Fig 313 has just opened for our Sunday Brunch!

Built in 1927, Fig313 stands today as an original historical landmark of San Clemente, with a history that is meant to be shared with its seaside community. Carefully constructed in the Spanish Colonial Revival style, distinctive design features include red-tile roofs, white stucco walls, hand-crafted windows and arches, painted tiles, and open-air courtyards.

Originally owned for the first 33 years by John and Jeanette Riley, 313 El Camino Real was renowned as Riley’s Waffle and Coffee Shop. Legend has it that actor John Wayne frequented the restaurant for a hearty American breakfast along with many travelers from all over the world. From 1960 on, Riley’s Café would change ownership many times, evolving into a furniture store, French restaurant, tequila company, and catering business. In 2012, the current owners purchased the property and began renovations and restoration, while staying true to the integrity of the original style.

Great ambiance, amazing patio with gas lamps and Fire pit. Food is beautifully plated and tasty. My favorites are, beet salad with orange dressing, sweet oranges and walnuts, flamed calamari and wild sea bass. Totally guilt free dining for any dieter’s preference. Very clean food, You can taste the freshness. So many more exiting dishes to try. I have to mention the homemade chocolate cake with mascarpone cream.
Weekends are busy I couldn’t get a table for some time. So booked weekday and was great !!

Service was excellent and outdoor patio ambiance lovely. The food is delicious, although portions, for the price, we felt were a bit small. The fig salad is a must try! The 1/2 lobster was so good but at best, 4 bites of lobster and for $45 was very overpriced. Could improve the quality of the coffee, serving it fresh and hot. All in all a wonderful leisurely and relaxing experience!
Since this visit was a generous gift from our son for grandma babysitting hours, we were a bit more extravagant than usual. We look forward to our next reservation but will have to rebuild the babysitting account a bit first and try other offerings from the menu.
Absolutely recommend this for a lovely evening and wish they would reopen for brunch.

We have been to Fig several times before, but this will be our last visit. I specifically requested we visit Fig tonight for one of their signature dishes, the Seafood Melange. I have always enjoyed the generous serving of mussels, shrimp and the large langostino that topped this cioppino-style dish. Unfortunately, the dish is now served with no langostino, much fewer mussels and the addition of couscous...but at the same $45 price tag. When I inquired as to why the large servings of shell fish had been eliminated, the manager tried to tell me the chef likes to make sure only the freshest seafood is used, but it was clear that the restaurant is cutting corners on the quality while overpricing the meals. Obviously, the seafood restaurant down on the pier doesn't have a problem ensuring fresh seafood is available on a daily basis so I question why the chef at Fig is encountering such problems.

Sadly, this wasn't the only dish where we noticed significant and disappointing changes - we also ordered the calamari, a dish we had at Fig three weeks ago. When we had it the first time, it was a generous-sized platter of tempura style calamari. Tonight, we ordered it again but tonight the calamari was about 1/2 the amount of calamari compared to the prior dish, and it was served sauteed with cauliflower to make the dish appear more substantial. We felt that many of the dishes on the menu retained the same names, but the ingredients and serving size were significantly less than in the recent past.

I hope the owner realizes that customers are smart enough to recognize the diminished quality in the dishes is not about the chef's desire for only the freshest seafood, but much more about the owner's desire to cut costs. The most disappointing aspect was that the server never explained to us that there had been significant changes in the dishes on the menu - had I known, I would not have chosen to spend $45 on 5 mussels, 3 pieces of shrimp and chunks of baked fish on couscous.

Hello Kaitlyn, thank you for taking a moment to review our establishment. In regards to our melange, the menu states to refer to your server for detail as the seafood selection changes daily. On that day, we had used less shellfish in return of a more generous portion of wild caught halibut seabass and salmon. The calamari portions have not changed. The "Fried Calamari" is puffy, whereas the "Flame Calamari" is sautéed. Everything is clearly explained on the menu, with name changes accordingly.

Fig@313 is one of our favorite restaurants in San Clemente.
The outdoor seating area is a real plus for ambiance. Our server was great!
We haven’t been to restaurants in quite a while because of the pandemic. My wife and I were surprised about the pricing. The food was amazing as always but we thought the pricing was higher than our previous visits. A NY Prime Strip steak for $52? Other than Vine, down the street, we haven’t seen this kind of pricing elsewhere in San Clemente.
For us, Fig@313 will probably now become a restaurant for special occasions rather than everyday dining.

Had a wonderful meal with friends after a day at the beach and to celebrate some birthdays. We needed to add a person last minute and they were incredibly accommodating. The outdoor patio is wonderful and the food was amazing! Be prepared to spend some $$ but we were excited for a night out and it was so worth it. Definitely recommend!

This was my second time at your restaurant with my Marine Corp son. We came with my daughter and husband this time. Chris was our server, and he was attentive, professional, helpful, and funny, and he made our experience over the top!! The fresh choices and creative menu options made for interesting conversation!! We all highly recommend your restaurant, Chris, the Calamari starter, the Beet salad, the Tomato and Burrata salad, and the steak. We had other items as well, including dessert, and everything was outstanding!!! Thank you so much! Can’t wait to see you all again!! 💕

We were really impressed with Fig 313. The menu, staff, and ambiance were excellent especially with the challenges of outside dining as the only option. Every item we ordered was delicious, fresh, unique, and delicious. Highly recommend and we will be dining there again soon!

The menu changes are based on the season, to provide fresh and never frozen healthier dining options. We hope diners come back for new dining experiences. Dishes that may not be on the menu now will be coming back periodically according to the season.

Ambience was great and service spot on. However the food was... good not great. Ordered the surf and turf special, steak was cooked perfectly but under seasoned. Dessert was cake that was more dry than I prefer. When we got the bill it was disappointing to see we were charged $46 for steak and $18 for added scallops. Not sure I’d call that surf and turf? Price didn’t match portion.

Fig’s beautiful patio is such a delicious place to spend a warm, summer evening. Our waiter was very attentive without rushing our meal. He was also knowledgeable about the menu. It was the perfect way to treat our visiting daughter who is a teacher in the time of Covid.

Seabass was cooked to perfection. My favorite cocktail of the evening was Passion Flower. Our server Chris was charismatic and attentive with our drinks & food. We made an online reservation for 5:30p and were promptly seated when we arrived. We parked on the street behind and walked down the stairs (it has a sign "Fig @ 313" at top of stairs). Would recommend for a pleasant date night or anniversary. The patio is beautiful and the food is excellent.

We were pleasantly surprised with how great our experience was while celebrating our anniversary at Fig 313. From the ambiance, lighting, lush foliage, outstanding service (ask for Adam). The food was unbelievable and extremely fresh seafood and the fillet also outstanding. I highly recommend trying it out. You won’t be disappointed!

Beautiful outside patio, lit for a romantic evening, fountain flowing and fire pit blazing. Waiter Chris was perfect. Knew the menu inside and out, gave great recommendations and we enjoyed our meal immensely The seafood melange was delish!

Delicious food, amazing ambience, and very caring staff. We arrived on time but had to wait for our table, we were offered a complimentary glass of wine while we waited which was lovely! Highly recommend the cocktails and the lobster ravioli. Perfect place for a date night or night out with girlfriends.

The food was excellent and the service was really good. We had a little sun in our face initially, but once it dropped below the building next door the atmosphere was much more pleasant. Overall the experience was great having dinner with my brother and sister in law. We also like to support our local businesses!
