My family and I ended up leaving this place before we ate due to the poor experience. Walking in to an empty restaurant we stood at the entry waiting for someone to help us while the staff stared. The waiter came over and looked surprised and annoyed we wanted to sit to eat dinner. Then they couldn’t find our reservation - not that it mattered in an empty restaurant but they were accusatory of us. We sit. And wait. And wait. Finally the waiter comes by - we ask about the soup. He looks at us and mutters oh yeah we don’t have that today. With that we got up and left.

This place has the look and feel of an old school British pub and the menu to match. The description and name gave us a very different expectation. This is likely a great post work bar with decent food.

My partner and I came here on New Year’s Eve. We were very happy with the food selection, overall presentation, taste, and quality. Additionally, the service was friendly and quick! We will definitely be back!

Great attention from service staff, food was good and arrived quickly.
The loud bartender swearing and being very loud with the people at the bar spoiled our experience.

Service was perfect, very attentive, yet not too intrusive. Food was plentiful and delicious, especially the fried chicken. Well drinks at $5 was a great deal. Warm and cozy and quiet.

This was our 2nd time visiting over a 4 day period. Was hesitant and apprehensive at first due to the wide ranging reviews. Upon arrival everyone (staff) were extremely pleasant. While reviewing the menu, we were able to overhear a party of 8 boast about how delicious each of their particular meals were. Another table of two also seemed to be enjoying their meals. During the 1st visit we ordered and shared the 1/2 dozen oysters and Kale Salad. Both were remarkable. My entree were the pork chops. Wasn't a definite fan, a little tough in my opinion. Didnt taste bad but was a little disappointed. My guest had the margherita pizza which turned out phenomenal. We opted to give it another attempt at redemption. The second trip, the oysters were on special (BONUS)! And we had the Kale Salad. The salad wasn't it good as the first time we tried it, it seemed to be lacking the amount of dressing. But still a good price and salad for the price. My guest ordered the margherita pizza again and it was just as good and maybe better than the first time. I went with the Fungi Pizza. Amazingly good! The place is dimly lit, especially in a dark themed restaurant. They have led candles on each table. But you may need a cell phone flashlight to use an more effective light source. Service was great, non intrusive but attentive. The first visit we had Donavin. Pure perfection as a server. Probably the main reason why we returned. Slightly disappointed that he wasn't there for our second visit. Stefan was our server on the 2nd visit. Very charming person and knowledgeable. Not as engaging or charismatic as Donavin, but, equally as professional. I'd definitely return if in the area again. Great experience and even better food.

Service was slow (and no it was not packed) and not friendly. Even with a reservation we had to wait. Food came out room temperature but was too tired to complain. Main course came out with our appetizers.

Wrong steaks were brought out...beef had no flavor...took 20 minutes for anything other than water to arrive...had hunt down someone to bring the check. It was bad...didn’t realize this was a restaurant connected to a hotel

The kitchen substituted almonds for the walnuts in my salad, without consulting or informing me. I’m allergic to almonds. The server comped our meal, which I appreciated. I would not recommend eating the food here.

An unfortunate dinner.
Started with a cup of under cooked lentil soup that tasted of dish water.
Continued with a dry pork chop served with an inedible side of something green.
Finished with warm and supple apples on top of cardboard crust (I think it was meant to be a tart).
The staff, pleasant and well meaning, were all over the place and nowhere to be found when needed.
The photos on the website look more gastro pub than the sports bar it seems to be.
Such a shame for what had promised to be an earnest attempt at locally sourced fare.

Service was spotty, good at the beginning, had to hunt for check. Best fish and chips - line caught (wild) cod. Ahi was very good, drinks good and ample. Attached to a hotel, and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, which probably accounts for the service issues. Lively bar.

Really not impressed. There were only TWO people working the bar, the host stand, and the tables when I first arrived. The food was just ok, but certainly nothing the write home about. Won't be back.

We went after seeing a film at the nearby Embarcadero Cinema. On a Saturday evening, the place was nearly deserted. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Food was so-so. Cheeseburger: very good. Crab cakes: very good. Grilled calamari salad w beans: great concept but made too spicy for a delicately-flavored seafood. Roasted vegetables were disappointing: When first served, the zucchini and most other veggies were cooked properly but the carrots were nearly raw - cold and crunchy inside. When I asked waiter to correct, the chef threw it in the microwave to make everything soft, but now these were boring steamed vegetables, not roasted vegetables. The kitchen apparently does not understand how to put things on the grill at staggered times so everything is properly cooked at the end. Or slice thinner or partly pre-cook. Simple stuff, really.

I was excited to try Fish & Farm, but my colleagues and I were disappointed by the service. The waiter seemed to be the only waiter working for dinner service with 1 person clearing the plates. When we arrived, the waiter approached the hostess desk and pointed us to our reserved table. He showed no emotion or enthusiasm. He was simply doing his job. The ambiance of the dining area was underwhelming because the televisions at the bar were loud and the tables are very close to the bar. We all really enjoyed the food- we had king salmon and shared several appetizers and wine. There are so many options in San Francisco, so I would not return.

The restaurant is a nice venue with an active bar, good bartender and good TV access. The service was disorganized, multiple people would take orders but then not communicate to the main server, waited too long for the drinks and food. The food (Pork Chop with cabbage)was not carefully prepared or designed...meat too dry, entrée not having a good mix of sides, not good complimentary flavors. Will not go back.

The ahi was over cooked to the point where it looked like canned tuna. When this was pointed out to the waiter his response was that it was “medium rare”. It should have been raw inside as advertised.

I'm always in charge of finding a restaurant for Saturday lunch when my cousins come up from Loss Angeles once a year. I always try to find a place that has a great menu and environment. Fish & Farm was a winner!! They had the blue cheeseburger and Portabello mushroom sandwiches, which they each loved, while I had the best fish and chips I can ever remember enjoying (the fish was cooked perfectly, and the fries were amazing). We had great service and enjoyed every minute of our time there.

We ate at Fish & Farm twice in 2010 and have fond memories of excellent meals. While in San Francisco last week we wanted to revisit, but it was very disappointing. Whatever transition occurred when they moved to the new location, as a result they lost the grace and culinary excellence they once had. It is now only mediocre. It was clean and the service fair, but the food was utterly uninspired, and so only warrants 2 stars.

The only things that didn’t suck about this experience were the drinks, but I think that opinion was primarily driven by poor service.

- My waiter took his sweet time getting to me for every single interaction, despite the fact that I was extremely definitive in what my dining choices were at each interaction.

- he got my order wrong (wrong dish entirely)

- I had to cancel my dessert order because it took so long (15 minutes with nothing on the table, 5 of that with an empty drink in front of me). His response was to tell me that I should inform him next time if I was in a hurry, as if there was going to be a ‘next time’.

- entree: the tuna was cooked beautifully, but the cook had never learned to snap the tough ends off the asparagus underneath the tuna, so I spent the first couple minutes of dinner separating the kindling from the stuff I could actually eat. Beyond that, it was just a pile of grilled asparagus with a piece of tuna on top, drowning in a pool of seasoned oil - i left hungry & uninspired.

You could chalk this up to me being impatient & picky, but note that this is maybe the second time in my entire time using OpenTable that I’ve written a negative review; my threshold for enjoyment is low and my threshold for active irritation is high.

Definitely didn’t live up to the reputation / expectation.

The server was competent and friendly but the kitchen was very slow and the food was poorly prepared. The oysters were very good but the fish and chips were very undercooked; probably frozen and then thrown in the french frier. The server ended up comping us for one order and the manager came over and all but it was not a good eating experience.

Great location just across the street from Punch Line where we had tickets to see the show. We only had an hour, and Victoria ( hostess) made sure everything was served the way we ordered without delay but not rushed. Food was excellent, and Victoria with her easygoing, friendly but still very professional attitude made our experience even more enjoyable!

Fish & Farm is traditional elevated comfort American food at its best. Great for groups and families of all ages w/kids and for people with different tastes, as it includes items that range from seafood to meat to vegetarian to pizza. good for families as well as if you just want to sit at the bar and watch the game. I recommend to anyone who doesn't want to be in a place that is super loud or difficult to find a place to sit. I'll be back there in the future.

I left thinking, "When there are so many great restaurants in this area, why did I waste my time and money here?" The food was average and the service was a disaster from the minute we walked in. The reviews below describing numerous complaints about indifferent and downright bad service are worth paying attention to. So are the comments about the weird EDF dance music, which is not only too loud but a complete mismatch to the decor of the restaurant. Won't be back.

I picked this place because it was close to the Gateway Theatre and the food and service were both excellent. I told the server when we ordered that we had to be paying the check by 7:30 to make the show and at 7:25 he appeared with the check and reminder of the time. We were having such a good time we had lost track! I'll definitely be back.

Food was just ok. Dance music was a strange choice for early in the evening and during our meal was cranked up making it difficult to talk. When I ordered a gin/tonic and asked for specific options the server couldn't provide the information and wouldn't offer to find out... thought this was odd. We ordered two appetizers and didn't plan on sharing but they split them anyway. Again sort of odd. It was pricey and not worth it as there are much better options in the city for the price.

The grilled squid appetizer was bright and fresh, its texture perfectly chewy, and the smoke of the grill is a perfect foil to the tangy vinaigrette. A must-try dish. The cooked vegetables disappointed, overcooked and oversalted in equal measure.

This place was close our hotel so we decided to give it a try. We walked up to an empty restaurant (which we should have taken as a sign), but saw signs for some fairly priced happy hour drinks and were mostly looking for oysters and dungeness crab, which this place had so we decided to stay.

In our first interaction with the server, my friend inquired as to whether or not the Dungeness crab was local, to which he responded, “God, I hope not”. Confused we both looked at him a little dumbfounded since San Francisco is well known for its proximity to California Coastal areas where Dungeness crab is caught, and also the crass attitude of his response. He followed with, “you don’t want to eat anything out of the San Francisco Bay”. I gave him the benefit of the doubt that maybe there was just a misunderstanding about the interpretation of local and proceeded to order the Dungeness crab cakes and oysters. Turns out, they were also sold out of oysters which we were told that they ordered 500 yesterday and sold through all of them in 2 days. By my math that would be over 80 orders of oysters in 2 days—and this place was completely deserted at 7PM on a weekend. Maybe true, but I have a hard time believing it.

Since those were the two things we were looking for and they were out of one and gave a very indirect answer about the other—we decided to leave. On the way out I mentioned that we were really looking for some oysters (so that we weren’t just abandoning the restaurant with no explanation) to which the waiter shrugged and replied that we should be prepared to spend $3-5 each anywhere else. Okay.

To summarize, there’s a waiter here with an attitude, obviously an issue with keeping food in stock and very little ambiance. This may be a place to sit at the bar and grab a cheap drink, but I wouldn’t recommend it for much of anything else

Food and service was good. The only negative for me is that there were TV screens at the bar, which can be a bit distracting. The volume was turned off (closed caption on), but sometimes it's hard for guys to ignore and turn away. The Warriors game was on, so I only had 1/2 of hubby's attention. (Our table faced the bar.) Other than that, it was a nice dinner.
