El Topo is a New Western restaurant grown from a food truck founded in November of 2015. Our cuisine features sophisticated tacos on house made, heirloom corn tortillas, delicate pastries baked from scratch, and responsibly-sourced meats and produce prepared with practiced technique, both ancient and cutting edge.

Nestled in the neighborhood of West University and surrounding Houston for all-day, brunch and light luncheon fare, as well as a bustling, romantic dinner service featuring a consciously-sourced, eccentric wine list. Our dining room has been carefully designed by Chef-Owner Tony Luhrman to be a celebration of both beauty and comfort, with an eclectic, West Texas aesthetic.

Incredible food but felt rushed by our waiter even though there were open tables during our entire meal. I sensed a definite level of irritation over us 3 longtime friends spending time chatting before ordering, even after placing our cocktail orders. That’s what us older girlfriends do….

We first discovered ElTopo in their food truck several years ago and it was AMAZING. We enjoyed brunch today at their restaurant and it was SO GOOD!

Great hidden gem in West U! Thankfully not overcrowded for Father’s Day tex mex brunch. Vegan options were a plus. Would give 5 stars except it was too hot inside for me.

El Topo has become a family staple for regular dinners+lunches and weekend brunches. They are consistently delicious…prepared with a high level of care, quality ingredients and attention to detail. The menu isn’t vast, which we appreciate a more curated approach to offerings…and the regular items suit both our vegetarians and carnivores. The staff offer a light-touch friendliness and attentiveness. We also appreciate that the owner/chef values their staff so much, that in Jan 2023 they decided to provide an automatic 20% tip on each bill. Thank you for being here!

We came here for a birthday dinner and it was so much fun! The staff is super friendly and attentive. The place is very intimate! The food and drinks are amazing. This will definitely be our new place for special occasions
