This was our second visit to El Raval. On the first visit we tried a tasting experience. This time when we came back we were ready to try individual plates. For us I think that Friday nights are not the best night for us but we'll definitely be back. Our only real issue this time around is that the bar was an incredible bottleneck where it took so long to get the first round that we wanted to order a 2nd asap to get ahead of the long wait, but service didn't give us that opportunity. It's not a deal breaker, just tells us that weeknights are a better evening for us. The kitchen is so impressive - despite every table being full and tapas being the kind of meal event where even a table of two might order 6-8 or more dishes, the food kept arriving at our table at an efficient pace, and with no evidence of corner cutting. Whoever is running the show back there is amazing. The table next to us got upset about the pace of their wine flight because it wasn't keeping up with their food. We weren't upset like them, I just wanted another drink but it didn't ruin anything for us. Couple of minor menu item descriptions that didn't set our expectations. The apple & fennel salad was described in a way that made me expect shaved fennel, apples, and cucumber but it was a full on mixed greens plate with big apple chunks and barely any fennel. It didn't align with a tapas menu. The large amount of greens and the apple chunks made it clumsy to eat. The chicharron "croutons" were a fabulous touch though. It came off like a high end hotel take on a caesar salad. Loved the flavor components but wanted fennel, not salad greens to be the star. The other confusing dish was the cauliflower. It wasn't exactly roasted as I'd expect so it didn't have a caramelized flavor and it had a lot of competing sauces going on. It fell flat with us. These aren't fails. The menu descriptions simply didn't set our expectations. We'll still be back! El Raval is still a favorite.

I’ve been a loyal customer of El Raval and have always enjoyed the food, but after my most recent visit, I’m not sure I’ll be returning. My party of four had a reservation at 5:45 PM on a Saturday and ordered paella, which we knew would take about 45 minutes to prepare. We also had appetizers, drinks, and dessert, making for what should have been a relaxed and enjoyable meal. However, about 90 minutes into dinner, I noticed what appeared to be the manager and a staff member eyeing our table. Not long after, the manager approached us, feigning interest in our experience while in the same breath making it clear that there were people waiting for our table and that he needed to "pacify them" because they were angry, as we were finishing up. I have never been made to feel so rushed at a restaurant, especially after spending $300 on dinner. The way the manager handled it was unprofessional and disingenuous—pretending to care about our experience while simultaneously making it clear that we needed to leave. Our total dining time was less than two hours, which is completely reasonable for a full-course meal on a Saturday night. If the restaurant has a time limit, it should be communicated at the time of reservation, not sprung on guests in a way that makes them feel unwelcome. I reached out to the restaurant to share my experience, but after several days, I have yet to receive a response. Unfortunately, great food can’t make up for poor hospitality.

I have never once reviewed a restaurant but I just loved El Raval. I wanted something semi-filling to have with a cocktail but ended up loving the food so much it was a FULL dinner. We ordered the patatas bravas, calamari, brócoli, and cauliflower. The drinks were amazing. Service was amazing. Can’t recommend enough.

At Raval, you can dine, socialize, and enjoy the meal without feeling rushed. A latest trend in dining is for waters to wand to take all of your order at once so they can dictate how much time you spend at the restaurant. At Raval, they leave it up to you. You can enjoy the wonderful flavors of the creative menu and drink list at your leasure.

It's just as good as the one before (Barlata). So glad cuz I loved Barlata. The waiter was great and super friendly. I appreciated his friendliness. It was not super busy when we went...and I think it made the paella come out perfectly.
