The food was interesting and excellent. Every small plate we ordered had unique flavors that we really enjoyed. Our server was great, very knowledgeable about the food and made some great recommendations. The only negative happened up our arrival. We had a reservation and went we arrived at the host stand, the host did not smile, did not make eye contact, did not greet us, yawned and eventually just asked if we had a reservation. We were seated very near her during dinner and noticed her leaning on to the counter where the cooks were placing food, her hands and chin on the counter. She looked bored and was always looking at her phone. Very unprofessional for a restaurant with this caliber of food. The initial experience could have been much better. Still, I'd recommend it for the food!
The food was delicious! Our service was great and the red Mexican wine was the best I’ve ever tasted!
Fabulous weekend dinner! Certainly better than average. Super fun on a date or with friends. The small plates are incredible, very creative and delicious. Excellent service.
Hector Ruiz and team have created another fantastic restaurant. Don Raul is a small space that packs a big punch. Excellent food (I have gone twice and tried 8 items from the menu-all top notch-Nopales, Ceviche, and Lubina are my favorites so far), excellent service (by Hector and some of his family members on some nights), good wine/beer selection. The patio space is well done also. The only thing Don Raul is missing is a full liquor license so Hector and team can create craft cocktails with tequila, mexcal, etc. That may be coming in the fall of 2019. You will not regret going to Don Raul.
What another great restaurant in Minneapolis. Food is scrumptious and the service is outstanding. A real gem!
Excellent evening! Our second time there. The food was fabulous, as was the service. We'll definitely be going back!
We enjoyed the food and the experience but found the servings, one apiece, to be a bit skimpy. No bread came with the meal either. If we had ordered a fifth serving to share, that would have been better, but I am used to ordering one entree per person and that being enough and enough cost too.
An elegant neighborhood restaurant that delivers interesting and tasty food in a pleasant space, good service too. The food is small plates and 3 or 4 entrees are ample for 2. Nice wine selection too. Tables are not jammed together which is nice, also a small patio not on the street.
Highly recommend for a fun meal.
Excellent food. Excellent flavors and combination of flavors. Unique food items combined with great sauces. Lamb shank is the best!!!!!!!!!!
Excellent venue overall
We love this place. The food is exceptional. Very interesting combinations. Always the freshest ingredients. The chefs are amazing. Service is great.
Food was wonderful. Very flavorful and eclectic dishes. Scallops were cooked perfectly and seasoned nicely. Duck tacos were also excellent. Service was very confused and brought food to wrong tables and more than once to some tables. I think the wait staff has some kinks to work out as the restaurant is still very new. If they can work out the service kinks it has the potential to be a great restaurant as the food is amazing.
As usual, his food and service were wonderful, however, I think the space could us some work.... window shades on the west facing windows and maybe three less tables
Amazing food, each plate is a different culinary journey. Superb flavors paired with an unforgettable experience. Definitely coming back!
Food was good, but it was very hot in the room and a sticky evening.
We really enjoy Cafe Ena so we'll say that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Outstanding small plates. Very nice by-the-glass wine list. Service is spot-on (Thanks Tim!).
We've been there twice and are working our way through the entire menu. So far everything has been outstanding. Our server both times was Tim who is knowledgeable and friendly. Great local dining option.
As usual Hector has outdone himself with his latest restaurant. All the small plates we ordered were great. The wait staff even gave us one on the house. It is a little on the expensive side.
Liked the small space and the service was attentive. The food was well presented and tasty. Just a bit expensive for the fare overall. Wine suggestions were very good.
Fabulous wine list, the food was delicious and our waiter was outstanding!!!
Service was great very knowledgeable and friendly, prices were a little high for the small portions, it is a tapas style menu but the prices are more like a full size portion. The patio is nice but some flowers or something was missing.
The food is good but not great. A bit too expensive for the quality level
Enjoyed the evening The food was interesting and creative and beautiful to the eye. We had the cervice and the duck tacos, both delightful and are eager to come back to try several other dishes. Even though the room is small it was not noisy and we could carry on a conversation with ease. Darrell, our waiter was very accommodating and knowledgable about the food. Would be nice to have a house wine by the glass more moderately priced. All in all a great experience
We had a fantastic dinner for my husband’s birthday. We split 4 dishes, which was perfect for us.
My wife and I shared 3 dishes. Two, the Langostino and ceviche were among the best dishes I’ve had in the Twin Cities and I’m a meat eater. The 3rd was a meat dish which I can’t recall the name of but it was very good too.
Excellent food and service like all of hectors restaurants...
The food is spectacular if you like fusion food this is great just remember the plates are small i think I ended up trying at least 3 items which was fun to do
The food was outstanding. Mixed service - our server was not all that attentive at first, but eventually was on point. Weirdly casual tome to the service from our server; not poor, just didn't fit the ambiance or the way other servers/hostess seemed to be.
Very interesting menu. We enjoyed sharing 4 dishes plus a dessert. All were well prepared and delivered with a good explanation of the dish. We look forward to dining here again!
Good food. Great service. Nice wine list. Can't wait to use the cute patio!
Group of 4 ordered 8 food and 2 dessert items and shared. All were delicious with favs being the tomate frito, langosta, tacos de pato and the pato dish. Yum!
Fantastic, flavorful small plates.
Don Raul 49 was an incredible surprise. The food was extraordinary. Darryl our server, was a delight. He knew the menu and made excellent suggestions. The sea bass was some of the best I have had. I highly recommend it, and will return soon!
Beautiful food and friendly staff
We decided to try Don Raul for the first time on Mother's Day and it did not disappoint. What a great find! The food and service are great, so we will definitely be back (especially because we live only a few blocks away).
The tapas are pricey, but when you look at the quality and unique mixture of flavors it is worth the experience. The mole sauce is wonderful and delicate, not heavy as tasted in some Mexican dishes. You must try the lamb chops! They were in incredible!!!! I would appreciate the beer list upgrading a bit to include Belgium style or a small variety of craft beers. All in all we had a very satisfying and fun experience.
I would definitely recommend Don Raul's. The service was excellent and the food was interesting and quite good. I would like to return and try some tapas that we didn't try the first time. I would love to see a salad choice added to the menu as I personally missed having some greens. Our waiter Darrel was so personable, informative and was available to give us information and help with whatever we needed. He encouraged us to try one of the Mexican wines and I had the Cabernet which was quite nice with our meal.
We had an overall great experience at Don Raul, the tacos and scallops very my favorites. Very good wine list, we enjoyed a white wine from Mexico. The service was excellent. The noise level was moderate. The food came quickly, we had 3 dishes which seemed like the perfect amount. We'll be back. I do hope they open the outside seating soon.
Food was outstanding, service was excellent, elbow-to-elbow with the people next to you...but that's part of the charm. Definitely a "must go"... but not a regular neighborhood "go to" because of the $$$.
Fantastic food! The only issue we had was a 30 minute wait, even though we had a reservation. Perhaps they will smooth out this type of issue once they are open a bit longer. There's no place to sit and wait (or even get out of the way) and have a glass of wine, so it's awkward. We felt we couldn't order a glass of wine while waiting because there was hardly enough space to stand. Once we were seated, our server was attentive and could "feel" our frustration. He quickly worked hard to bring our wine and the various items we ordered. Overall we loved it! We will definitely return and have already recommended Don Raul to our friends
