Djangos is a solid, consistent and tasty place to visit. Servers are very attentive and sharp. Can't really go wrong here, in my experiences it's been tops for what Des Moines has to offer.
Awesome food -- tables a bit close together. Felt like I was having a conversation with the people at the next table. Impressed that the woman at the door actually read my reservation comments. It was nice to be acknowledged.
Best oysters in Iowa
Scallops were buttery and delicious add the shrimp
Beet salad is amazing
They have a great happy hour selection; highly recommend charcuterie - affordable, delicious. And the martinis!! Wow.
My experiences at Django are consistent with the food, love the oyster choices, and Loretta is my go to server for years. I enjoy looking across at the Sculpture Park too!
Great restaurant in the middle of downtown. Very fun place to be. We celebrated a birthday there!
We have dined here before and have always enjoyed the experience. However, this time service was only "fair" at best. We ordered oysters and shrimp for appetizers which were served together on a single platter of crushed ice but our server do not provide either appetizer plates or shrimp/oyster forks.
Due to, I suspect, limited service and kitchen staff, our main course was significantly delayed. While my wife's filet was cooked perfectly, my salmon was overcooked.
Our two course dinner took 2 hours. I expected better from Django.
Based on their prior performance, we will return.
Excellent meal with my family for my birthday. If you are looking for an upscale dining experience with a unique menu such as several duck dishes, steak tartare, etc. Djanago is the place.
The food was great! We were seated immediately and the server was very attentive.
Outside of one bad experience having to do with the hostess, Django has become one of our favorite Des Moines restaurants. The wait staff is always friendly and never overbearing. I have never felt rushed and the same was true for our most recent visit. The ratatouille and Oysters Rockefeller are must haves for us. I have also recently become a big fan of raw oysters, and these have been delicious every time I have had them at Django.
Except for the appetizer trend, this is one restaurant where I haven’t had the same meal twice. Last night it was the lobster spaghetti. The pasta was perfect, al dente as it should be. The cream based sauce was a delight and was sufficient to flavor the pasta without overwhelming it. The lobster added just the right touch to this excellent dish.
My only complaint is the noise level. Even with the reduced seating due to COVID, the volume quickly reaches an uncomfortable level. I’ll admit to a touch of hearing loss but I shouldn’t have to lean in to my wife just to hear what she says, or ask the waiter to repeat because his voice is overwhelmed by the background noise. This is without large groups and, as I mentioned, reduced capacity. As much as I dislike a noisy environment, every thing else about this place will keep me returning.
This is a dining experience, not just a meal. We will be back at our earliest opportunity.
The food was outstanding, especially the 8 oz. filet and the escargot appetizer. Service was attentive and friendly. We'll definitely be back!!
Way too loud unable to even hear the person sitting across the table from you. Hard to read small print menu with no lighting. Out of multiple food items they should tell you before you even arrive. Just a typical try to hard, charge you too much Des Moines restaurant!!!
I would have to say it's my top restaurant in Des Moines ..
From the food, the management Juan ,
my favorite server Loretta ,
my favorite bartender Andrew .
The ability to bring your own wine and champagne ..
the awesome bread..
the fabulous French fries..
killer charcuterie boards.
It really is a top notch place to go.
I was treating my sister who was visiting from out of town. I had made a reservation and request for a table by the window a month earlier. It was obvious that the person at the front desk had not even looked at requests, so we were seat at a table as far from the natural light that one could be.
Great food great service, our favorite place in Des Moines.
Amazing! Wonderful! We loved the ratatouille and the desserts the most! The French toast dessert was our favorite. Will be our new place to go when we visit our son. Can't say enough about it!!!!
The food was fantastic, ambiance was cozy, and service was friendly. Can’t wait to go back!
Lindsey was our server and she was fantastic. Our friend had a shell allergy and she guided her as to what to eat. We had the beet salad, duck and steak frites. Everything was delicious!
We loved taking advantage of “no corkage fee” and brought a great bottle of wine. Get the duck frites - outstanding! Best entree at our table was Filet Rossini - great steak! Really appreciated cherry sundae on the house for our birthday boy. Great service and great menu; we look forward to returning.
One of the meals, Roasted Chicken was over cooked. Chicken was dry and potato Rossi blackened. Oyster Rockefeller and the Croquette Monsieur sandwich were great.
Amazing food! Fabulous service; attentive and so kind!
What a SURPRISE! Right there in downtown Des Moines. A true delight from the service to the exceptional food. On POINT! Never had French food - try it here!
Out waitress was absolutely awesome.
Use to go to this restaurant a lot and really liked everything about until they moved location. I have now eaten in their current location and have not been that pleased. It seems that the food has suffered and service just average. Not worth the cost of the abeyance.
Great window table. Solid, creative cocktail list. Good wines at fair prices. Service very professional, attentive and unobtrusive. Charcuterie board delicious as was lobster spaghetti and desert. Wonderful evening.
My wife and I reserved a table at Django for our 11th anniversary. We ordered the vegetarian poutine and a cheese flight as starters, and both were delicious. The poutine is a nice departure from what you may be used to ordering from other local restaurants, and the cheese flight was delicious and well worth the cost.
For entrees we ordered the pappardelle and the coq au vin. The pappardelle was amazing, but Django's coq au vin is one of the best things I've ever eaten. Highly recommended.
For dessert we ordered the cherry sundae, which again, was delicious.
Our server was polite and helpful. The atmosphere was warm, though the noise level was a little on the loud side and I often had to ask our server to step closer or speak up so I could hear her.
Overall a great experience. This is our first time dining at Django, and definitely will not be our last!
I think we had a younger server who was very slow- took a half hour fir our drinks to arrive. Busy night and by 7 it was quite loud- more so than we normally experienced
The food was great! Great Happy Hour prices- free Birthday Dessert! We’ll go back again !
Stylish decor. Good cocktails. Tasty food. Outstanding service.
Beautiful restaurant and delicious food! My husband got the steak frites and I got the moules frites. We shared a duck confit appetizer that was similar to a Shepard’s pie. Totally delicious. Excellent cocktails as well. I asked why this place looks just like Americana inside and the server said all the places on that street used to be car dealerships and are set up the same inside! Highly recommended for a nice evening out.
Overall the food most importantly tasted delicious
We went for restaurant week and the $35 deal they offered was sensational - cold leek soup, potato dish with duck confit and a veal entree. We felt it was worth twice what we paid. All 3 dishes were exceptional!
Great as always
Wonderful restaurant. The food, though somewhat expensive, was delicious!
Incredible food and service! Our favorite place for a date night.
Tuesday of Restaurant Week. 7pm. “I’m sorry, we are out of the Restaurant Week menu.” Inexcusable. Why have such a menu if you don’t plan sufficiently to serve it when it is ordered? And no Plan B is offered other than the overpriced main menu. There is one reason to eat here: no corkage fee. Well, the setting is nice overlooking the Pappajohn Sculpture Garden. Since the move to Grand Ave, however, the food has declined. Service too, but have to give a COVID break on that.
My husband and I went to Django for our Anniversary and it was a great time from start to finish. They had a three course meal with wine pairings for Restaurant Week which I had. All three dishes were excellent and the wine was great too. My husband had the French Onion soup to start and a Croque Madam. They were both delicious! Our server was extremely efficient and polite! 10/10
Great food, staff, and happy hour! They never disappoint!
Everything was excellent the manager was super accommodating in a special request! Highly recommend!!
