Del Mar Rendezvous
The food (Kung Pao chicken) was quite good and the service prompt and friendly. Sitting at an outside table, soaking in the ambience and vibes of Del Mar was just an added bonus. The prices are a bit on the high side but, well, it is Del Mar.
We have been here before and will return. Food is very good and so is location. We have sat inside and outside and both are great depending on weather and your preference. There is a covered patio and heat lamps. Good wine selection.
Food was average Chinese American, but quite expensive... $22 for Pad Thai.
We arrived at 5:30 pm, one of the first tables, and ordered right away. It took over an hour to receive our food. Granted, several employees apologized and said they were swamped with take out orders. I would think the customers on site would have priority over new take out orders! Not acceptable. The food was ok, but nothing social. We would not go again.
Food is always good here, and $15 bottles of wine for lunch. Two of us had ribs, ahi and crispy duck wraps. A perfect meal!
The place is small but setup fairly nicely. The service was also decent but oh man the food was terrible. It’s like Panda Express food, fried, greasy and dunked in sauces with no flavor of it’s own. But you pay Del Mar prices for that. Not going back for sure
We are regulars at Rendezvouz, it was perfect as always.
It is always great food at Rendezvous, but if you are going to pack your restaurant, have enough servers and cooks to keep up with it!
Heard wonderful reviews of Rendezvous - and it was mostly true! Delicious food, good service and reasonable prices. My main concern was the lack of working outdoor heaters. At 55 degrees, it’s too cold to offer outdoor seating with no heaters. They did offer pull down plastic windows but it was really still too cold to enjoy our meal. My suggestion is to be sure to ask to be seated by working heaters (there were only a few) before dining outside.
It is always such a delightful dinner experience -- love grazing and trying different dishes. So happy they didn't change their menu -- it's the best!
Last minute change to their New Year’s Eve menu, limited choices and two courses for $55 each. Food was good and plentiful but not worth it. Bathroom was dirty and toilet didn’t flush. Servers were very nice. A bit of a wait because they were so busy and looked understaffed. Setting was nice. All considered, Won’t go back there.
The food was inedible and it was so overpriced, even for Christmas. Service was super slow even though the place was empty
Dissapointed to find only expensive prix fix menu available
Simply the best!
It’s over-rated. The food are not that authentic.
I think we caught them on a bad night. Overheard that a couple of their employees had called in sick that evening.
Food was slow out of the kitchen and timing was off. The items were lukewarm at best which was disappointing.
Food quality was good although a tad on the bland side, odd for Chinese food.
Will give them another try in a couple of weeks or so.
Great food but below average service.
Always a good experience, sometimes hard to get a good seat because of the smallness of the restaurant but always good food, good service, good everything!
We chose this restaurant for a birthday celebration because of their awesome seared ahi, a favorite of the birthday celebrant. Sadly, it was sold out. Our wine choices (one white and one red) were also sold out and we had to come up with alternative choices. The food we did get (and shared), was delicious. We especially liked the Pungent Chicken and the Pad Thai. We had a good time despite the initial disappointments.
Used to be a favorite, but should have known something had changed because all time slots were available for reservation. Too bad, but really poor experience. All four dishes were awful. Hope they can bring it back.
Loved it! We went at a busy time but we were in no rush. Always happy about going here.
Delicious varied food ! They have numerous gluten free items, dedicated pages of vegetarian options, delicious traditional Asian dishes , wine menu could improve but not by a much the only downside - it’s pricey .
Service was pleasant and friendly .
Search for coupons but if not , you’ll still enjoy .
Everything is always wonderful here. They take very good care of us and remember our favorites.
Food was so fresh. FINALLY, a chinese restaurant, in San Diego, with chinese food that is comparable to SFO's quality and authenticity.
Great! From the easy ordering to quick service, the best dinner out recently.
Excellent menu, food and service. A vegan’s delight for Asian food.
We had a wonderful evening. The waitress was outstanding and the food very good. I was a bit disappointed in that a few of us ordered our entrees to be spicy and they turned out to be rather bland. Overall, we were very satisfied.
I tried Del Mar Rendezvous several years ago for dinner and found that we always felt rushed because the restaurant closes rather early and the waitstaff is incapable of masking their being anxious to close and go home. The restaurant has vegan options and is a vegan oasis in the Del Mar location and it's a little pricey.
Recently I had had lunch there and it is a little less pricey then and the waitstaff were fine and didn't make us feel rushed like they do during the dinner hours.
I used love this restaurant and I thought best Chinese restaurant in North county. I visited for lunch the other day. I soon as found that chef changed. Unfortunately quality is totally different.
Shrimp walnuts tasted like a orange Chiken sauce in it ... so weird.
Potstickers are dried out...so sad.
I was wondering because of lunch?
If so I would like to go back for dinner again.
Awesome food in a great spot in Del Mar!
Ate on the patio and it was warm and welcoming.
We've been fans of Del Mar Rendezvous for years but our last few visits have rather turned us off. The food isn't as good as we remembered and the service, especially on this last visit, has not been great. I don't know if they just aren't getting sufficient servers into the place to deal with the number of tables, or what. They completely forgot one of our menu items and then gave us the wrong discount when we used our Passport card (my spouse didn't call them on it like I would have). We've decided we'll give this one a break for a while.
We went for my dads 85th birthday as he loves Chinese. All the food was great! The service was excellent and they made it special for my dad.
I wish I could have given a 5 star rating....they were out of the bottle of wine we wanted to order, BUT, our server got a colleague to assist and we loved what he suggested! That being said, we ordered potstickers and very spicy Kung pao chicken. The potstickers came (I had been craving them for days!) and they didn’t have any flavor to them, so I thought the sauce would help as well as the hot chili sauce, unfortunately the potsticker sauce was bland as well even by itself when you tasted it so to me that was kind of a fail. The Kung pow chicken was brought there was no rice it was kind of swimming and oil and I had asked for very spicy and this was no space at all.
Rendevous is our go-to Chinese restaurant in San Diego for pretty much any occasion. Date night, everyday dining, friends or family in town. The staff is consistent, reliable, and friendly and the food - no matter what you get - is outstanding. It’s an absolute GEM in Del Mar. Sitting outside you have views of the ocean
The food was delicious! We ordered Veggie Lo Mein with Bar-B-Q pork. It was supposed to come with baby corn, but did not. The waitress brought a bowl of baby corn to add. For the additional $3.50, there was not a lot of BBQ Pork, but the dish was still great. Also had the Saute Shrimp and Scallops - terrific!! It was a birthday and the free dessert was so big we had to take it home. Can't wait to go back.
Went for the early happy hour. Dim sum appetizer was basically free with the order of two entrees. Food was as very good and plentiful. Only thing that bothered me was that the restaurant was empty when we got there, I had made a reservation, and when I asked for a certain table I was told it was reserved for 6:30. I said I didn’t know you could r serve a certain table and the waiter said no, you couldn’t but it depend d on when you made the reservation. We go out to eat a lot and I have never herd anything like that ever. Anyway, we sat at the table I asked for and as the restaurant filled up no one ever looked like they had a problem sitting where they wanted to.
Great food as always, wonderful service, and amazing view!
As a long time patron of rendezvous, this visit was disappointing. The food was remarkably under-seasoned and bland. Even the chili oil didn’t seem to help. Of course, we will be back, hoping that this long-time stalwart has not deteriorated
