About
Built in 1917, the historic building now home to our Santa Monica restaurant was once a transfer station for the narrow-gauge Red Car line, Los Angeles' first mass transit system. It was later the repair house for the world-famous Pacific Ocean Park, home to the oldest wooden roller coaster west of the Mississippi. These days, we're still a stone's throw from Venice Beach, heart of where L.A. goes to play -- and eat.
I had the grilled swordfish and it was excellent. Everyone at my table enjoyed their choices,,,sole, burger sliders. Service was great. Very large open restaurant so some may find a bit noisy but we were able to converse without problem. I would go back and I will Bread is very good and the happy hour prices seam to be a deal.
Lots of seafood on the menu. But also great food for those who may not like seafood. Also there's a car charging station a block away.
I was looking for great fresh seafood and a good atmosphere, but this wasn't really my kind of venue. The portions are quite large, but the food pretty average, verging on bland. It's a big semi- industrial looking restaurant, noisy, big TV screens, big bar.
If you are looking for delicious fresh seafood, delicate flavouring, relaxed but a little classy this is not the place to go. More rowdy and noisy than that.
our waitress was nice but I found her just a little over the top in the 'charm' it just felt put on, with no heart in it. $170 for four of us, one course each. No alcohol, seemed steep for food that was un-memorable... you decide. I'd pay more for something I could recommend, but this place, no, it really did nothing for me. Sorry. wish I could be more positive.
Fabulous as usual. Always a great experience!!
Great food with very ample portions. Everything was fresh and cooked well
Incredible food. The lobster bisque is life changing!
Seems like there is less crab than there used to be.
Party of 4, oyster night, yea baby
We did the happy hour menu, the calamari, mussels and grilled oysters were great, the sliders were overcooked, would skip them next time
Saturday night, super busy, service was pretty slow. Fish and c hips were really good
Enjoyed the ambience and the food was excellent along with our drinks.
Wish it was located with a view of the ocean. Also it's next to a Ronald Reagan museum.
Great selection. Service was outstanding. Polite and pleasant server who was quick and attentive. Food was presented in an enticing manner, Temperature and taste was of top quality. Each and every time we have come to this restaurant we have been greeted with the same. Would recommend to any and alll who prefer a taste of the sea with top notch taste, selection service and atmosphere.
Waitstaff appeared rushed; needed to make multiple requests for water.
Nice quasi nautical theme, spacious, comfortable, easy parking in bus station behind restaurant for $5. Food was tasty, nice presentation, and the right amount on the plate. Good selections in both the seafood and miscellaneous choices. All 3 of us agreed we would come back again when in the Santa Barbara area. Very nice pricing.
Have loved this restaurant for a long time. Then the remodel happened and I was surprised! Seemed noisier, but we came for Valentine’s Day regardless. We had the best time ever! Everything was so good...the service and ambiance was excellent! We will continue to come and recommend to our family and friends! Thank you for being there.
Great food and very good happy hour prices! Service was a little slow and even though we booked our table, it took another half hour to get it. Worth the wait though, we will go again.
Our mistake was going on Valentine's Day, but maybe we would've had the same experience on a busy weekend anyway? Although we had a reservation, we were seated a full hour after that, despite arriving early. They clearly did not have a good system in place to seat guests in a timely fashion, probably just accepted more reservations than they good actually serve. Once we were seated the service was ok, not great, but again, they were over-crowded. The food was good and decently priced.
Valentine’s
Crowded for the holiday, yet service was quick and responsive. Food was delicious! Enjoyed the evening very much.
The food is very good! Lobster bisque and lobster Mac n cheese were delicious. Employees were very friendly and hustling to ensure food was getting to the tables hot and fresh. The tables are very close together so the ambiance does suffer a bit and our table was wobbly. Otherwise, would recommend and will definitely be back!
Excellent fish. Quickly taken to table when we arrived for our reservation. Server was definitely not very good. Disappeared a lot. Getting a refill on our drinks was difficult since she was never around.
Great foods
Always EXCELLENT food and service. Miss the fish tank tho!
This was not at all what my date and I expected. We had hoped this was a quality seafood restaurant with ambiance but unfortunately, this felt more like a bad version of Red Lobster. I definitely would not go back or recommend.
Food was good not great. Sides are an afterthought - rice pilaf was mushy, potatoes were tasteless. Best thing on the menu is the clam chowder.
Annual trip to Santa Barbara to visit friends.
A friend and I went there for lunch. I had the fish and chips that I totally love and she had a grilled chicken sandwich. It was nice to be able to substitute a Cesar salad for the fries!
Food is good but we miss the Manhattan Clam Chowder...
I was a bit concerned that we had made a mistake in our choice when I saw how busy and noisy the restaurant was, with various tv screens showing sports matches. However we were put in a corner booth where noise levels were acceptable, and the service was very good. Food was delicious. Definitely worth a visit!
We really enjoyed this restaurant. It was exactly what we were looking for. It was so close to our hotel, we could have walked. We were looking to stay on our diets and the kabobs were perfect! Really enjoyed it!
Always love coming here for my annual Lobster birthday dinner with my family and best friends. This year was, I believe, my 15th year and I’m never disappointed! Once part of my lobster was undercooked and they replaced my whole lobster, great service! Always crowded and lively, a fun dining spot. Only bummer is the parking lot is now a public paying lot but fortunately Santa Barbara parking is very reasonable compared to other cities!
Famous San Francisco cioppino and signature southern corn bread found their cousins @ this restaurant. Thank goodness I had both before somewhere else or I would never ever order again if first time I tried both @ this restaurant. Corn bread somehow presented in a french toast way - toasted too much becoming blackened. Cioppino - oh gosh ... didn’t those seafoods die in vein? By the way where is the shrimps ... ha any self-respecting shrimps will jump the ship before name gets mugged ... never will go again ...
Great service. Was a little loud and couldn’t carry a comfortable conversation without having to yell at each other. The dover sole entree was amazing. Swordfish was slightly overcooked and a bit dry but still had good flavors. Side dishes were perfect. Shrimp and salmon were cooked perfectly. Excellent drink selections. We’ll come back!
Great food service was not that great girl forgot my veggies but she was pretty busy that night
Our server was so kind and great! Food was yummy and they gave us dessert for our anniversary. Great place and wonderful staff!
I normally don't write reviews but this place was so bad that I feel compelled to share our experience. What is served does not match the description on the menu! I ordered the Jambalaya that is described as containing chicken, shrimp, andouille sausage, rice - I didn't find any chicken in the dish and very few shrimp - it was almost entirely sausage. My wife ordered the Mesquite Grilled Seafood Caesar Salad and again there was no evidence of the crab that was supposed to be included - it was basically a shrimp skewer and the "braised" Romaine stack appeared to have been prepared hours or maybe even days earlier. Overall it was one of the worst dining experiences that we have had in a long time. I must say the high point of the evening was watching the Patriots get knocked out of the playoffs!
The lobster bisque here is outrageously delicious with a puff pastry topping. Good fresh fish!
A very big, vibrant open space with a pretty high energy level, but not overly loud. Charming and vintage building. Really high quality seafood at reasonable prices. Excellent service.
nice place to be. perfect food, top service and a really cool location. the food is running quick as well
Although the "opened-up" remodel has made the entire front half extremely noisy, we were able to be seated in the back-left side, up a few stairs, overlooking the cooking area, and it was thankfully quieter. The food continues to be very good, although we miss having a choice of chowder or salad with our entrees, without the upcharge which is now required. I especially liked the dijon-flavored sauce that came with the British Columbia Salmon, and will be back the next time in Santa Barbara to order it again.
