   The service was extraordinary. Our waitress was amazing, but the restaurant didn’t live up to the reviews. There was dirty silverware and dirty glassware. The appetizers were unremarkable, they even refunded one of the options. The main courses were heavy and soulless. I hope they can turn this place around , it could be great, but we did feel like we were on a reality TV show where the kitchen is a mess.

   We had a special 3 course prix fixe menu for Valentnes day. That lined us up for 3 courses when we might have settled for 2. A salmon crudo with horseradish panna cota might have sounded affected, but it was a wonderfully flavored primo course. Secondis built around herbally sauced funghi and creamy shrimp with gnocchi were rewarding and plentiful. We both ordered the extra price Wagyu filet which lived up to its promise on a bed of seared greens. Desserts were light and innovative. Our choices of flanand a pudding with ice cream werea perfect ending to our great meals.

   A terrific evening on Tuesday, many course of food and two bottles of red wine, and our server Brian was terrific!

   The overall experience was fine. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The food - especially the swordfish- was very good as were the appetizers. However, we felt rushed. We were not asked if we wanted a second drink. We were still working on our meal when we were asked if we wanted a box to go. We were not asked for coffee or dessert.

   Very quaint restaurant with a tasty menu. We had a great time. Mangement acted as a host to our dining experience. Good job!

   This is a truly great restaurant! The food is on the highest level of taste and imagination. If this was in NY it would probably be twice as expensive and not nearly as good. I've had the quail with rhubarb and it's out of this world and I just had the shrimp and gnocchi and couldn't believe how good it was . So lucky to have Fat Hen in Somerville!

    We had an ok experience at Fat Hen. We chose to go there to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We made a reservation for 7:00pm (the restaurant requires a credit card for reservations and threatens a $25 per person fee for no-shows and cancellations less that 24 hours in advance). We showed up exactly on time, but there were no staff members in front when we arrived. The restaurant was nearly empty with just one couple dining. We waited several minutes to be greeted and seated. Once seated, our server was friendly and accommodating, and the atmosphere was intimate and pleasant. However, we were disappointed by the food which was mediocre. We ordered three appetizers and two entrees. The burrata dish was under seasoned and watery - the charred lettuce had the same issues; the pork with candied strawberries was inventive but still only ok. My veal was dry and tough, and my husband’s short ribs were just alright. Fat Hen’s menu changes seasonally, so it’s possible that the current menu is just a dud - but we had been expecting a delicious meal, and so we were disappointed.
