Lots of Fun and Delicious Experiences. The ahi tostada with the “egg yolk” made of mango was the bomb!!!
Foodies, this one's for you. This was one of the most outstanding dinners I have had in a long time. The trifecta of Service, Ambiance and Deliciousness. You must try the "Smoking Ember" cocktail. Everything we had was great, you can't go wrong! Our server described each item with impeccable, mouthwatering detail, I wanted to order the whole menu! It's pricey, so be prepared for that, but every bit of this dining experience is worth it.
From cocktails to everything we ate (which may be everything), service and wine knowledge this was a tip San Diego experience!
Absolutely delicious steak, loved the smokiness and cooked to perfection. Service was excellent, very attentive. Only issue was the high fee for corkage, $35 you would think that could be lowered or waived for regulars.
My wife and I had a great romantic dinner, sat outside with a beautiful view and the service was personable. We shared the Arctic char which I will order every time I go there now, I wanted to drink the sauce. The boneless ribeye was cooked perfectly, the mushrooms were a perfect side with the steak and were cooked in a black truffle butter that made them so good. And we finished our dinner with the apple pie which is a MUST. We will be going back that’s for sure!
Our boyfriend and I were celebrating our anniversary early in SoCali this year and to make up last year's anniversary (COVID). He choose his restaurant and I choose mine which is Ember & Rye.
First off, I'm a big Top Chef fan and to able to make a trip to Ember & Rye has me fangirling hard, and I have been following its social media so I know what to expect.
What I (or my boyfriend) weren't expecting was that each dishes we ordered was mind-blowing and on-point delicious like a perfectly curated dinner. Honestly, there wasn't a bad bite anywhere!
And, special thanks to our server Erica for being super kind, providing excellent service, and making our anniversary dinner special.
Ember and Rye was very good. Portions were on the smaller size for the price, but food was amazing. Very clever presentation on some of the items (for instance, Butternut Squash came in a glass covering with smoke). View of the 18th green and lake was nice, a bit breezy/chilly but they turned on the heaters to accommodate us. Service was great.
Early Mother’s Day fir my daughter!
Very nice ambiance and the food and service was exceptional.
The ambiance is amazing. They really transformed what was Argyle.
We got the appetizer tower and some items were awesome and others really seemed to lack flavor overall. The tuna tartar was mushy and bland. The steak tartar and oysters were awesome. The lobster roll barely had any lobster meat. The scotch eggs were bland. I had the keep adding salt to everything (I normally never salt my food at a restaurant).
Once our food arrived, our waitress disappeared for an hour. We had to flag down a busser to order more cocktails, and our water glasses sat empty. The busser was awesome and apologetic.
We may return to try the steakhouse side of the menu but for the price and first experience, it would not be my first choice.
We were excited to go. The food lived up to our expectations. Portions were perfect on entrees. The starters are amazing. Sea bass cooked to perfection and swordfish was a very generous amount and perfect.
The specialty cocktails are a must. Don’t normally eat dessert... seriously? The Apple Pie and Carrot Cake... wow!
Our server was well informed and attentive. The only bug con was the noise level inside. Could have used some sort of buffer in the ceiling. Will go outside next time because that was too much.
Thank you. Will return.
My husband and I go to a lot of fine dining restaurants for dinner. First time at Ember & Rye. Our server John was wonderful and the food was superb. The new decor is just beautiful. Our only complaint is that this had to be the noisiest restaurant that we have ever been to, EVER! We had to yell just to be heard talking to each other. And we had to keep saying what to our masked server. We will come back and hopefully be seated in a quieter area.
Very Disappointing; I went as there was a lot of hype stating it was under new management. I took my wife on her 60th B-Day with my son. None of the food was edible; it was canned, microwaved, and not fresh. Food came out in seconds. Gordon Ramsy needs to go there to get them on track (Kitchen Nightmares). I would not recommend this place.
The buzz is all true - amazing food & location. Service was good. Happy they kept a lot of the same staff.
We were there for a "get out of quarantine" lunch, and to try a new local restaurant. We sat on the patio: The view is worth the price of admission. The service was excellent and the food very good. We both had sandwiches, and my one complaint is that the huge bun size made the inedible (as a sandwich). My wife's $22 old fashioned was interesting but will not be reordered. My Hendricks Gin Bloody Mary was perfect, adorned with only a wedge of lime and a straw - no garbage! Perfect. A beautiful treat after a walk by the lagoon.
We will return.
Having been regular customers for many years @ Argyle my friend and I booked a reservation for lunch. We had great seats outdoors - beautiful views of the golf course and beyond. The waiter was wonderful - very polite and answered all our requests.
Unfortunately our lunch was sub par. We ordered the French dip. The meat was very stringy and fatty. Pretty disappointing. For a restaurant of this caliber we think they could do better.
Celebrated our 25th Wedding Anniversary this past week. Waitress and the support staff were great when they weren't attending to the other customers. Seemed like they may have been attempting to cover too many tables. We were not offered a second round of drinks until dessert which at that point was late in the experience. Small Plates and sides were fantastic. Ordered the "Thor" Steak at $94 and it was huge but seriously lacked in flavor and wasn't worth the price at all. The bar and private rooms looked very nice and may come back to try again.
My husband and I went here for our 2nd year anniversary and they treated us so well. From the host to our server. They were all nice and the food were topnotch. I would recommend this to anyone. The view was great as well!
We loved our dinner at Ember and Rye! Service was excellent, Jeremiah was efficient, attentive and funny he made our night even more special. The food was all excellent we had the bacon wrapped filet, strip steak and they were both cooked exactly to our order. Beet salad was a great side and the apple pie should not be missed!
More hype than substance. Incredibly expensive for what you get. Chintzy pours of wine and scotch for upwards of $27 each. $55 steak was disappointing especially for that price. Cooked medium instead of the ordered medium rare, and bland, lacking in any kind of discernible seasoning or sauce. Steak selection is very limited given the rep: there’s a bacon wrapped filet of a reasonable size and the 10 oz strip that I ordered. Other than that, the steaks escalate dramatically in size and price. So unless you have a companion willing to share a monster steak with you or you want to put away a 16 oz+ steak by yourself, or you want to pay $190 for a 12 oz “skinny cut” waygu, the choices are limited. Arctic char ordered by my wife was pretty good. Wine didn’t come out until several minutes after the main course was delivered.
Veggie sides were good. Views and ambiance are really nice. Would not be at the top of my list for a return trip - there are way better steakhouse and seafood options in the area.
The outside patio had a beautiful view of the lagoon. We were spaced nicely with others, so we felt safe and comfortable and it allowed for privacy in conversations. Jeremiah was very attentive and provided descriptions and great recommendations for the different dishes. And dinner was outstandingly delicious!
Stunning food with fantastic service in a serene, romantic setting! Great spot for special occasion dining! Don't miss the celery root-horseradish purée with the dry-aged Flannery ribeye...
Delicious food and wonderful service!
The steaks were cooked to perfection and flavor amazing. The cocktails specifically the Old Fashioned and Burning Ember were outstanding. We’ll def be back.
the food was great with many dishes being so creative first-timers.
Amazing place! Amazing atmosphere.
Beautiful location, but was very disappointed that my dry aged steak was very under cooked. (I ordered medium rare, and I usually love bloody steak but this was purple and basically rare. It arrived cold, and I should have said something but by the time I could get a waiters attention it was a little too late. Would try again, but won’t get steak next time around
Had a wonderful time for our 5th anniversary! We sat outside overlooking the lagoon. Started with a shrimp cocktail - the cocktail sauce was quite tasty. Then Ordered the 30 oz Thor’s cut ribeye to split. It was perfect. Had a few sides as well- corn crème brûlée, creamed spinach and the snap peas - all three were fantastic. Finished it off with the apple pie a la mode. Not to mention the old fashioned’s were pretty stellar! All in all a really fun place to have a meal - Richard even stopped by for a chat. Highly recommended!!
We had a wonderful experience! Our server John was knowledgeable and kind. All the food was outstanding. Chef Blais came out to greet us all well. We had our young girls with us, and the restaurant gets an honorable mention for being kid friendly! Thank you!
This was the first time visiting the new Ember & Rye restaurant. We loved the Argyle Restaurant and our dining experience was always excellent. The Ember & Rye has a trendy type ambience. Plain tables, no tablecloths (maybe a COVID thing), music that definitely does not go with this type of dining experience. The music was distracting rather than being a compliment to the dinner. The garlic croissant was delicious. We had the petite filet mignon and strip steak. The petite filet was excellent. The strip steak was tough. I ordered a side of the steak sauce to try and did like the flavor, however, my feeling is that if you are paying this kind of money for beef, it should stand alone on its flavor. That wasn't the case with the strip steak. We enjoyed the corn creme brule and the garlic mashed potatoes, but the onion rings we ordered were greasy. Our service was excellent. The updated remodel was nice (especially the new bar) and we would go back to the Ember & Rye when visiting Park Hyatt Aviara, but it was not the elegant dining experience of the previous Argyle Restaurant.
We were excited to try a new Celebrated Chef’s collaboration just a couple of blocks from our place. Unfortunately we were disappointed. My champagne was warm, my filet was cold and the server brought the bread at the end of the meal. As a steakhouse, having only one available option of Cab Sauv in a Friday night was also odd. On the positive side, The sides tasted great, so did my husband’s Old Fashioned. The carrot cake was also delicious.
Thor’s Cut Ribeye was overcooked and way too Smokey, Artic Char had no flavor and Habenero was nowhere to be found, really disappointing.
Another great meal at Ember and Rye.
This place needs a little time to get it together. I would understand the discrepancies between trying to be a restaurant with a golf theme and a place that serves grilled meat and fish and old-school cocktails, if a Top/Celebrity chef hadn't opened his own business and lent the concept to it, nor if he hadn't competed in Restaurant Wars and learned how important front-of-house-service is.
Also, there were far too many staff milling around doing nothing while our waiter could never seem to get the timing right for delivery of our drinks, food, dessert or check.
It is overpriced for what it offers and you leave smelling like campfire, even if you're sitting inside!
Misses the mark.
Met three gal pals for lunch here, as we’d had lunch here many times when it was Argyly. The service, while pleasant, was slow. The lunch menu is somewhat interesting, but limited, and while understanding the neighborhood and this restaurant, I felt the prices were high. The new decor is pleasing. After meal cappuccino were room temperature, by that time I did not feel like waiting another 20 minutes to have it warmed up.
Great experience at Ember and Rye that has replaced the Alterra Steakhouse at Aviara Country Club — excellent service and food both. Good views of the golf course and the remodel of the dining area was well done. Well worth the visit.
Not sure if it was due to us dining there mid-week and for lunch, but the food didn't live up to our expectations.
Dishes were lukewarm and not hot. Some needed seasoning.
We had high hopes for a knock-your-socks-off meal but our experience sadly didn't live up to our expectations.
Jessie our waiter was outstanding. Menu is very interesting with nice range of tastes. Presentation of every dish was superb and taste was exquisite. Overall our party of four had a terrific evening and we enjoyed the whole experience.
For what it cost, I expected a lot more. More creative menu, more interesting flavors and more of an impression. When I go to a new restaurant I hope to leave thinking I can't wait to return. It did t happen here
Out of this world steak. The menu is a gastronomic playground with a touch of nostalgia.
