Delicious food. Excellent service
I’m only leaving one star because I can’t leave the stars blank! The only thing worthwhile are the drinks! I’d rather have eaten Taco Bell compared to the food here!
Good was very good, fresh. Service was great, sat by the front window with open air, lots of air circulation in the large dining room. Definitely will go back!
Do not waste your time. The service was horrible. The food was not great.
Loved it! Great Mexican food and drinks!!
We love going to El Guapo for margaritas. Service was not as great as usual but not horrible. We might have had a new server. Food was average and margaritas were great, as always. Still plan to go back.
I really REALLY wanted to like El Quapo. The owners have become quite successful with their sister restaurant which has a great vibe. I want this restaurant to succeed. But it has real problems. We dined on Taco Tuesday. Pandemic issues aside, the place should've been busy. It was less than 1/2 full even though it's a wonderful space; open and inviting so what gives? The wait staff seemed to have an average age of about 17 so I expected issues and was not disappointed. Our waitress was both sweet and earnest though but poor thing. The kitchen failed her. I can't say why the restaurant was out of steak or shrimp on a Tuesday but they were. Bad management maybe? The food itself came out well prepared but that doesn't mean it was tasty. My sons' had Birria tacos, I had chicken and beef street tacos and a side of guac and the wife got fish tacos.
First issue; stale chips. It was humid that night but come on! Stale chips? There's just no excuse. The salsa was good and fresh though. The guac was overworked, almost slimy with thin flavor and lots of piles of fresh jalapenos. Not a fan. I've had frozen store bought guac that was as good (or bad). The Birria tacos are substantial with abundant beef inside, but oily and heavy. I would call them a mixed success. Sadly, the rice and beans that accompanied them were inedible. Literally prison chow. The rice had been overcooked to mush. The beans may have been flavorful, but no one knows because they were served together in the same bowl as the rice which absorbed all the liquid. Oh, and they were room temperature. I was tempted to send them back but felt pity for our waitress. My wife asked that they put the slaw they use for pupusas on her tacos instead of pineapple salsa. No biggie, right? It took the kitchen forever and when the tacos came out they were sad looking; mostly tortilla, some slivers of fish, spicy mayo and wisps of cabbage. One highlight of the night was the Margaritas. They were great.
We enjoyed the pleasant decor with N outside feel, sitting in the open window section. Our service was quick and the food as delicious as described. We will go back many times!
Spacious restaurant with great food and very good service.
The service could have been better. We sat forever waiting for our drinks although that may have been because of the bar service? Not clear. Even so, it took a while to be addressed and non-drink items (chips) equally took as long. Happy to have new places in C'ville and support them but got to step it up a bit for us to come back.
The food here was horrible! Everything tasted frozen or reheated.
The service was decent, but that's really all I can say. The drinks were not really good. The complimentary chips tasted stale, the salsa watery and flavorless. I ordered the Chorizo dish and when it came out it was essentially a vegan dish with absolutely no chorizo floating in chorizo grease. They offered to remake it, but by this point the damage had been done. I won't be returning.
The food was just okay. The shrimp in my taco were the very small kind. I was expecting large.
The servers were very sweet and attentive.
Food and service were excellent. We will surely stop by the next time we are passing through Catonsville at meal time.
Great food and even better drinks! Nice menu with lots of options, everything was wonderful. And the service fantastic!
The margaritas, sangria, and tacos were great!! Highly recommend!
Very loud in here - food was average - pretty cheap
The atmosphere is outstanding and you feel like you are in Mexico. Our server was excellent. However, the salsa and chips you are greeted with are not good and that is a first impression. Salsa watery and chips not quite fresh. Quac. is freshly made, but not seasoned enough. Love the menu because it's not your standard Tex/Mex. The Mole sauce is amazing as are the Chillies Relleno. The combination platter is a good sampling. Overall, a good addition to Catonsville, but please work on the salsa.
Such a great meal and always consistently good whenever we dine there. Service was good as well.
Fun Mexican spot with great margaritas and yummy food…tried the fajitas and they were delicious!
Great queso, fish tacos, and chili rellenos! And the house margaritas are generous and tasty!
Amber is a great server :)
Cocktails were inconsistent. First order was fine. Second drink was just so so. Entrees were not flavorful. My shrimp was ordered to be with cauliflower rice. Sent it back since it had regular rice. Carne aside was small portion, flavorless and overcooked. Waitress was the best part of the experience.
This is not your typical Mexican only restaurant. The menu is obviously inspired by South and Central American recipes. The food was individually made with care and was served hot. The staff kept us informed about a little delay in bringing our meals. We definitely would enjoy another meal at El Guapo.
Meh. 30 minute wait to order. Another 30 minutes for food. Tasteless chips and watery salsa with no flavor. Three from our group ordered tacos and the meat was dry all around. Trivia was blasting loudly but unintelligible. Plus the heat was overwhelming to air conditioning of it was on. Disappointing.
Really good meal. The carne asada and couple of the other dishes were really really good. The fish tacos were a bit dry. The margaritas excellent.
On our second visit last night, my wife and I again thought the food was way above average. The waitress started off well, but was more neglectful of our table later. The leve music (first visit) was excellent, but too loud. Last night's canned music was not Mexican, and much too loud.
My son loved the duck tacos, but I didn't like my combination fajitas. The meat was chewy and not very flavorful. The flan, however, was very good.
Our first time - great food and drinks and Happy Hour prices on Sundays.
Excellent Mother’s Day brunch last weekend. Brunch and lunch menu provided great range of options.
Good food in a good atmosphere. The waiter and staff were cool and hospitable.
Food was fantastic and our server gave just the right level of attention. Can’t wait to return
Solid food fun atmosphere
Had taco salad veggie, my only wish.... would have been grilled onion, charred spring onions, yellow,/ red peppers imparted with some Mexican flavors, I forgot to sample the mole sauce . But going bck the white sangria took me off my feet. 1 of the best quest. Ad a chef, I endorse this establishment, food, service, and libations ,Gm made sure we were good.
Great experience and addition to the Catonsville dining scene. Soup and tacos (duck and fish) was dinner, all were really good. So was the margarita. Very friendly and efficient service. I think the restaurant did a great job with social distancing and cleanliness. Will definitely go back. Numerous menu items look good and interesting choices to try.
First time visiting and I had a great experience. Hope was amazing and very patient with us as we wanted to celebrate and have great drinks. She was quick and fun to be around! It was so good, our boyfriends came back two days later to eat again. The food was great, and we ordered a bunch! Would definitely come back for the great service and authentic Mexican food and margs!
The food and service were great. It was fun to have a mariachi band playing but they were WAY too loud. It was impossible to talk so we left sooner than we probably would have
This restaurant was a great surprise. It is a open dining room, but it is still very easy to have conversation. The decor is really cool. Hope was our server and she was excellent! It is Latin Cuisine with a Mexican twist. We started with Margaritas, I had the prickly pear, my friend had mango, delicious! Lots tequila to choose from. We had the Duck Quesadilla, and it was so good! I had nachos for my dinner and they did not disappoint. My friend had the Chicken Skewers over cauliflower rice(this is where the Latin comes in) There is no skimping on portions. It was a delightful experience. You should go!
P.S. appetizers and house Margaritas are half price on weekends
Nice place. Food is Good. Great service.
Everything was great! Awesome new spot in Catonsville. Will be back soon.
The food was outstanding! The carne asada was to die for. Went for dinner then back the next day for brunch!
