We celebrated a birthday at Zuzu this past Saturday night with a party of 8, and I can't say enough good things about this downtown Detroit restaurant. Having made our reservation a full month in advance, we knew we were in for something special – and Zuzu absolutely delivered. From the moment we arrived, everything was seamless. The valet parking made our evening stress-free, which is always appreciated when dining downtown with a larger group. But what truly made the night memorable was the exceptional service and absolutely incredible food. We decided to order family style to maximize our opportunity to explore the menu, and I'm so glad we did. Honestly, there wasn't a single dish that disappointed – every item was a winner. The kitchen clearly takes pride in their craft, and it shows in every bite. What impressed me even more was how accommodating they were for dietary restrictions. One member of our party follows a gluten-free diet, and the staff was knowledgeable and helpful in ensuring there were plenty of delicious options available. No one felt left out or limited in their choices. This is easily a 10 out of 10 experience, and we're already planning our return visit. If you're looking for an outstanding dining experience in downtown Detroit, Zuzu should be at the top of your list. Highly recommended for special occasions, date nights, or any time you want to treat yourself to something truly special. Would I recommend? Absolutely – without hesitation! Will I return? Already making plans for our next visit!

Becel & Jack were our waiters and they were phenomenal. We celebrated our anniversary and they went above and beyond to make it special for us. Complimentary Champaign and a beautiful anniversary dessert. The food was top notch. Best tempura shrimp we’ve ever had. The wagyu skewers were 10/10.

⭐️⭐️ We celebrated our 27th wedding anniversary at ZUZU. The ambiance was beautiful, and the service felt attentive. We appreciated the complimentary anniversary dessert and drink sample, and two managers checked in during the meal. The food was solid — the walnut shrimp appetizer was delicious, and my wife enjoyed her New York strip. My roasted chicken was tender, though the sauce was overly sweet. However, the evening ended poorly due to an issue on the bill. The receipt showed a “20% gratuity,” but we were charged $44.80 — more than 22% of our food and tax total. That amount only makes sense if the tip was calculated on a $224 base, which wasn’t shown or explained. I contacted management. They quickly clarified that the gratuity and service charge weren’t double-charged, but they never addressed the inaccurate tip calculation. That lack of transparency was disappointing. Great vibe and food, but guests should check their receipts carefully. The 2 stars are for the lack of response to the miscalculation of tax or incorrect label of tip percentage.
