Delicious food, drinks and service!
I had read a lot of good reviews for Firebox Restaurant, but I was disappointed when we went Sat 10/19/19. Our server was terrible. We had to ask other servers to call her over to our table several times to refresh our drinks. We were looking around for her at one point, and she was behind the bar helping the bartender empty the dishwasher (there was a second bartender behind the bar, so I don't think she needed to be there). I ordered the duck, and it came to the table just barely lukewarm. The fat cap had not been seared to a crisp and the skin had been removed. It was just a fatty tepid piece of chewy duck. The polenta served with it was absolutely tops, and I wished I'd had a plate of that for dinner! The appetizers were also delicious...we had mussels, cheese board, and oysters. If you're going to the Bushnell, it's certainly convenient, but the place completely cleared out at 8PM when the theater goers left. That spoiled the ambience for me. I might try it one more time, because all restaurants have bad nights, but I am dubious.
Birthday dinner for sister was fantastic!
Really liked the vibe and history of place. Our night was made special by our server Amanda who went above and beyond for my daughters birthday. She even sang happy birthday. Everything else was ok but liked the history of the building as a forge and our server best. Thank you Amanda!! You will make a great nurse!
A good choice for a pre-Bushnell Performing Arts Center dinner.
We had a very disappointing experience at Firebox. Although we arrived early and the restaurant was quiet, dinner took over 2 hours. The waitress was basically absent for the entire meal, only stopping by once or twice. We waited over 45 minutes from appetizer ( only 1 app for table to share) until dinners were finally served . Never an explanation or apology from the server, she didn't even serve our meals . Waiting such a long time between courses ,we deserved an explanation and Apology. Although we ordered dessert we finally cancelled it, again waiting 20 minutes for a slice of cake is Not reasonable. To be clear, I frequently noticed our waitress standing in the hall chatting and not attending to her tables. Overall, it was a very Disappointing night and I place the blame on a very inattentive, unorganized server. Not sure how soon I will return, the restaurant has great food but if the service lacks why bother??
Excellent food and brilliant service. Couldn’t fault this restaurant.
Alison our wait person was Awesome.
The restaurant’s Manager was great. We will go there again and again.
Amazing service and food!! Everytime i go it gets better
Food amazing as always. I wonder if they were fully staffed because our drinks came very late (waitress said she assumed we wanted them with the meal...did not even come until after the salad came and we inquired. 🙄). We also waited 15 minutes between Two courses. The place was very full on a Friday night.
We found Firebox to be just what we wanted--very nice décor and atmosphere, very good food and friendly and prompt service.
Fantastic every time I go. Food is unusual, fresh and very creative.
I've been to Firebox previously and knew that it would be ideal for a business lunch with out-of-town vendors. Firebox did not disappoint. Everyone enjoyed the eclectic menu, food choices, and atmosphere. Looking forward to return visits.
Delicious but the lighting in the back room could be improved. Also, we missed bread! If it is available upon request, would you alert us to that?
The food was outstanding. I loved the space and our waitress was one of the best I've ever had!
The food was exceptional. Portions were perfect (not too big). Everything was fresh. We were a group of 5 and everyone ate every morsel of our tasty meals. Service was attentive but not bothersome. We will be back!
Went for "sunday supper"... as always, I LOVE Firebox. Perfect drinks, wonderful wine list by the glass, and inventive locally sourced food.... cannot wait to return.
Everything what I was expecting. From service to food, they were marvelous. Waitress was amazing and she knew what to recommend. The dessert was to die for.
Food was really good. Service was good. Slightly expensive place for dinner but food was great and probably worth it. Very fresh food farm to table.
This is our second time to Firebox, and it did not disappoint. The food is delicious. Service was a touch slow, but that really was not an issue at all - all staff are friendly and helpful. The restaurant is a gem. I only wish they would serve wild salmon as opposed to farmed salmon - despite being billed as "organic". I highly recommend coming here if you are passing through Hartford or if you live thee and haven't tried Firefox yet.
Excellent flavorful food, great drinks, attentive staff and an outdoor patio. Would absolutely go again.
Love the concept of using profits to give back to the community, help the homeless, educate and provide a farmers market to help the community. The owner was so friendly and accommodating, as was the staff. And, yes, in case you were wondering, the roasted Brussel sprouts were TO DIE FOR! In fact, all of the food was excellent! And I highly recommend the martini with Prosecco!
Excellent experience, can order moderate priced light fare to full menu of quality items
We went for a cooler summer sunday brunch so it was quiet and a really nice atmosphere. Service was attentive and the food was very good. We really enjoyed the breakfast bread. I especially enjoyed the hashbrowns and the "Wide Awake" cocktail.
Not sure if it was an off night, but after getting water, our server said he’d be back in “a couple minutes” for our drink order. It was actually 15 minutes before he returned and he was somehow surprised that by that point we were ready to order our drinks, appetizer, and meals. The service never improved, we had to ask for certain things twice, then when our dinner finally arrived over an hour after we were seated, it was just luke warm. This was a disappointing, and at times, frustrating experience.
The food was excellent and so was the service.
The service was outstanding and the food was top notch. We had amazing drinks. The server sold my fiancé on swordfish which she had never had before and she had the cleanest plate I’ve ever seen. Highly recommend. The only slightly disappointing thing was it was a little pricier than expected but still not as bad as some other places could be.
Great service, great meal, great experience! I hadn't been to Firebox for a few years, and before only for lunch.
This was an excellent meal! All 4 of us greatly enjoyed our meals and the farm-to-table experience. Two of us had Striper (catch of he day), one had the Salmon and the fourth had Scallops. Everyone was happy! I thought the price was a little high, but these were excellent meals, prepared creatively and with care!
Great menu. Fresh food. Timely service. The salmon was amazing, and cooked to perfection!
One of our select go-to choices in Hartford and Glastonbury.
Great outdoor dining for brunch.
Excellent food and service. We arrived early for our reservation and staff were very accommodating. Our dinner was exceptional
Bring back a real tavern menu....difficult to recommend my favorite restaurant without more small plates, shareables. Was surprised that in the late afternoon or for happy hour they only had a lunch menu for food options.
Our waiter, Jorge, was very friendly and informative. Service was attentive and prompt. Our food was very good - steak tacos, bacon Benedict, and home fries. We were glad we stopped in as we were passing through the area.
We've been here for brunch twice and both times have been great! They have excellent food and cocktails. Will certainly come back.
Another wonderful dining experience and meal. We celebrated my daughters birthday, they brought complimentary champagne and we had the best waitress 😊.
They currently have a “Taste of Hartford” special menu with salad or soup, entree of your choice and dessert for $30. It was amazing. Wonderfully prepared and served.
We always enjoy eating here for the food quality, customer service, ambiance, and restaurant mission. We reserved a table on Open Table and got right in.
We hope to bring our extended family here on their next visit.
Went for Taste of Hartford, several great options on the menu. Had a great meal!
Outstanding food. Absolutely fresh salad...one of the best I have ever eaten. My ravioli dish was excellent. And the dessert ...the rhubarb cake...was wonderful. i especially enjoyed the rhubarb and peach cocktail. All seven people in my party was 100% very, very happy about their meals. The service was attentive, polite, and very efficient. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and answered our questions. The head chef took time to come to our table to speak with us. Everyone wants to return soon. Thank you for an outstanding evening.
Even though we arrived late (after the theater - it’s walking distance from the Bushnell) the service was great and the food was really excellent
Friendly, accomodating and knowledgeable staff. Good food at reasonable prices. Only critique would be more brunch options
