First Flight Island Restaurant and Brewery is located in the home of Pan Americans office, where the first American international flight ticket Key West- Havana, Cuba was bought on October 28th 1927. The restaurant features a beautiful garden dining area nestled under the canopies of 2 Strangler Figs, an inside dining room with Pan American memorabilia and an indoor- outdoor crash bar made from an airplane wing.This is also the birthplace of the Southernmost Brewery in the States where 3 flagship and seasonal beers are made by Brewmaster Andrew Koennecke. The restaurant menu focuses on locally sourced seafood, house brew braised dishes and fresh seasonal ingredients. The menu changes throughout the year by Executive Chef Ben Schneller who supplements tradition with an island twist.

                                                                            This was our second experience at First Flight and neither has been stellar. We decided to try it last night after not having been there for a few years. We were seated in the beer garden. First, there was a wedding going on upstairs (open air) with a very LOUD dj. Second, there was a large fan blowing right onto our table. They turned it off when asked. It was an already cool evening. Third, we both ordered the seafood fettuccine with alfredo sauce. I asked for mine without the fish and told the waiter that I really don’t like fish. When it came, the “alfredo” was a thin, very fishy tasting broth. I really don’t like fish (but really like shrimp and clams), but couldn’t eat it. My husband likes fish and agreed that it was very fishy. The waiter was very gracious and took mine off of the bill. We also had the wedge salad which was plentiful and excellent. We would go again, but I would not order that same dish.

Appetizer of deviled eggs with beer battered jalapeños was unique & tasty, Catch of the Day was grouper of which my husband enjoyed very much. The filet was outstanding and perfectly cooked as requested for well done. Great service. Nice happy hour food & drink selections. Highly recommend this restaurant!
