Fat Tuna Grille & Oyster House
Server was good. The food we had was good, but two listed wines were not available and the main I wanted was gone (maybe it was never there?). Oysters were very good and the shrimp po’boy was excellent. Had a good meal there previously. Disappointed that it measured up to our first visit.
Wonderful choice for a birthday dinner! Delicious food and drink, attentive staff, and reasonable prices.
We will be back soon!
We were promptly seated. Our meals were Cod and Flounder lightly breaded and fried. Each dish came with fries and a veggie. I had green beans, my better half had broccoli and green beens. Love the corn bread and hush puppies! Great job on the tasty food! Service was friendly. Overall, we continue to be impressed with Fat Tuna, highly recommend.
Excellent service, Joyce our server was amazing. The oysters and clams were super fresh, the scallops were awesome.
Service was horrible! Getting refills on drinks was almost impossible. Server rarely came to check on the table. Said something to the host and his response was “we’re busy”. Unacceptable answer! Have eaten here a couple of times before without any problems. We were dining with 3 other people who had never been. They loved the food and atmosphere but they also agreed the service was awful.
Oysters were fantastic ! Love Sesame tuna .
I could of done without looking at the head of my husband’s red snapper ! 😳
Great food, great service! The sitting at bar to eat !
Everything was good. I had the fried calamari and oyster po-boy sandwich. Highly recommend.
Restaurant sat us almost immediately even though we were an hour earlier than our reservation time. Excellent service from our server Joyce. Kept our drinks topped off and checked back often to make sure we had everything we needed. Server made a recommendation to our daughter looking for sushi. My daughter loved what she ordered. I couldn’t resist the fried shrimp. Some of the best fried shrimp I’ve ever tasted. Piping hot with just a light dusting of breading. Hubby loved his grilled tuna with mango salsa topping. Only complaint is that the tables are MUCH too close to each other. We could understand full conversations of surrounding tables. Not the ideal dining experience. But the excellent food and service outweighed this inconvenience. We will return!
Great food and awesome service! We would go back again.
I enjoyed the environment of the restaurant. There was a lot of cool artwork and different lights. The food was really good - huge, juicy scallops; fresh, local, and cheap oysters; and hot, tasty cornbread really set the dinner off right. I would go back.
This was one of the few places open in Williamsburg on Christmas Day. The atmosphere was more ‘diner’ casual than we expected and menu was more pub style. Good crab cake sandwich.
The restaurant was busy as it was Christmas Day
The staff was very friendly and helpful with explaining the dishes on the menu
The server Nazli was excellent in all ways
The staff worked so hard to accommodate all the guests that were waiting
Fresh seafood that was great. My wife had flounder while I had shrimp, oysters and clams. I also had the baked macaroni and cheese which was surprisingly good. Would definitely go back.
My dining experience was on Christmas Day and the restaurant was very busy. Maybe on another day it would have been average but I doubt it would ever be above average.
Lovely looking restaurant great food and staff server Nazli brilliant can not say anymore just out of this world
First time visit and very glad we made this choice. Easy access, comfortable seating, quality food choices and excellent service from Julia.
Since we all love seafood this was a good choice. The fried oysters were delicious, not overly cooked. The seafood platter contained shrimp, oysters, flounder and scallops and contained enough to share. Our server was attentive, quickly serving us hush puppies and corn muffins when we were seated. I would highly recommend this restaurant if you enjoy seafood.
Great oysters, great selection, great beer!
My friend and I have visited fat tuna twice now and both times have been awesome. The she crab soup is filled with crab and a delightful addition of Sherry. You were greeted with a plate of hush puppies and corn muffins. I can’t seem to get past ordering the fried oyster basket as they are absolutely delicious and served with a very tasty coleslaw and fries. My friend ordered the gumbo and enjoyed every single bite. I travel from near Blackstone Virginia and while the ride is long, it is well worth the visit.
Good food. Rustic preparation.
Each of us enjoyed our lunch. Sandwiches (3) were very good, and the salmon salad was a really good choice. Wish you were I. Richmond, too!
This was our 2nd time and the food was just as good as the 1st, excellent experience!
Nothing special to write about. Just an average restaurant. I would go back. Nothing bad but nothing outstanding either.
Jon my waiter was exceptional and the sped of service was above par. Alas my fish was not cooked to my order although the mahi mahi was tasty I like my fish well done and firm. A similar issue with my Creme brûlé came out cold. Usually there is a warm feel
To the top layer as it has been torched to glass the brown sugar. That was not done so I had a firm cold chewy desert. I will try them one more Ike and sweet of the food can up to the level of service you give.
Best fried and broiled seafood. Good seafood bisque with plenty of seafood. I like that corn muffins and hush puppies are included and plentiful; some restaurants do not serve these with seafood. Beer selection was good.
Nice family dinner of ten adults.
Great place for outstanding seafood selections. Service is excellent and staff are friendly. Nearly always full during peak times so recommend making reservations
I chose to go to Fat Tuna because it was highly recommended by tripadvisor. I found it to be just okay. The crab cakes are not like Maryland Crab cakes. They were good but not great. Lobster was on the tough side. I was disappointed that the mashed potatoes were only lukewarm as well as the green beans.
Rushed atmosphere with inexperienced waiters serving above average food. Shrimp and cheesy grits were very good!
The food was delicious. They advertise heavily in the tourist brochures so I was a bit worried but trip advisor gave them high marks. We ate early and it was pretty busy at 5! Food was fabulous! Our seafood was cooked prefect! I’d differently go back!
The food was delicious, ample portions. We all had seafood--broiled platter, fried shrimp, flounder, salmon, tuna etc. Our waitress Rose handled our party of 8 extremely well. Top notch service.
Food was fine. Hosts were fine. Ambiance was nice. Location great. Waitress rude and disrespectful. Didn’t bring water. Forgot our bread. We asked for no peppers in Calamari but they came with peppers. My kids we’re celebrating their birthday and nothing special for them or an offer and lastly we had a spill at the table and the waitress told us to clean it up ourselves.
Wonderful variety of choices and all meals were stellar!
Great choice for a last minute meal. Kremena, our server, was fantastic -- personable, helpful, a delight.
Was pleasantly surprised at how good the food was here.... from the homemade corn bread to the AMAZING hush puppies to start with, to my coconut shrimp (my husband said it was the best he has ever had and he is super picky!!) to my Grouper Reuben...it was all delicious! Our server was great! The place was packed! Highly recommended!
Always enjoy this restaurant but wow, is it noisy! Have to turn off my hearing aids.
I got the sample platter. The green beans, scallops and shrimp were good. The mashed potatoes were OK, but a little dryer than I prefer. The fish was bland and the crab cake, which I was looking forward to, was not only small, but did not taste right. I would compare the experience to Red Lobster, but a lot more expensive.
Great seafood menu. Only issue was the tuna and oysters Rockefeller were both on the underdone side.
Enjoyable evening out. Very pleasant and efficient waiter-Sergiu. Enjoyed salad, halibut and swordfish. For some reason, we did have to wait a long time for our entrees. No reason for the delay given but our waiter kept trying to find out. The meals were tasty. Will return next time we are in the area.
My mother's flounder was not cooked. She ate literally two bites of it before saying something was wrong, and quite frankly I had been watching and could see across from her it had a very wet, mealy texture. We informed the waitress when she appeared who told us the fish went into the fryer at the same time as my oysters (not sure what that has to do with anything.) She just looked vacant when we said okay, well, this is raw and we can't eat it. "Yeah, uh, sorry?" was her response. She offered to fry another flounder, but because I was already finished and my mom had literally lost her appetite from the gummy puddle on her plate, we said no thanks. She took away the plates and brought the check, and charged us full price for the raw, uneaten flounder. When I questioned her about this, she walked about 20 feet away and whispered and pointed at us with an older man, then returned to our table with $3 off the $40 bill. It was an absolute joke. The food was inedible and rather than have the manager come talk to us, they give us $3 off. We just laughed and left - what a low-class facility.
(For the record, I have never complained, or written a review before. Quite frankly food has to be TERRIBLE for us not to at least make some polite comment about it, even if it wasn't very good. It's like this place thinks they did a great job, and you're wrong - even if you're not. Ridiculous.)
Fat Tuna is an excellent restaurant close to Colonial Williamsburg and William & Mary. The seafood is top of the line and this restaurant really knows its quality. The She Crab Soup was delicious, along with the special sushi rolls, crab cakes and grilled fish which were top notch. If you are in Williamsburg and want excellent seafood for really reasonable prices, Fat Tuna is the place for you.
