Great food and atmosphere!!!
Wonderful cocktails, delicious food, attentive service, lovely ambiance.
Great bar and happy hour, loved the gin and tonics.
Loved the ambiance and the food was amazing. Really loved the patatas bravas and the soup with manchego foam - incredibly unique and delicious! Unfortunately our server seemed very new/inexperienced. If she was in training she needed a bit more oversight.
Great as usual! Their steaks are amazing if you can manage not to fill up on all the other goodness.
Frustrated that happy hour was only at the bar. Most restaurants have happy hour throughout. And although we were only 6 feet away from the bar, we were told the specials were unavailable to us.
Delicious and authentic. We had driven past this place hundreds of times and thought it was a quick dine in place. It's got a really cool ambiance, with ropes strewn up and down and across the room. The food is awesome and comes out awesome. We will be going back again for sure.
Great ambiance and service. We walked in on a Friday night and had no trouble finding a seat at the bar. They had a Spanish guitarist and drink specials which were nice. Would be nice to have more vegetarian or vegan entree options. There really aren't any.
Smokey Gin and tonic was the best I had ever had. The mussels and the beef were also incredible. There was a Spanish guitarrist who did an excellent job!
The place was full of energy. We had reservations so we were seated promptly but others turned away when they were told the wait. Service was slow at first, but became great once our server finally caught up to us. The gin cocktails are something to behold—crosses between pieces of art and aquaria and very tasty. Their take on the old fashioned was top rate. The food was very good. I can be a skeptic of small plate menus but theirs worked and it worked well. We will be back, if for no other reason than to check out paella Tuesdays.
Great hosting and food! One of a kind in town, Spanish at its best!
Wait staff was courteous, but understaffed for a Friday night prime time slot. Had to wait on drinks and food. French press coffee was served warm. Company and conversation made the time fly for this less than remarkable dining experience.
It was so much fun to cook steak on a stone! And the cocktails were amazing.
Excellent restaurant - pleasantly surprised by the menu. Reasonably priced for some of the better cuisine I’ve had in the city so far. Highly recommend.
This was a perfect dining experience. My very particular 12 year old brother-in-law even warmed up to it. Great for families, friends or couples and sufficiently south Austin which is nice.
The bartender, Gabe, was very patient explaining the unusual and different gin and tonic cocktail options that the U.S. is unaccustomed to. Food service was quick and the tapas plates were excellent. We had the potatoes, calamari and pickled olives and grapes to start. All tasty and at the appropriate temperatures. Then we ordered the arroz dish and the gambas which were excellent. We hadn't eaten that day and because the portions are perfect for splitting we had the chance to sample several dishes. We will definitely return and bring friends!
Solid tapas restaurant overall. Food was delicious and simply presented. Small but well curated wine and drink menu; we especially liked the variety of Gin & Tonics on offer. Beware the Pelligrosso G&T...it is spicy!
Only snag in our meal was the long wait for the steak. We assume it went to a different table by mistake as it came out 20 minutes after the last dish (Patatas Bravas; which it should have been paired with).
Other than that a great experience; we’ll be back!
What a wonderful team at el chipiron. We had a fabulous evening and our hostess was very kind and took time to explain us the menu and the various wonderful cocktails that they had to offer.
I would highly recommend their cocktails and the steak on a rock is a must have. Cheers!
Look forward to going back soon. Will try different items on the menu
The food was ok but not particularly exciting. There also wasn’t much choice. Also, disappointed in the sangria and the coffee drink I ordered. It was loud, too bright (felt like I was in a cafe) and over priced for the quality. Wasn’t horrible, just meh.
Great service and ambiance. Food was good, some items were greater than others. Seemed like some of the food was missing a bit of flavor but overall a good place to experience Spanish cuisine. Would go back.
We went here before a concert at the Long center and were looking forward to some of the items on their website menu. Unfortunately, the actual restaurant menu was more limited than the menu on the website. Service was pleasant, but not good. Our server did not seem to be familiar with the menu and we needed to point to each of the items on the menu when ordered. The menu states that items will be served when the kitchen prepares them - rather than when the diner wants them. This led to each of us eating alone at times, while the other watched - not good and not necessary. My starter was a room temperature item that could easily have been held until my wife's squid was ready. However, the server immediately served me my course and we then waited until the squid arrived. The olive selection was just a few standard olives - no uniqueness or character. The food was generally under-seasoned. Prices were fair but there was nothing that would prompt me to return.
Amazing place. Great vibe. The gintonics are unique and food is delicious. Definitely bringing my friends here
Total neighborhood gem! Happy Hour portions are small but only $5, cocktails are amazing and fun, the service at the bar was fast and friendly! I can't wait to go back!
Food and drinks were very, very good, but I would suggest you go with people you like because this dinner will be a loooonnnggg one. It IS a Spanish restaurant, so I get that they may be trying to make it a real Spanish experience, BUT they seem to be very understaffed. We had the option of buying "Kitchen Beers," so when we asked how many were working in the kitchen, our waitress said "just two"... on a Saturday night. There were also only two waitresses and one bartender. Please hire more people for a weekend night!
Other than the service, everything else was pretty great. They had run out of mussels, but the Gulf Shrimp, blistered, peppers and patatas bravas were delicious. Steak was a tad salty, but good. The Gintonic cocktails are a lot of fun, I definitely recommend trying one of them out.
Hopefully the owners see that they're getting dinged for service across some of their reviews and make some staffing adjustments.
The experience was amazing! A typical Spanish style of dining; with multiple courses through out the two hour dinner. The food was delicious, with fantastic combinations only top chefs know how to blend. I definitely recommend it to anyone who appreciates good foods.
The food is great and so is the service. Make sure to check out the cocktail selection. The best red sangria I’ve had.
What a wonderful experience! Amazing food and cocktails!
Fantastic Valentine's Day Menu!
The food here is amazing! I highly recommend. My boyfriend and I made a reservation for Valentine's Day. They had a specialized menu for the day and each of the plates were amazingly delicious. It did take some time each plate to come out but I could understand since the restaurant was really packed. It also helped prevent us from feeling full from all the food that kept coming out. Definitely a great place for special occasions.
Our Valentine’s Day meal was spectacular. Every dish was phenomenal. The dishes were well constructed and delicious, with unique presentation but classic, bold flavors. The only negative was that the hot rock was unable to cook our last few pieces of steak as well as the earlier prices since the rock was no longer hot enough. We will definitely be back.
Super friendly staff, nice variety of tapas, and stylish space. A great evening out
Español en Austin, cumpleaños magnífico!
Destacados: Tablas de queso, queso de cabra extraordinario, langostinos y mejillones fantásticos, carne de cordero y a la piedra excepcionales así como los gin&tonics.
Excellent service, they have the best gin & tonics in Texas and the food is authentic and delicious!
I will be back soon!
The meat served on a stone was a wonderful experience. Service was excellent!
This place is amazing. Just go - you will not be disappointed. Simple, fresh, local. One of the best meals I’ve had.
Increible servicio y excelente comida.!! Lo recomiendo ampliamente.!
Great food, loved our waiter and might be a gin and tonic convert (I’m a vodka girl). However, they were out of a lot of things - food and beverage - that we were looking forward to. Would definitely go back.
We went to El Chipiron for our anniversary and it was great. The Tapas were the perfect size an also get the steak on a rock. Our server was awesome. She was funny and nice.
