Absolutely fantastic. The food, wowee, couldn’t fault it at all. We almost didn’t go because of the snow but so pleased we did. Such a shame to hear that it is closing because of the ridiculous rent hikes that Hackney businesses are facing. Well it’s a true gem so we will definitely book when Ellory reopens as Leroy in Shoreditch. A loss for Hackney though.
Lovely. Trout crackers were amazing. Some dishes were a bit over seasoned for our taste. Really nice service
Lovely wine, great atmosphere and very expensive. Good for a special occasion.
Fit bar guy who knows how to chat about wine. Fit chef in the kitchen.
Absolutely amazing food, excellent service and niche wines. Couldn't fault a thing.
My partner and I visited Ellory for lunch and were disappointed to find that there was no distinction between the lunch and dinner menus which made it a rather expensive affair. We were even more disappointed to find that we were the only diners! Overall the venue was entirely lacking in atmosphere and while the food was creative and interesting it wasn’t quite suited to lunchtime and it unfortunately couldn’t make up for the rather cold and empty venue. It may be an entirely different scenario in the evenings but I would not recommend Ellory for lunch.
Heard good things about this place from others and was not disappointed. The food was excellent and the attention of service pitched at just the right leveL. It has a Michelin star but is a more informal dining experience that you might expect. The restaurant is less fancy than say some of the "corporate card restaurants" but food is on a level if not better.
We had a lovely meal, the Chefs menu for 4 of us. It wasn’t busy (a Monday evening) but we didn’t even notice to be honest. The service was excellent and the food fresh and menu inventive.
very laid back setting despite of its Michelin Starr! Good quality food
Took my husband for his birthday. Absolutely amazing food, staff were brilliant, atmosphere lovely. Would definitely go again.
A very tasty meal with great wine in lovely surroundings. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and smiley.
We had a lovely meal in Ellory on a Saturday night. One of us is veggie with another intolerance, and they were aware of the note on our booking and were able to adapt some of the dishes to suit without any problems. The service was excellent and the food interesting and delicious.
Fabulous wine list, way off piste. Great food, especially the monks beard and smoked eel. Mostly tho, delightful people enjoying what they do.
Great food made by great chefs. The food was delicious! Will definitely go back. My new favourite local!
Great food, excellent service. The octopus was superb, the spinach rissoto sublime.
They even realised that it was my wifes birthday even though I was too stupid to mention it.
My wife now has a new favorite cocktail.
All in all. A fantastic time was had.
We were expecting much better from 1 michelin star restaurant. Starter needed more seasoning, also tomatoes in February was a strange decision. Eel was simple and tasty; main was a bit too intense in my opinion and unfortunately two pieces of flat iron were cooked differently, what shouldn't happen. Dessert was pretty simple. It wasn't best restaurant expirience, but not too bad. Would I come back?-no
This was third or fourth time my husband and I went to Ellory and it was excellent as always. Combination of very refined fresh food and very polite but informal service really works. Being an industry veteran, over 20 years in hospitality, I know how hard this is to maintain. Keep on doing the great job guys.
Great Service, amazing food, not cheap but you definitely get what you pay for. Excellent combination of flavours and the wine is matched perfectly. Something definitely out if the ordinary.
Great food - simple delicious dishes. Highly recommend.
Really good food in an informal setting. Excellent value.
Fantastic value for money. I had the 4 courses for £45 and it was outstanding! The main which was duck with braised cabbage and cherry sauce was my favourite and the muscles in white wine and fresh bread was excellent. Cocktails and wine delicious too. Wonderful intimate yet modern restaurant in hackney definitely a great little gem, will be going back!!
Superb food - quite exceptional - but incredibly expensive (unreasonably so)
We had heard good things about Ellory and were not disappointed. Delicious inventive food and impeccable service. Highly recommended.
Average food, poor value for money. Would not go back.
We went to Ellory for a Sunday brunch, and the food was very good. We had high expectations for this place, so I was a little disappointed. All the dishes were good but none of them was superb. It is a nice place to go once, but I am not planning to return there.
Outstanding food again with excellent service. A true hidden gem.
Everything perfect from food to service. Only the music a bit too loud - especially when on a date. But after asking to turn it down a bit, this was done without durther ado.
Outstanding fresh and original flavours in a great relaxed and informal environment. A perfect evening is to eat at ellory then go to the Kansas Smitty's jazz club round the corner
Went out for my husbands birthday, phoned in advance to advise that I was veggi and pregnant. I was assured this was no problem.
Arrived to find very limited options and I had to push for alternatives when I couldn't eat the unpasteurised cheese on my starter. (It would have otherwise consisted of a plate of lettuce and walnuts!! Not very appealing). My husband is an avid meat eater but found the food distinctly below average.
Waitress quite sullen and whipped plates etc away seconds after finishing.
Considering the price and the apparently excellent rating I will not be returning. Very disappointed as had been so excited.
The food, wine, servicee and whole experience was FANTASTIC !!!
Modest looking restaurant from outside, warm and friendly welcome and great attentive service from the staff in stylish, simple surroundings. Wonderfully delicious food with interesting mix of meat, fish and veg to please all. We’ll be back!!
By far and away the worst Michelin stared meal i have ever had by a long, long way. The Michelin inspectors that approved this place need retiring. They preen to the presumption that trendy and cool makes up for culinary illiterate. The dishes try far too hard and no mastery of their trade. Having travelled out to hackney, i can accept the less salubrious style. what i can not tolerate is the standard of cooking. The chef needed to spend a couple more years learning under the guidance of an older master. aspiring to work with simple fresh ingredients is noble, but the pretentious they then bring to these combinations ruin what might have otherwise been ok. it was simply too early to go it alone and the combinations dont work. for an average resident this may seem at the cutting edge of cooking, but for those of us travelling around this is a very poor imitation of what it aspires to be.... the first rule of cooking is does it taste good - 8 courses the answer each time was no. the kitchen in the restaurant is also clearly a limiting factor and is not suitable for their requirements. my other tip is don't change the menu all the time - you are mastering none of the dishes i had.. find winners and stick to them, change it seasonally... being clever is tiresome, especially when you don't even get close to pulling it off. 60+ Michelin restaurants this is hands down the worst (if also one of the cheapest). honestly i can not understand how a restaurant like Yauatcha City (although a different style)does not have one but this does - they are are worlds apart in quality. the experience was so bad i can not now bare the thought of Pidgin being an equal let down, so it's killed the Hackney restaurant scene for me for good... on the wines, they are just average for a restaurant that aspires to this level of quality. The bread was the single best thing and i don't think they even make it themseleves.
my prediction is that this is the first and last year it has a star...
I was so excited to eat there - but was pretty disappointed with the service. When we first arrived, they mentioned the reservations were canceled (which they weren't), so it went from a bit awkward to them finding us a table. So that is good.
But as soon as we sat down, we were immediately told that we only had 2 hours for dining - I would have much preferred a greeting, but ok. Throughout the dinner, the waiter and manager were checking their watches. And then as we were about to order dessert, we were told - "reminder, you have 30 min before we need the table". This was super disappointing and just honestly a complete downer. No one wants to sit at a table, be constantly reminded that you need to hurry up and leave. Either manage your inventory of tables better (somehow all of the other restaurants can do this pretty well) or figure out a way to ensure guests don't feel this way.
The food was ok - nothing spectacular, but def above average. And ambiance was nice as well. But given the service, would not recommend anyone come here. There are plenty of other delicious restaurants that treat guests better than this.
The interior was simple at first glance but the finer details like the sound dampening ceiling panels and gorgeous globe speakers.
Food was a little over priced for what it was (chicory, walnut and cheese salad for £9) or the portion size (3 scallops for £21 or a small portion of turbot for £24)
However the flavours and textures were lovely. Enjoyed the sharing aspects of the plates.
Food incredibly good and very reasonable value. Service cold and impersonal albeit efficient.
Loved it! Delicious food, great wines and super crew!
The first time to this terrific restaurant - definitely not the last
Awesome - really really good. Would go back again for certain
We created a sharing tasting menu from the al la carte availability of all the dishes we wanted. Beautifully prepared food bursting with flavour.
