Demera is a great Ethiopian restaurant. Whenever I eat there, I am thrilled at how easily a vegan can enjoy so much delicious food. The servers are always great at suggesting combinations. Love this place.

Flavors very good. A little spicy for my taste, but I would definitely try it again!!! Service was polite and restaurant was clean. Can't get any closer to the Riviera Theatre than that!!!

Excellent service by the staff but our order took a very long time to prepare (a combo platter) so that stressed our stomachs a bit. The food itself was excellent and we would definitely come back - but allow for the delay in food prep. Great experience overall.

Demera was recommended to me from a number of friends. I chose to go mid week on an evening out with my companion. It was our first time dinning their and we had a minor event that I wanted to celebrate. The hostess was extremely helpful and could tell that I was new to the experience and gave wonderful recommendations and explain things in a very friendly, warm and scencire manner. The two tables that flanked our sides had groups of people attending a show at the near by theatre so they were in the throws of beginning to celebrate their evening. It added to familiar feel of the atmospher and chatting with them was very pleasant. To my companions surprise I exsacerbated the situation by drawing attention to our table from near by groups, with that said the staff included them selves in our excitement so many kudos to them. The drinks were fantastically delicious as well aromatic and intoxicating (we had the dirty martinis with a chili powder) the pre meal it self was new different and very flavorful. The dinner it self an entree for 2) was presented in a very dazzling way with all the colors and flavors and aromas coalescing into an spectacle for the senses. Lastly due to our celebratory situation the staff surprised us with a wonderful dessert that was just beyond compare, a very light airy cake mixed with some chocolate mousse and vanilla cream. Overall our experience was exceptional, we enjoyed our time their and the food was again beyond expectation. We will return soon and thank you for the great evening.

It is very small and tight inside, very hard to move. Tables are small for the platter they but on your table. I personally didn’t like the food but that’s just me. Service was okay.

Thank you so much for visiting our restaurant, we truly appreciate your feedback. We apologize that you did not fully enjoy your experience with us. It looks like you dined on a Saturday night, which can be very busy and crowded in our small space. Since your visit, we've eliminated one of the tables in our interior to allow for more room for our guests. As far as the food goes, we hope you'll give us another shot to help you find something that you do love!

We had to wait almost 30 minutes for a table. Luckily we were also running a bit late and not hard-pressed for time. The restaurant comped us an appetizer without us asking for anything and the food was amazing per usual. Always look forward to eating here.

Preface: thiss was our first time trying Ethiopian food so I don't have anything to compare it to, but we were not disappointed. Overall everything was great. I loved the atmosphere, our server and host were very attentive and polite. A couple of the dishes were too spicy for me, but my boyfriend enjoyed all the things we ordered ! (Also they serve wine flights - totally awesome!)

The best Ethiopian food I've had! We opted for the Demera vegetarian platter, which came with 9 vegetarian dishes. Some were the dishes you find at all Ethiopian restaurants, but there was a spinach dish and a beet/carrot dish I've never had anywhere else, and both were excellent. The Injera was perfect. The restaurant was full on a Saturday night at 9, so would definitely suggest reservations on the weekend. The service, considering how full the restaurant was, and the presence of some large groups, was fast and efficient, and we received our food much sooner than we expected to. The atmosphere is warm, crowded, and friendly. As full as the restaurant was, the noise level was not low, but we had no trouble carrying on a conversation. Definitely give it a try.

Even though they were busy and I arrived early for my reservation, they were able seat me quickly. The location only a few blocks from Lawrence station made getting there so easy. Service was fast, efficient, personable and kind. The food was outstanding. I would highly recommend Demera for a great night out.

A really fun place to go with a large group of friends. The food is excellent and the service was great. Interesting drink menu too-I really thought the honey wine paired well with the aromatic food. The family style meals are a great way to try a lot of dishes and they are a great value-plenty of food, so no need for appetizers. We even took some home. Will definitely go back.

We have been to Demera several times and always enjoy ourselves. We were a party of two and ordered the Appetizer Messob as well as the Demera Messob for two. The veggie dishes we particular good. The meat options (we chose a beef, lamb, and shrimp dish) were good but the meat was a little on the dry side. We love that they serve Xingu, a great Brazilian black beer. I'm glad we had a reservation because even at 5:30 on a Sunday, the restaurant was busy. Staff is friendly and helpful; they happily answer any questions you might have.

Demera is also great for larger groups!

Food and atmosphere at Demera are fabulous. We were there during "Restaurant Week" and took advantage of the special. Everything was great except the lime sorbet, which had a very strong flavor of anise which overpowered the lime. Vanilla ice cream would have been a better choice. Also, we were there on a very cold night. Thankfully, we chose not to sit by the windows but every time the door opened the temperature in the restaurant dropped.

I loved the food as usual. However, the Chicago Restaurant Week special was not a value, especially not the dinner option. In past years honey wine was included and the price point was cheaper.

Responded on February 11, 2019

Hi There, Thank you so much for your feedback and for visiting our restaurant. We are pleased to see that you loved the food! The restaurant week association raised its prices for all participating businesses by $4 this year which, as participants, we're required to comply with. However, we value your honest feedback and will take your concerns about the honeywine add-on option into account when planning for next year. Thank you again for your continued support of our business.
