade.
Some of the food was outstanding. Some of it was so so. Service was excellent!
The food is great, the staff is friendly, and they are keeping you safe (including plexiglass between the tables). Highly recommend!
We wanted to go to Fishing With Dynamite since before Covid broke out. The outdoor dining setup was very nice, the food and drinks excellent and since this was on a warm Monday night and the street traffic was very quite it was an excellent experience.
Amazing oysters, food, and cocktails!
We adore F&D's new outdoor space! This was our first time, and the set-up was so so good - plex barriers between tables, fully shaded, and flowers between us and the street. The food was fabulous - as always, we could have just had order after order of Peruvian scallops, but we branched out and had shrimp tacos, hamachi crudo, and grilled octopus to round out the meal. Our friends (first timers) were especially taken with the uni, fresh caught from Santa Barbara. Service was great - good hygiene protocols in evidence with masks properly worn and most staff also wearing face shields - and as always, friendly and cheerful. We're not dining out often these days (because ::waves her hand around::) but we'll be back the next time we want out of the house.
Saturday evening watching the sun set on MB while feasting on a Queen Mary assorted shellfish platter.....Plus the two of us enjoyed the Hamachi Sashimi, Cape Cod Squash Rolls, Lump Crab Cake, new item Grilled Octopus, Lobstah Roll, Clam Chowda, and shared the amazing Key Lime Pie with a scoop of Mascarpone ice cream. Man, it was all so good, wish I had tried the freshly harvested Santa Barbara sea urchin too. Got to credit Chef Alice and her kitchen squad for great prep and execution As usual, the service provided by Casey was outstanding. This joint is the bomb!!!
This place has emerged as one of my absolute favorite seafood places in greater LA. Stumbling on it pre-Covid, it was a tiny raw bar with an East Coast feel in the midst of Manhattan Beach. Post-Covid they have expanded into the street, expanding their seating capacity. Incredible fresh oysters, ridiculous citrusy scallops on the shell, occasional grilled Santa Barbara shrimp and locally harvested uni. Great staff. I just make this a destination trip every time I’m out west.
Food was good as usual but service on our most recent visit was much slower than usual.
We love the food at this restaurant and it’s one of our favorite local places. However, we have had to wait a long time for our table at 2 out of 3 recent reservations. I totally understand that Covid makes things difficult, but this is a small place, so the number of tables outside is pretty much the same as what used to be inside. At our first Reservation(since Covid) we waited almost 45 minutes and this last reservation we waited 30. That’s really not acceptable. And, it wasn’t just us. We thought we were the only couple waiting for our table, but there were two other couples ahead of us who decided to walk around while waiting. So when a table cleared each time and we thought it was ours, a different couple showed up and got the table. I’m not sure if the kitchen is having a hard time or people are just hanging longer at their tables. If it is the former, maybe stagger the reservations more? If it’s the latter, maybe instill a time limit on the table which many restaurants are doing during at this time. All I know is that a 45 minute wait with a reservation is really not ok.
The only bummer is that we would have preferred a table that was not on the sidewalk. It was a little weird with people walking right by our table. The hostess said we were supposed to request the patio but there wasn’t an option for that. The food and service were great though! I love the partitions!
Dinner was great and our server was terrific. We will be back.
Amazing as always. A great way to celebrate our 7th wedding anniversary.
Fishing With Dynamite (FWD) is our go-to favorite for special occasion dining. The food is consistently outstanding (the Peruvian scallops are a MUST, along with the clam chowda and key lime pie) as well as the service. The staff is knowledgeable on the food and wine, and will not steer you wrong. Worth mentioning is the excellent job FWD has done with the outside dining experience offering comfortable spacing between tables and lots of greenery for privacy.
Wonderful experience as usual. As this was my first time dining at Fishing with Dynamite with company, I made certain to make a reservation (the place is tiny and fills up quickly). Also, since we are still in the middle of a pandemic, indoor dining is still not allowed, and not knowing what the outdoor situation would be, I wanted to be sure to get a table. The food was spectacular as it always is. They take an already great product (seafood) and prepare it in ways that showcase it. Case in point, the Peruvian scallops. That single bite alone has kept me coming back from NJ over the past 5+ years. This visit was made even more special, as the staff was so gracious with their service to create a dish from my misunderstanding of the menu. The server communicated my intention of the dish (essentially the combination of two dishes) to the kitchen, and they executed it flawlessly. Thanks to the whole team and see you again!
We love going their!!
Chelsea is always an on point server. We go every Saturday. Can not find better chilled bar anywhere!!!!! Love fwd
Ocean breezes, and the best oysters in Los Angeles. What more do you need? OH! A Bangkok Dangerous cocktail. Or two.
This place was AMAZING!! Table was ready within minutes of us arriving. Waitress was super sweet, food was on point, and drinks were good as well. My only complaint was that the drinks took forever! I don't feel like I should get my appetizers before I get my first drink.
Over all the service was good but the pace the food came out was extremely long. In between appetizers and entrees was almost 45 minutes so was rushed to finish the meal. Also, the food was good but not worth the money.
Food is outstanding. As were the servers. Hostess seating people was kind of rude and abrupt but we managed not to let her ruin our lunch.
Awesome food, sluggish staff. Outdoor seating was set up really nice however we experienced quite a few bugs while on the patio. Overall, pretty good.
Food and service were very good. A little pricey and because of sitting outside on the sidewalk, it would have been better with a few less flys .
Patio dining with a nice ocean breeze. Food, as always, was terrific as was the service (Maddie). Was our first dining-out experience since March, and we plan on going back very, very, soon. Thanks again for bringing a slight touch of normalcy back to our life's.
Amazing crab cakes and lobster rolls and the French fries are very good as well The service people are great
Ask about construction work before you book
This place is so great and so consistent. We’re never disappointed. Raw bar alone is the best. Thanks again.
We shared the Mother Shucker and it was absolutely delicious! Our waitress was wonderful too... and it was so nice to sit outside!
good food and fun vibe - even when eating in the street (covid patio).
The absolute best seafood I have ever had....! Highly recommend
FWD has mastered the outdoor seating! Too often, sun catching you between hastily placed umbrellas can ruin a meal as you squirm to not cook in the hot sun. They have done a great job of allowing you to enjoy their amazing seafood, keep your covid exposure risk down, and not cook while doing it.
As always, they have the best seafood in LA metro. Sweet king crab, great oysters, and creative ways to serve octopus, soft shell crab and fish. I'm there often to take advantage of all they offer!
I was excited to sit outdoors and have lunch at their restaurant. I have a small service dog. They insisted I put him on the dirty sidewalk and said he could not lie down on my lap during lunch. So I left. Had some attitude unfortunately.
Great meal - amazing oysters and the best clam chowder in LA! Service was awesome as well.
Always a great time if you don't mind spending some money and celebrating an occasion. Always get oysters and Peruvian scallops. Always fresh and delicious. Service is great. Enjoyed the outdoor experience for the first time.
Everything, from the initial welcome to the service and the food and wine, was so exceptional that I hardly noticed it was temporarily outdoors because of COVID-19.
