Service was great. Menu was limited and a little pricey. Food was just OK. Portions were a little small. If I had to grade it C+
Was not bad but was. It great either.
Don’t eat here. It isn’t what it used to be.
Great food. Friendly and helpful staff. Fun setting.
Love it! chef Merlin and Sammy our waitperson all great
Excellent food, excellent service, fun ambiance and personable chef! We had a wonderful time and the found the food to be outstanding and inventive! A NOLA favorite for sure...
Hair in food, said they were serving champagne and provided cava, delayed seating over 1 hr. past reservation time, service was rude, food never came and we left.
The food was just okay...nothing remarkable. Everything seemed to come with honey mustard, which was weird, even weirder was that there was nothing really special about the honey mustard - it was just bottled dressing on the oysters, on the crawfish beignets, etc. The steak was okay, but no real garish, so just looked kind of plain. The duck delight was also okay but could have come from any Chinese restaurant, nothing about it felt like it was coming from a New Orleans traditional restaurant. The wait staff are also the bartenders, so depending on the size of tables and drink orders you can be waiting a long time for any service.
Dick and Jenny's has, for years, been a restaurant I always try to go to when I am in New Orleans. Not anymore. This restaurant has really gone downhill since I was here last year. They had 1 server for each half of the restaurant and 1 bartender for the entire restaurant. A staff of 3 with the chef and his wife doing all the cooking. It took over 30 minutes to even get a glass of wine. Food was coming out so slow, the chef finally brought out free appetizers to appease the angry diners.
Reservation at 5:30. After two people asked how many people in the party, eventually a third person brought us to a table. Apologetic after waiting sometime we placed our order. Waiter came back and asked for it again. Then asked if they had sweet tea. Left and never came back. Got a cup of soup to the table and bread and over the next hour received many “I am sorry” but never came back with drinks. Or the appetizers. Or the dinner. There was plenty of wait staff. You could see in the kitchen and see staff in there working. The table next to us had been there at least a half hour before and hadn’t got any food but they got apology for a delay but no food. After almost two hours got up and left.
We made a 5PM reservation-We came for x-mas dinner-there weren’t many diners(<1/2 full) it appeared that the entire restaurant had just emptied out of a massive crowd
and the staff seemed in utter disarray!
We waited 10-15 min for a table , but were then tolds”that the entrees would be a long wait- we put orders in by 6PM- then were given appetizers and drinks at apps 6:30PM - while dining we heard a fracas between a group of 5 diners and their waiter- they complained about waiting for over 2& 1/2 hours for their meal- then they were told that their food was actually ready- then they told the waiter they didn’t believe him- then he started to
Everyone left the as scream”are you calling me an f’ing liar- then the party of 5 started to swear back- then they all tore out of the restaurant.
Diners who stayed were silent. The remaining staff was very apologetic for their unhinged waiter! Everyone was embarrassed-
We did finally get our entrees at 7:30PM - they were delicious but tough to”stomach” after so much hysteria
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL
We went here for Christmas dinner and walked out after 40 minutes with only water. Should not be open on Christmas Day if can’t handle it.
Food was great but service was horrible. The one person who actually worked there was juggling everything as gracefully as possible but it took 1 hour to get drinks. I am hoping this was a one off experience for them as the food was delicious!
First of all shame on Open Table. This is NO LONGER Dick & Jenny’s restaurant. Terrible service. Most of the staff were extremely drunk. Food never arrived, orders were taken 3x but no food. Staff was belligerent around children. Ruined Christmas dinner. Never ever go.
We made reservation for dinner for 4 several weeks before going there. It took an hour for the waiter to get the drink order. We waited for 3 hours after we were seated and still didn't get any food. The waiter kept saying "you are next", but never got the food. We were there from 7:45 to 10: 30 and finally left since the waiter finally fessed up that they are short staffed and the kitchen is running late. Of course, nothing else is open at that time of the night. It was the worst experience I've ever had!!! They should not take customers if they can't provide the service.
The site is a wonderful take on a Creole cottage. It is easy to access. Parking is on the street but convenient, We arrived and were promptly seated. The staff was very nice and attentive. There were some time glitches through the kitchen but the staff was always checking on us and seeing thst we were being tended to. It appeared that somehow the restaurant had been badly overbooked for a holiday evening. (management/booker issues) The staff were again pleasant and attentive, When our food came, WOW! Boudin Balls appetizers, flash fried oysters, and crayfish and goat cheese wrapped in puff pastry. Then the entre's... OMG... Crab 3 ways (Cakes, lump meat, and fried soft shell) Duck confit. and a rich creamy seafood pasta bowl. It was a bit dragged out, but it was an utterly wonderful meal for Christmas Eve. Thanks so much 'Dick and Jenny's.
Our reservations were at 5:45, we arrived promptly. We were seated and forgotten about for 45 minutes even though the dining room was empty except for one other table. Had it not been Christmas Eve, we would have left. We repeatedly tried to get someone's attention. Our appetizer order was finally taken and it took another hour to arrive. Then there was a 2 hour delay to get our entrees, half of which arrived incorrectly. After speaking with the manager, waiter and countless others, they finally agreed to comp the wine we drank during this ordeal. The food was good, however the service, attendance and overall experience was awful. Not money well spent. The restaurants prices are way too high for this type of experience. We would not return, or recommend this restaurant to anyone else. Our family's tradition is to go to a nice restaurant in the area for Christmas Eve dinner. We have never had this bad an experience with any other restaurant.
Absolutely awesome food and Sammy was wonderful!
Was actually surprised by how good the food was! They weren’t busy at all but it took a long time to get our entrees. We weren’t mad about it, the food was worth the wait!
The Gumbo was amazing.
Wish I could give it zero stars. Not sure what happened to this place but it’s not the same as it used to be. Took forever to just get waters and bread. The waiter was high on something and didn’t get our order in right at all. Basically all he did was walk around in circles. After two hours they kept telling us our food was “being plated” 3 times.
When it finally came out they forget one entree that we decided to not even get. The filet was over cooked and dry (which should’ve been the easiest thing on the very small menu they have to cook) and the salmon was still swimming. Another meal was also lukewarm. They did give us one free round of drinks but then when they brought the bill it was still almost $500. Not even one of the entrees or anything else was taken off. Do better Dick and Jenny’s. Or Merlin or whoever owns this place now. Something is wrong.
Water refills were on point.
It had my first visit to Dick and Jenny s in about 3 years. I was pleasantly surprised at the food and excellent service. The environment hasn’t changed but remains a cute cottage in a residential and industrial neighborhood. The fish was to die for, excellent ettoufee, as was the crab 3-ways . We were too full for dessert but will try that on my next visit. I will not wait so long to come back, especially since it’s in my neighborhood. Keep up the great food and service.
We had a great night for the birthday celebration. The service was attentive and had excellent suggestions. The food was outstanding.
Year number 2 of Thanksgiving linch at Dick and Jenny’s. We are making this a tradition! It is delicious and there is no clean up involved!!
This place was terrible, we were sat at a table given water and bread then the wait staff just ignored us. I passed the time killing what I think were ants on the table and reading the menu. Now the menu did not have a lot of the stuff their website stated. Now there was only three tables with customers that should have been a red flag. After 35 minutes we got up and left, as we were leaving the waitress said “Thank You for Coming” Wow, the only time we were addressed was as we left. There are so many good restaurants in NOLA stay away from this place!!!
Summary: Above average but inconsistent food with poor service equals below average value for New Orleans.
With any review, I try and add context. This was dinner for 7 family members at 7:15 PM on a Saturday. There was a simultaneous party of 14 adjacent to us. This was my second time here after booking a very successful new years eve dinner two years ago. I live in New Orleans and consider myself aware of standards for the dishes we ordered, the quality of service and the relative price point for the meal.
The restaurant was conveniently located on Tchopitoulas st. We were set promptly. We were set directly next to a large party. We were set too close for the staff to be able to access one side of the table and such that getting in and out of the table were inconvenient. Basic water service was late. Menu was available and a large specials menu also available.
We ordered several appetizers for the table and a few drinks. The first wave of appetizers appeared timely and well made however, one of our orders (a $48 crab dish) arrived way later. Our entree orders were not taken and the table was sitting idle for a long time.
Entrees took more than one hour to prepare and were served in waves with more than 15 minutes from the first to the last. A second round of drinks were not delivered in a timely manner. The final dish to arrive was a red fish. This was by far the poorest presentation and preparation of the fish I have ever seen in New Orleans. The piece was sporadically seasoned and broken into many pieces before being lumped on top of some scoops of cous cous. The rest of the food was good but just that good. Not great. The prices were at a point of much more prestigious restaurants in the city but well below.
The final issue was the check. Multiple mistakes and overcharges were present and the bill required correction twice prolonging a night my family and the staff wished would have been over an hour earlier. Tough night for sure.
I was at the restaurant in July and the meal was outstanding. The food was very good but not memorable. Maybe next time.
Very disappointed in the decline of this great restaurant. I suspect they are having trouble acquiring and keeping servers. Servers seem new and unfamiliar with the menu. We recently dined there and felt like the Addams Family was working the place. We had had a bad experience with service in the spring but wanted to give it another shot. Back then, the food was excellent. This time, not so much. Definitely not worth the money. Disappointed--it once was so excellent. Let's hope they get back in their groove!
Service was slowww. Food was good and came out pretty quick.
Awesome food! Great service!
Definitely understaffed... I guess no one wanted to come to work after LSU-Bama game. They ran out of beer, ordered the filet (med rare) which obviously didn’t just come off the grill. Barely warm and dry...obviously cooked earlier that day if not the day before. It was very tender but for $48 that steak should have been cooked to perfection
From the time we walked to our table our waitress began rushing us to order food. It was uncomfortable since we were with friends we wanted to enjoy our drinks with and visit before ordering for at least 10 to 15 minutes. One of the meals arrived cold and when he asked to have it heated up a little, it came back still cold.
Three of us enjoyed our meals and when we asked about dessert, there was only one to choose from. We would not rush back there.
Strong smell of cleaning fluid or room spray made it difficult to enjoy our meals. The crab cake topped with crabmeat and shrimp was very good. Our other dishes were so-so. Our server was delightful. Overall, cute place, but the food didn't cut it. This was the third visit for one of our party, with the same impression of the food.
Great quality food and drinks. They do a great job of taking care of you. If you get a chance, have dinner at the bar.
Service was painfully slow. Food was mediocre at best and value was not there. Restaurant is not adequately staffed or prepared in any way. My fish “special” tasted liked cardboard and the accompanying fries were soggy.
Experience started out nice and very accommodating. They forgot our appetizer order then sent them out with our entrees. The food was not very good either. The duck was dry pieces of cubed meat that was flavorless. The etoufee was watery and nothing special. The charbroiled oysters were soggy and barely cooked with the cheese unmelted as well as lacking bread for the sauce. We requested bread but it never arrived. Very disappointing experience.
Dick and Jenny’s was awesome! The quality of the food was outstanding. They were shorthanded on the servers, so it took a good while to get our food. But it was definitely worth the wait!
Food was very good, service lacked a little, need to remind our server a second time when we asked for something. We were given the bill for another table. One of our party was charged a second amount on her card which had nothing to do with our charges. All in all we would return as the food was good and ambiance was nice. Parking was not a problem.
Our favorite restaurant. We have so many happy memories of coming here we visit every time we’re in town
Chef Merlin is excellent in the kitchen but also very attentive to his clients
I don't believe the quality of food and the portion size was worth price. I think I could have eaten the same quality of dish at a number of other restaurants. I did like the calmer atmosphere and smaller, intimate setting.
