Owner/Winemaker Csaba Szakál’s singular focus on Napa mountaintop Cabernets and Sonoma Pinots has been making a big splash on the California wine scene since his debut in 2007. Whether you’re a serious collector or a group looking to experience some of the finest wines in the region, we offer a variety of tasting options in a curated-yet-relaxed wine country setting.
Recent accolades (2023) include 98-points for the Bordeaux blend 2019 Grand Vin and 95 points for the Passion de la Reine Reserve Pinot Noir from Russian River.

Welcome to En Garde, with our unique focus on Sonoma Pinot Noir, primarily from the Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast appellations, as well as acclaimed Napa mountaintop Cabernet Sauvignon featuring fruit from Diamond Mountain, Howell Mountain, Mt. Veeder, Atlas Peak, and more. Guests will have the opportunity to select from two tasting menus. Please let us know in advance or upon arrival if you have a particular varietal that you'd like to focus on during your visit. We will do our best to accommodate your request

The perfect introduction to En Garde, our Signature Tasting is a journey through Sonoma and Napa valleys, featuring our pinot noirs and cabernet sauvignons. Your tasting of four wines will include one or two additional varietals from our inventory of small-production, highly-rated wines. Your friendly and knowledgeable host will share the story of our winemaker's humble beginnings in his grandfather's vineyard in Hungary through the present day. No where on the site or in the reservation was it noted the tasting fee. The wines were OK, but the fee was as high higher than similar Napa Valley wineries. Our host hovered to the point it was uncomfortable. I would not go again considering how many other wineries are in the area.

En Garde was by far my husband and my favorite winery that we visited. The tasting area was beautiful and while right next to the road had a great view of the mountains in front. We both agreed that the only thing better than the gentleman helping us was the wine. I would easily go drink their wine on a dirt floor if it meant I got the privilege to drink it again. Every single one I tried was normally out of my comfort zone but unbelievably delicious. We are excited to bring our friends and family back.

I live in Sonoma and always send friends and visitors to En Garde for great reds and a very comfortable setting. Everyone there is with helpful and nice. No tour buses here, you have their complete attention during your tasting. They do not serve food but OpenTable forces a review anyway. No need to read more, just plan on stopping by on your next wine country trip.

Wife and I were visiting Sonoma for the first time and heard good things about this place so wanted to give it a try. Amazing wines and tasting experience! Definitely does not disappoint.

These are stellar, incredible wines that are the very best of Sonoma. The intimate seating allows you to fully enjoy each wine with informed and welcoming staff to guide you through their line-up. It is a favorite.

En Garde wines are always a delight to drink. Csaba is truly an artist when it comes to wine making. We had the pleasure to talk with him and ask questions about his process. It is truly remarkable the love, care and attention that he and his wife put into making each bottle.
