Delicious but pricey. Very celiac friendly so we don’t mind paying for it. We were seated 30 min past our reservation which was annoying with a large group. I assume Saturday night got busy.

The food was amazing, as was the service. The brunch menu had excellent choices and the food was cooked to perfection. We had the poached eggs with the gorditas and the Hollandaise sauce, which included poblano pepper and gave it a nice punch. We will definitely be back!

Nice, intimate setting in a repurposed home on hip Rainey street. Absolutely delicious food! Really enjoyed their unique recipes for traditional dishes like mole, chile relleno, and empanadas, as well as an unusual appetizer spread and between-course snacks with small rolls. Service was attentive and chef/bartender were open to special requests. Will definitely go back. Just sad that they are closed on Mondays :(

My friend and I enjoy creative drinks and cuisine and El Naranjo did not disappoint. On top of that, great service and ambience. The level of sound was such one could carry on a conversation without having to shout to be heard.

This is a first-rate restaurant that takes care to present interior Mexico cooking at its best. The appetizers are excellent, and the small plates enough to make up a full meal. The moles are superb, particularly those from Oaxaca, where the chef had a restaurant for many years. The salsas are excellent, particularly the Salsa Macha (though not too spicy), which you can also buy.

Overall disappointed. The actual menu was different from the website (went there specifically because of a dish that was listed on the website but wasn’t offered at the restaurant), and the overall quality of food was less than expected. It is a fairly expensive restaurant and not one that I’ll be returning to.

This restaurant never disappoints and it is great to introduce Texans to a range of dishes that are not 'TexMex'. The food is well prepared, the menu has items for all tastes, the drinks are great and the desserts are too.

FOod was bland I was expecting more for a $32 plate. Service was average, out server was nice but not very attentive. She seemed shy. After being here twice and both times being the same experience I wouldn’t recommend.

Excellent experience. The food is amazing. If you don't understand what interior Mexican food is, then you may not want it, so don't eat here if this is the case. Mildly spiced, it is not Tex-Mex. Most of the negative reviews here seem to be from people that dont get this concept.
LOVED the mole. All of the appetizers we had were delicious--queso fundido, ceviche, and guacamole.
And another thing--it is pricey, and given that this is a higher-quality dining experience, don't expect a plate overflowing with excessive food. This is gourmet food beautifully presented.

What a surprise !! This was a great restaurant with a great menu and great service. Really not knowing what to expect, we were overwhelmed. The authenticity of the cuisine and of the decor were totally unexpected. While we had a Sunday brunch, I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant to anyone. Five stars.

Authentic Mexican maybe, the spicy food was so spicy, that all you could taste was heat.
The sea bass was good but smothered in the sauce and overall there was too much food on the plate. The beef tacos were basically sliders on a corn tortilla in place of a bun.
Everything was OK but nothing was unforgettable and I would not make a trip back.

It was packed though. So someone must like it.

Perfect Duck, Perfect Pork Chop. Each dish was done with a mole. I haven't decided what I think about moles, though. My first time. I think they were authentic, but the pipian verde needed salt and/or acid. The Mole Amarillo was a bit one dimensional, more acid? Cumin was very dominant.

It was very nice though.

We first encountered Iliana de la Vegas' cooking/menu in Oaxaca 11 years ago, and have been waiting for an opportunity to dine with her again, since she decamped to Austin. The neighborhood in Austin is a foodie neighborhood, a little funky, definitely shouting, "good restaurants"! We had the pipian verde chicken, guacamole with house-made chips (so good) and the sea bass with a pico de gallo topping. Really great. The waiter was extraordinarily attentive and pleasant, and Patricia came over, at Iliana's direction (who was away) to offer us a complementary dessert; we wish that we would have had room! Alas, next time. Easy to find, on Rainey Street, from downtown Austin. A car-ride or Lyft away. Worth the trip!

Waitress was friendly and knowledgeable but impossible to get attention after we had ordered to add on another item. Our reservation was at 8:15pm but the kitchen was very slow. We blew through our appetizers but were famished waiting for the food to come out. We had an appetizer, two salads, 4 cocktails, 1 beer and four entrees--$230 before tip. Food was tasty but overall experience was not what I would expect for a restaurant in the top 25 in Austin.
