Demera Ethiopian Restaurant
Went with the family. My father was very excited to try Ethiopian and the food exceeded all of our expectations.
The food was really good. I went with my daughters and it wasn’t so spicy so they could handle it and they loved it too. We made a reservation knowing the place is busy, and it was! The service was excellent as well. We will go back there again!
Delicious food- the beef sambusas and the shai tea were the best part. A bit pricy but overall quality food.
The restaurant is excellent. Staff and service are always good. Reservations are kept and they seat you on time.
As always the food was fantastic, the ambiance very friendly and warm (even though it was about 7 degrees). The bar was very busy but people were enjoying themselves as both my date and I were. Thank you Demera!
Fantastic dinner. Wonderful service!
The service is always great there, the staff so kind and the food is jus amazing, this is our regular place to eat Ethiopian food...
We went during Black Restaurant Week and were lucky to be able to sample multiple dishes from the menu. Everything was delicious, and the service was excellent. We would definitely go back.
Food was ok not great. “Heat” and “spice” dumbed down to suit local palate. I wanted the real thing! Real teff injera was a plus as I’m gluten free. Basil lime sorbet tasted like frozen pesto.... yuck!
What a great deal! The price covers 2 people and is plenty of food (even for people who eat a lot!).
We both thought everything about Demera was excellent. They were busy and running behind, but the maître d’ was spot on with his waiting time estimate and we were seated at a large communal table in about 10 minutes.
We were there for Chicago restaurant week, so we ordered a particular dinner for two but included a bottle of wine. The wine came right out was delicious, and it was quickly followed by our beet salad appetizer.
For the entrée we had three vegetables and three meats, we mixed it up between mild and spicy, etc.
Dessert was the flowers chocolate cake - always a hit with me!
Great experience all around… We left a stuffed and a happy and it didn’t cost us a fortune!!
Wonderful! I had a great experience. The service was excellent
Wonderful as always-- grateful to be able to sample some new things on the Restaurant Week Menu. Beet salad w/ jalapeños was phenomenal, as was the gluten free flourless chocolate cake. So wonderful to have so many gluten free options, though I wish the gluten free injera had a little more sourdough teff flavor and was darker. Tried the fish for the first time and it was great addition to doro tibs, red lentils, cabbage, and collard greens. Hospitality and service can't be beat.
Service and food was excellent. Will absolutely be back!
The meal was amazing! I’m glad I finally tried this place. Our server was so nice and explained everything very well. She was super cute and told us the customs in “her country” and explained the background of the food. We all really enjoyed the entire experience and are looking forward to going back again.
The bread was so sour it masked the taste of the food items on the platter. I wish there was a bread with no or neutral taste to use to pick up the food. Maybe provide a fork or spoon to pick up the food.
Amazing food and staff. Must try this place! Friendly staff, great food selection and this is the place to try authentic Ethiopian food!
Great service, food, and wine! I highly recommend this establishment! Love this place and everyone that works there!
Amazing lunch deal for restaurant week
First time guests. Fantastic food, flavor profiles were off the charts!!!
Not much to say. Great food and great service in a very friendly atmosphere.
The food was very good. The hostess was very nice. The owner or manager checked in when I first got there and was very nice. The server was very inattentive and gave me a nasty look when I asked for a second glass of wine after ignoring me several times as she walked by me when I tried to get her attention. It took forever to get a check and she never checked in to see if I needed anything. They weren't that busy so she didn't seem overwhelmed. Not sure what the problem was.
Best Ethiopian food I have ever had. Very tasty and great service.
Love this place! They made us feel special and taken care of every step of the way. From the ordering of cocktails to the delicious dessert they brought for my sister’s birthday celebration everything was outstanding.
This is the best Ethiopian food that my family has had outside of Ethiopia itself!
Simply the best Ethiopian food in Chicago. . . We always enjoy it!
I love this restaurant. I've been to at least four other Ethiopian places on Broadway, and there's great things about each of them. Demera is hands down my favorite. The food is absolutely amazing, and it's super accessible for people with dietary restrictions. I'm vegan, and I can eat all of their vegetarian options. They also have gluten free injera available. Seriously, one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago.
It was great. We had a last minute modification and they were able to with no hassle accommodate us at that moment. Service was exceptional and fast. Food was amazing as always.
This was our very first Ethiopian experience. We needed assistance with the menu but the waitress was not helpful and seemed a bit annoyed with our questions. Furthermore, we had a person at the table who was sensitive to 'heat' and when we asked for a glass of simple syrup from the bar to assist in cutting any heat that might end up in her dish, we were confronted with a great deal of completely unnecessary push back. She ended up outside on the sidewalk coughing, trying to catch her breath three times before the simply syrup was served to her. Once it was served - the evening was over the top enjoyable and I would recommend the restaurant to ALL for the incredible food!
Hi Katie, Thank you for dining with us and for your feedback on the food and the service you received. We apologize for the unfortunate incident you had with your server and will do our best to train our staff on how to handle situations and special requests like these in the future.
Great food, waitress was polite, and great atmosphere
Best vegetarian food. Family style. Excellent value and nice service.
Everything was great except we had to wait for a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time to be served!
We love Demera. We often grab dinner here before concerts in the area. The food is delicious and the service is always friendly and accommodating. Have never eaten anything here that we didn't love! It's all good! :)
Food was delicious and the experience was great. Service was a little slow at first but got better throughout the evening.
Of the Ethiopian restaurants along Broadway in Uptown and Edgewater, Demera is my favorite. It's attractive, the food is very good, the waitstaff is gracious and helpful. I'm vegetarian and especially like the red lentils, the spinach and the beets.
Such an awesome experience. Loved the food, restaurant and service. Will return again
Favorite place? Hit it every time I'm in Chicago!
Always delicious flavorful food!
Took friends who have never eaten Ethiopian food before. They loved it! Great experience all around.
Service was wonderful. Good was delicious.
