About this restaurant

  • Neighborhood gem
  • Good for special occasions
  • Charming
Ernesto’s is the acclaimed Basque-inspired restaurant from veteran chef Ryan Bartlow, who has worked at world-renowned restaurants, including Akelarre in Spain, Alinea in Chicago, and Frenchette in New York City. At Ernesto’s — which has been named one of The New York Times ‘best new restaurants’ of the year, among other accolades — Bartlow offers a menu inspired by his years spent cooking and living in the Basque region of Spain, mixing signature traditional dishes with seasonal riffs on classic flavors.

Ernesto's is open for dinner Monday from 5:30-9:30pm and Tuesday-Thursday from 5pm-9:30pm with the kitchen closing at 9:45pm, and Fri-Sat 5pm-10pm with the kitchen closing at 10:30pm. We accept reservations and walk-ins. We take reservations up to two weeks in advance with our books opening at midnight.

**Our outdoor tables are WALK-IN ONLY. Please call on the day of your reservation to check for availability.

Good food. Staff was helpful, but the dining room got cold and windy in the early evening. Noise level is too high

Overall, an excellent evening. Food is different and very good. One caveat, wine list is way over-priced. I mean, way, way over-priced. On such a terrific, big list you need more wines that list for less than $100.

We received a warm welcome at check-in and then again by all the staff working the bar, where we chose to sit. Service is easy-going, yet totally professional and knowledgeable. A special thank you to Liddy, who manages the wines and suggested a wonderful Spanish wine to go with our duck entree. Our 2 appetizers, one with Morels and another with a vegetable called cardos, were seasonal and delicious. The duck with port wine sauce served on whipped potatoes is a standard offering on the menu and was beautifully cooked (pink inside) and served. To start, we split the pintxo matrimonio, 2 incredibly light but crisp pastries each with 2 anchovies 1 white, 1 brown) on top. So good! We especially like that Ernestos does not play loud music in the background. Inside, you can count on the conversation and laughter from happy diners all around. Thank you for a fun evening.

Always excellent! The food, service, ambience… There are many great places to try in NYC but this is one you’ll want to return to, again and again…. It seems to get better & better. Highly recommend.

Food was great! Except it took them 35 mins to seat us for 9pm reservation. There was no acknowledgement of how long it took either so it was pretty annoying.
