We had a fun, tasty dinner at East Street Tacos on Friday night. The host was welcoming and the staff was busy but friendly. A great selection and variety of tacos - lots of vegetarian and fish choices too. Loved the options of hard tacos, soft tacos and lettuce wraps. I understand that these are "street tacos", but the the taco size is a little small - lots and lots of filling, maybe too much for the size of the taco itself. Good wine and beer list, fun atmosphere. We'll be back!
The food was great! Fish tacos, hamachi jalapeño, truffle mac n cheese, etc. delicious! BUT it took a very long time to get our drink orders once we sat down. We eventually had to track down a server by getting up from our table. Then after ordering appetizers and getting two of them, they asked if we wanted any other food or drink as the kitchen was closing. We had t even gotten all of our apps, let alone entrees. How did we know if we needed more food? And our reservation was at 8:00. It was only 9:00 and there had been no mention or warning if the kitchen closing. The service was slow so we were not prepared for the last call. It was our friend's birthday, and they kindly brought out ice cream with a candle. Super nice. But he ice cream was old and yellow with freezer burn. This place has HUGE potential as the food was great, by hey need a manager to whip the service and procedures into place as well as give the window front and bathroom an upgrade. Hope the will improve because the food was good enough to want to go back with changes!
My family and I loved our experience here! Happy hour menu had an amazing selection. Oysters, salmon ceviche, fish tacos were very fresh. Can't wait to come back. Plus, I appreciated being able to make a reservation during happy hour. HH drinks could use some work; my mom enjoyed the princess cocktail, but the sucker punch and margarita tasted a bit off.
Loved it! Great happy hour!
Exquisite meal! Enjoyed everything we tried.
Portion size was small and expensive. Oysters were good though. Went for Sunday dinner but only 3 tables occupied.
Went there based on Yelp reviews, we just want to eat good seafood and fish. Got there by 4 just to get the $1 oyster HH.
The Oysters were great, very fresh. That's the only reason to come to this place.
We ordered a couple of appetizers and also were ok, for the main course we ordered the shrimp rice bowl and the Chilean sea bass.
Both were very disappointing. the shrimp rice bowl was bland, no taste, just 4 shrimps on top of rice. No magic.
But the Chilean sea bass was, apart of disappointing, a complete scam. two very (but very!) small pieces of fish on top of a mountain of rice for $36!. something completely different from the pics I saw from others reviews. Not sure if they run out fish, or they changed the cook, but it was a joke. Service was good and the place its ok too. Only be back to Oyster Happy hour.
We have never received such horrible service in a restaurant. There was a table in our view full of dirty dishes and glasses. We were greeted when we can in and ordered drinks and did not receive them for over 30 minutes. Every time we tried to get the waiter's attention we were ignored. A salad that was ordered was never received. They seemed very understaffed, but no apologies were made for the lack of service.
Food was great!!!!
We needed a place with local fare and the ability to take a table of 5 quickly, last minute. The service was good and the food fresh and unique.
Solid, inventive food. If you were looking for a seafood bar that has an Asian twist to it, you've found the right place. We didn't get too far into the menu, but the flavors and quality were solid, and the cocktails are tasty.
Great food, friendly and helpful staff. Very loud at most times.
The oyster options were extensive and more items on the menu looked great than we could eat in pone sitting. Went there a bit late on a weekday evening so the crowd had thinned out. Very personable service by not only our wait staff but the supporters as well. Looking forward to going back again.
Cioppino is our favorite, and the mini tuna tacos!
The small plates served during Happy Hour are excellent as is the selection of drinks. The Fish stew main course however, left a lot to be desired. It was bland and characterized mostly by pieces of over cooked fish.
Been here many times before... Food is great! Service is probably the worst I've ever been to!
Delicious food with a surprisingly wide variety (not just shellfish). Friendly service.
great clams w a different flavor to the broth. nice interior. good tasting water which is unusual for a restaurant. happy hour well drinks full strength. friendly staff. overall a very pleasant outcome from a random pick.
Solid choice for oysters in a variety of types and presentations. The menu is a bit complicated, as other reviewers mention, so stick to the basics as we did and you will be happy.
food was amazing however service was incredibly slow. we were not served soft drinks for almost thirty minutes.
Wonderful Service. Felt like we had our own personal server. Great recomendations.
Shell Shock is in desperate need of an anchor. Everything about the experience is all over the map. It's trying to be too many things, and is unsuccessful at all of it. Service is informal, but they also call in advance to check on reservations (which is usually done only by higher-end restaurants). There's a nice bar selection, and not a lot of bar bites to go along with it, and the execution of that bar selection needs a lot of work too. The menu itself is confusing, and many things aren't very nice either. Without focus, and on a crowded Castro Street, there's a lot of better options nearby.
Great see-food restaurant. Good food, fresh oysters, good for groups.
Menu is too large, which means it's hit or miss on items. Dishes are overpriced and small. I think the rice bowls and ramen are the best value.
The appetizers, ahi tacos and oyster nachos, were very good. However the poke rice bowls were not good. The poke was highly seasoned so you could not taste the fish. It gave the perception that the fish may not have been as fresh as it should be. The components of the bowl did not work well together.
Excellent happy hour food choices!!
Acoustic is terrible.
Second time at Shell Shock and as good as the first. I'm so happy to have this place to go to in my neighborhood!
Went on a Monday for their pan roasted mussels which were delicious. My brother said they were the best mussels he ever had. Mini ahi tacos (5 pieces on wanton shells) were tasty too.
Try to get here during happy hour-- drinks and many food items are reduced-- with oysters at $1 each during this time. Drinks are fun and yummy. Food was varied and all of it good. We loved the fish tacos and ahi bites.
We went here to celebrate our daughters graduation from Stanford. service was great and food very delicious. The copping was absolutely delicious. Restaurant had a great bar and since we went on Sunday, bottles of wine were 1/2 off, an added bonus to a wonderful dinner. If we are ever in Mountain View again, we would return.
Excellent oysters and fish dishes. Knowledgeable service. Very good Uni Pasta.
Read about Shell Shock on Facebook and decided to bring a group of friends here for dinner. First of all, Tuesday is a great evening as the restaurant isn't terribly crowded. The food was delicious, with one friend raving about their Cioppino. No problems with the food, drinks, desserts (OMG - try the Cappucino Mousse), coffee was great. The only issue was in paying, with matching the credit cards with the correct amounts. This really was a minor blip - I highly recommend Shell Shock for the immaculate and reasonably priced seafood and delicious dessert!
I go here with my boyfriend for special occasions ever since they opened! The fish tacos are the best I've had in Northern California. Try the booty call at the bar.
Loved the "small bites"! Cute little appetizers and very delicious
Food took a little longer in between dishes
I love the energy of this place. The staff was super responsive (and patient) with our large group. Food was yummy!
Enjoyed a Mother's Day dinner with my son and my mom.
A few friends and I got together and had a great time at Shell Shock. I had never been there and was very impressed with the many offerings in the menu that would satisfy the pickiest eater. We arrived around happy hour and promptly took advantage of the oyster ($1 a piece) and other specials. The chicken wings were especially tasty as were the oyster tacos and hamachi tartare. Everything was great including our very attentive and awesome server. The only miss though was the green tea garden dessert, otherwise, I would highly recommend Shell Shock for those craving seafood and Asian fusion bites. Enjoy!
Happy hour before 7pm. Service was not great on the night we dined, but the menu was extensive and even the happy hour food and drink menu had a lot of choices. The lobster roll was small than expected and not really worth the extra money for the uni treatment, but still tasty. The mac and cheese balls were huge, you get two and two is plenty for an appetizer for 2 people. The pork belly kabobs were extremely good and ahi tuna bites were very delicious. Hubby said he liked the oyster salmon delish (2 per order on happy hour). I had the lobster ravioli which was pretty good, raviolis on the end were not as hot as I would have liked; this could be due to the plate that was used I think. Overall a great meal, we would love to come back to try more of the happy hour specials and hope for more attentive service next time!
Delicious oysters and seafood fettuccine
