FIG & OLIVE Chicago Ratings and Reviews
We were told about this place from friends who live in Chicago as we do not. It was genuinely my favorite place we visited on our entire three day weekend. We had vegetarians in our group along with people who love steak and others in between and everyone had an incredible meal and experience. The service too was impeccable as was the atmosphere. I highly recommend this place.
It was an adorable place with great service, but man the food was just so “meh”. I ordered steak frites because the waiter highly recommended it, and it was basically a crappy steak and soggy fries with oily sauces. The desert however, was un-freaking-real. I’d go back just for that cake!
This was our 3rd time to dine at Fig.. and our most disappointing. Tables were just TO CLOSE to each other to the point that we overheard the next tables conversation, and that made it very hard for us to enjoy our conversation or dining experience. We have recommended this to friends in the past but don’t think I would again after this experience. Also as the night got busier our service declined. We have always looked forward to dining at Fig & Olive, but this did not meet our past experiences.
Fig and olive was an upscale lite meditterean inspired restaurant with a slightly formal to upscale casual crowd. Meals were on the smaller side but excellently prepared and appropriate. The crustinis were perfectly balanced and worth the experience. Watch out for up charges as I opted for spinach in my penne with mushrooms for extra $9. Also, I didn't notice that the tip was added in and tipped an absorbent amount as this is not the norm in the Chicago area.
Love the vibe here sitting in the lounge couches where you can get full services still. Rose old fashioned cocktail was delicious as were the golden beets tapas. Very large Fig and Olive salad lacked any real flavor and was really disappointing for a signature dish. Shrimp fettuccine was good but why not fully peel the shrimp before serving, especially with dim lighting? Service was first class all around.
I wanted to have a nice dinner in a beautiful place for my birthday. Fig and Olive did not disappoint. From the attentiveness of my server, Mason, to the delicious and beautifully prepared food and drinks to the ambiance, F&O hit all of the right notes and made my day a memorable one! SN: it waa quieter because of the weekday...ive been on a weekend where it was a little more noisy because they also had a dj spinning. Still, it wasnt so loud that one couldnt have a conversation.
This was our second time at Fig and Olive....love the location and ambiance for this place. However, the only thing this restaurant could do a little better is service. We ordered an additional item and it never arrived. The waiter could have been on top of things and followed up to make sure we have everything we needed.
Fig & Olive is one of my favorite Chicago restaurants. The staff is excellent-and on this visit our waiter Joe was outstanding. He was attentive without being intrusive and well versed on the items on the menu. I was able to get my “favorite table” which was wonderful since I was entertaining my sister who lives out of state. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Our grandchildren ages 16 and 12 ordered special drinks that the waiter suggested. He then refilled the drinks 3 times without our grandchildren or us requesting it. We thought he was being nice because of the holiday season ... call us naive!. When the bill arrived the portion of the non alcoholic drinks was close to $60.00. When we brought this to the attention of the waiter he became very rude and threw the final bill on the table. We live close to the restaurant and eat there frequently. We were extremely disappointed with our service and how rude the waiter was. There is no question that he was trying to pad the bill as my husband and I don’t drink alcohol.
We had another great experience at Fig & Olive in Chicago. We previously had a tremendous meal at the New York Midtown location, and our experience in Chicago was equally amazing. A drink that was not as expected was quickly exchanged. The crostini was inventive and savory. The carrot ginger soup was the deepest, richest vegetarian dish I can remember enjoying. The risotto with scallops was absolutely delicious. I had no room for desert after that. We will definitely return to Fig & Olive in the future.
What a view! Get a window table and see the gentle madness of Oak/Rush street shopping. Great food. Our waiter was kind enough to make a lemonade not otherwise on the menu for our nine year old....and if that was not enough to have us 'sold', he even threw in a complimentary dessert. Mimosas, made with real champagne!
The ambiance is fantastic. Love the openness and brightness of the space. We were there for brunch and the food quality and taste was good but everything came out cold. Not luke warm, cold. And unfortunately, our server was very nice but never came to check on us so we couldn’t tell her. It is pricey for what you’re getting, especially when it is subpar. The drinks were fantastic as well as the crositinis (no issue there as they are meant to be cold 😉) it’s worth a visit, but maybe not a second one.
