ALWAYS top shelf!
We arrived earlier than our reservation on a concert night. We were seated in the bar immediately which was fabulous. Food and service were excellent despite the crowd.
I was in charge of finding a restaurant before our concert and I came across this place. It was in walking distance of the venue and had several options for parking. (Some free) We had 8 in our group and we were placed at a round table. Easy to converse with everyone and food was great. I would recommend wearing layers because we were right next to the wood fire and it was considerably warmer. It will be great for the cold Minnesota winter months as I will insist we go back!!
Went to dinner before a concert. The server was nice and efficient. Our wine glasses were never empty, someone was always quick to fill us up when they got low. I got the halibut special, it was very good. We were seated next to the fireplace which was very cozy.
Absolutely! We had dinner there before a concert at the Excel. It was a great way to unwind before the show. We were able to park in the lot and then walk 2 blocks to Excel, avoiding the need to move the car to one of the overpacked ramps. The service was welcoming and the food was great.
Great experience, food was very tasty, perfect time for us.
The breakfast menu at the Downtowner Woodfire Grill is extensive and interesting. Our food was delicious and nicely presented. The room is great and was perfect for a rather blustery and wet day outside.
Great food and good service. Our waiter could have been a little more attentive as we ran out of water a few times and he brought our son a special birthday dessert (which we did appreciate) but he neglected to ask anyone else if they wanted dessert - We had to ask him for dessert menus.
The food was really good, and while wait times were quite long, it was worth it. Service was scarce but good as the staff were friendly and helpful. Liked the atmosphere and ambiance as well
This is one of our favorite places in St Paul.
Great breakfast for a group of 10. Watching the marathon
Been there lots of times before it's still awesome
Very elegant and ambient. Excellent, tasteful menu and setting
This was my first time eating at this restaurant and I was blown away! Ambiance was great, service and food was exceptional!
Great setting, very rich, comfortable dining room. The crab cakes, artichoke dip, and ceviche were excellent. Our waitress was a bit aloof but prompt and professional throughout the meal.
Our party had mixed reviews on the entrees. The rib-eye was fantastic, as was a shrimp dinner salad. However, the fire-roasted chicken was a big disappointment after the amazing starters. The chicken was well-seasoned but very dry and the plain rice (with 5 pieces of assorted vegetables) did nothing to offset the dryness.
Don't forget to finish the meal with a great cup of coffee and the Apple-pear Crisp!
Great atmosphere. It felt very welcoming. Great service. I’m coming back and I think I’ll make it my spot for Sunday’s brunch /breakfast. Thank you!
Very nice restaurant servers were friendly . Went for breakfast the food was great
We had made Open Table reservations for The Downtowner for an early dinner before the Luke Combs concert at Xcel Center. We were seated immediately and had an outstanding server. He was helpful with our menu options and selections. For appetizers, we started with crab cakes and bruschetta - both were very good. Fresh flatbread that was warm and delicious prior to our steak entrees. Yummy mashed potatoes and steaks cooked to order. If we’re back in the area, we’ll be back to try the wood fired pizzas.
Always great food and fantastic service. Our go to place in St. Paul.
We came here to eat before a concert. We were seated right away thanks to having a reservation. The lighting is perfect if you want to be in a relaxing environment while you enjoy your dinner. The kitchen was open to the dining area but surprisingly quiet. The waitress was quick to ask us if we wanted drinks and gave us enough time to look over the menu without feeling rushed. The food was great, presentation, temp, and taste were spot on. I will definitely come back here for a date night. Also they have free parking!
Birthday was ignored. Steak was inedible. Couldn’t cut it. The part eaten was swallowed with little chewing as too tough. Complined and still charged. From out of town with guests. Wouldn’t recommend
Great menu selection and wine pairings!
Service was terrible.. Waited 20 mins after arriving just to get drinks and menus
This was our first visit to Downtowner Woodfire Grill, and we found it amazing. Our table ordered the filet, strip, pork chops, and lamb chops and everyone raved about their food. Our server, Angie, was helpful and attentive. I highly recommend Downtowner Woodfire Grill!
Server was a bit slow; manager was very helpful. Food was very good.
We had a family gathering of 12 ladies, the service was great, everyone enjoyed their meal and we could have conversations without yelling! We will be back.
Very nice place for a pre-theater dinner. Lots of menu choices and timely service. They even have free parking. One thing that would enhance their meals however is is a more interesting bread basket. Their flat bread is like chewing cloth. A more varied and tasty variety of breads would be greatly appreciated.
We had a party of six of us and we all enjoyed our meals. One person ordered salmon and thought it was okay but not delicious. I ordered a chicken pear salad that was very good. One person ordered a steak and thought it was very good. One person ordered chicken alfredo and he thought it had no flavor. Two people ordered shrimp kabobs and they thought they were delicious!
Fantastic! Made reservation for next time before we left the restaurant it was so good!
Server was A+. Thank you for all the attention on my Dad’s 90th Birthday!
Our server Zach was excellent! Great food and drinks. We’ll be back.
Our reservation was for 6 and 2 extra people showed up which they graciously accommodated. It was a busy Friday night prior to The Who concert at the Xcel. The service and food was great. Everyone seemed pleased with their choices ranging from steak to ceviche. The only negative from one in our party was a lack of quality tap beer but he is a picky brewmaster! Definitely recommended !
Always lovely-wonderful food and service. Love coming here!
As expected great food great service
Waited a half hour after being seated for anyone to even show up at our table. Finally went to the table host and had to ask if we had a server, then did get nice service
Celebrating a40th birthday
Food was good but a little expensive. Disappointed that a side salad didn’t come with the meal.
We truly enjoyed the privacy and ability to hear each other! Good food, service and ambience.
Nice selection and flavors . Kabobs were good and salads fresh. Appetizers were a little short on prep. Nice place to eat
While the food was very good, the hostess was very rude. Not only to me when I arrived, but also to the person I was meeting who had arrived just a few minutes before me.
The waitress was nice, however a little pushy in trying to get us to order the crepes, which we did not.
Overall, it was a good place, but the workers should be trained better in customer service.
