Epping's on Eastside
The restaurant occupies a historic building originally built in the early 20th century as the John G. Epping Bottling Plant. Epping's on Eastside is at the corner of downtown Lexington's thriving Warehouse Block.

The menu is creative. Food tastes excellent. Our server is knowledgeable about wine and cocktails and makes good recommendations. Speed of service is slow. But this may be due to understaffing. The worst part of the experience is our interactions with the maitre’D. If it were not for the food and our server, I won’t return
I would hire a saxophonist, or piano 🎹 player for the holidays, it would be a classy move ......
We couldn’t get happy hour at a table and had to move to the bar. Fine, but kind of silly. Same great food at happy hour prices and a great cocktail. Just weird we had to move to the bar. Everyone was very nice about it. Salmon salad was perfect.
Although items are delivered a bit slowly to the table, they are worth the wait!
Given its heritage it was disappointing. The one truly outstanding point was
our server. The food was mediocre and the ambience non existent.
The meat and cheese charcuterie were delicious (especially homemade pastrami). But the olives were served steeped in this vinegar brine that, as if it were possible, overpowered the olives. One orders olives for their salty/bitter deliciousness and getting mouth explosions of vinegar each bite while hardly tasting the olives was a problem. Get rid of the vinegar brine and let the signature flavor speak for itself.
And this latter point appeared more than once in the meal.
For instance, the pickle juice brined fried chicken. Overall, it as pretty good. But they drizzled a sauce over the top of the chicken, and this made part of the crunchy goodness go soggy. The flavor of the sauce was fine, but 1/2 crunchy and 1/2 soggy fried chicken is not really what one is signing up for when they order this dish. e
The other dish was the bone-in pork chop with brussel sprouts. The chop was a generous portion and was cooked decently...that is, was not overdone and dry but was not especially juicy. And it was more warm than it was hot and right off the skillet. I suspected that it waited under a light until the chicken was finished cooking. I enjoyed it, though. The sprouts came with pickled pineapple and chewy (in a good way) bacon bits. The sweet and salty accompanied either other well.
As for the bread pudding, it appeared the chef let an entire loaf of bread soak up the milk, egg, sugar, etc. and then baked it off, as it was served as a slice. The problem was that the loaf only soaked up the milk, only a little egg and sugar. So the dish was missing that custardy goodness one looks for in bread pudding. Second, the dish had the anglaise sort of drizzled on the dish, not generously poured over (and was not very bourbony). Finally, the accompanying candied pecans outcompeted the pudding for flavor and texture. They were more sweet than the pudding (which spiked your tastebuds) and were too large, so the candied pecans dominated your mouth in sweetness and texture.
Eppings food is consistently delicious & well presented.
We sat at a high top & it was a bit noisier on the bar side than on other side.
Servers were very gracious, but there is an entire crew that clear plates, etc. Our waitress was busy & did not come back to check if we’d like another drink. We asked a clearer & few minutes later waitress came by...and about 10 minutes later the drinks arrived.
Our server was exceptional! Very knowledgeable of the menu and specials. Prime rib special was awesome that hubs and I split. Kitchen was very prompt with food. We love Epping's!
Brunch was excellent. Well prepared and fresh food. Plated well. The seating arrangement of the build was well laid out, aesthetically pleasing, lot of window and light. Servers do very well at there job and service. Just a little slower than normal.
We went early for breakfast. We were one of few occupied tables, so it was quiet and easy to chat. The server was polite and efficient. I had the greek quiche which had a good crust and consistency but was bland. I used the very good hot sauce (intended for a companion's eggs) which helped add flavor. Another friend enjoyed his croque madame. The restaurant decor is bright with several dining spaces. The restroom is family friendly. We had a good dining experience.
Our server was great. She had too many tables. They’re only 2 toilets in the entire place. Wtf.
Great food as always! Service too. Consistently good.
Love this place - but I think the lunch menu (especially the salads) are overpriced for what they are.
Also - when we asked for straws for the waters they automatically brought, he brought them to us holding them all over his hands and stuck each one in the glasses.
My grandma has a compromised immune system due to cancer - so we were worried about the unsanitary practice. Perhaps you could bring the container to the table or something ?
On a positive final note, the chicken pozole soup was phenomenal!
Everything was great! We decided to sit at the bar and Brian was amazing!! The food was delicious and the service was awesome! I can't wait to come back.
We enjoyed our evening at Epping's. There was 2 couples at our table. 3 of the 4 of us are on the keto diet and we were able to find many items we could eat on the menu. Everything was delicious!
Our server was knowledgeable and prompt. We will go again.
We are certainly delighted that you found numerous dining options with us, and that our staff is providing the excellent service our guests deserve! Honest feedback from our guests provides us a guide for continued improvement, and is much appreciated. Kind regards, Patrick Harper/General Manager
Sent back an overcooked med rare steak. It was replaced and removed from the bill but served after everyone at the table had already finished their meal. So that person ate alone while the severs were clearing the table. Made the entire dining experience uncomfortable for everyone. We were offered free dessert as well but that wasn’t enough to erase the less than desirable experience. The server did a fine job and was apologetic. It was as though the person who sent back their steak was being punished for doing so by the chef. The food however was very good, the atmosphere there is nice, the server did a good job. We will go back but not for steak due to that experience.
We appreciate the kind words, even after our faux pas regarding your recooked steak. This is certainly not the standard we wish to practice and addressed it accordingly. We do appreciate you giving us another chance, and look forward to hopefully seeing you again soon! Feedback from our guests is crucial to our continued success, and we appreciate your candid feedback. Kind regards, Patrick Harper/General Manager
Gustavo was great. We enjoyed our experience very much
Our server was wonderful... we live Epping’s! A great place for hanging out with good friends. One of our meals was a little late and we were given a complimentary dessert, although we certainly didn’t expect anything. They take care of their patrons.
We had such a great time. I think that we ordered one of everything on the menu and were not disappointed. We had such fun and our wait staff were wonderful. Will be back.
Their blood orange cosmo was incredible. I had 2. My wife had corvina which was cooked perfectly. Many restaurants will try to pass this fish off as “sea bass”. I had the hangar steak and frites. I ordered my steak rare and that is the way it was prepared. It was tender and flavorful. For desert, we enjoyed the persimmon cake which was just like my mom made when I was a kid and we picked our own persimmons. The cake paired well with the paw paw Ice cream which was a surprisingly good treat.
Having eaten at Epping's several times now, I have already placed it on my list of "recommended venues for foodies".
We had a really great experience and I would highly recommend this restaurant.
Fast service & delicious food. Love the light & airy decor.
Celebrated a birthday dinner with 2 others on a Tuesday night at 7:30pm which was not too crowded. We ordered a martini, W 6th amber and another mixed drink. It took some time to arrive. We enjoyed the Bavarian Pretzels appetizer which came promptly. I ordered the bone-in pork chop and another ordered Steak Frites and another Rainbow Trout. We were told the chop and frites took an extended time to prepare. We waited and waited. Another round of drinks...We had ordered a chopped salad which was split with my wife. The salad finally came with our main course, about 45 minutes after we ordered it. It would have been nice to have it before. All of the entree’s were very good although the steak frites were cold. We ordered desert and 30 minutes later we received the chocolate brownie. Also very good but for a 30 minuet wait??? My wife said several times we just need to pay and leave...By the time we paid, the torrential downpours had begun.
Customer service like no other restaurant in lexington! We had reservations at 8 pm and we had to wait about 20 minutes.. we were totally fine however the manager came by twice to apologize and even provided an appetizer! When we were seated our waiter was phenomenal and took great care of us.. to top it off when we received our check each entree had been discounted 50%! Beyond enjoyable evening.. wonderful food and atmosphere!
Great food and service!
The place is super cute. Wait staff was attentive. Our waters always refilled. I didn’t like the bibimbop. It wasn’t good. The fried chicken, meatloaf and beyond burger were great.
Cool place, wonderful design and great food. Def more of a chill place (not super intimate) as it’s well lit and very open concept. Def will be back, the charcuterie board, olive assortment, burger special and steak were all great. Kudos to wonderful server as well.
Food was delicious and the new waitress was outstanding.
Another great meal at my favorite restaurant, Eppings. We each had a sandwich including the special of the day, which was great. Joey our server was outstanding. Thanks again for another wonderful meal.
Service was superb, Albariño delectable, and salmon impeccable. This was my first, but definitely not my last Eppings experience.
Eppings was a wonderful dining experience. Excellent menu, the salmon was amazing, and the service was outstanding. We plan to return often!
Food and drinks were very good. Service also very good. Nice place for high quality food at a decent price in a wonderful, big city atmosphere.
The food and establishment met personal expectations. I liked the space and food very much. The apple pie with vanilla ice cream was super and definitely, shareable. The service was polite but slow. It seemed to take a long while to receive our order. I recommend Epping's to visitors and locals alike.
The service was terrible. The food took over an hour. It was less than expected for the price point. Very disappointed.
The food was very good, especially liked the tomato soup. Appetizers are a little pricey for what you get. The service was pretty good...but I think there was some communication issues with our server. And he didn't come to check on our table of 6 very often. The guests we were with said they usually get very good service when they are seated at the bar. They seated us at a "picnic" type table, and I had a dress on, so it was very hard to get in and out of my seat on a picnic table bench. I would like to come back and probably sit at the bar, if there's only 2 of us, because I think we would get better service. The soup and hummus appetizer were worth coming back for.
The restaurant is very modern- bright and spacious! The menu had a lot of options- I do wish it had at least one more salad option. The deserts were delicious - in fact the gluten free options were the best. We had a n enjoyable evening - in fact we closed down the place- will defiantly be back. Loved the pork chop!
For this price point, there are better options in Lexington. Disappointed in the food. Salty salads? Hanger steak was average at best and looked like it had been sitting under the heat lamp for a while. On the positive side, the fried pickles were fantastic and the meatloaf entree was great. Atmosphere is great, server was very knowledgeable and helpful.
Great service, great food. Get the meatloaf
Average at a higher than average cost. Quality service. Just ok food and drinks.
