Decoy Dockside Ratings and Reviews
Our meals were not prepared the way that we ask them to be. I ordered fish and ask for it to be well done and it came out swimming. We were sat on the patio and we're hardly paid attention to. I had to find the manager to assist us with correcting our meals and getting our bill. They discounted our food but restaurant should not have to do this. They should prepare the meals as they are requested per customer.
Went for valentines day dinner. This was our fourth visit. previously all VG experiences. I ordered the beef medallion and ordered it well done as I knew it would come back medium. My girlfriend ordered the swordfish. After a longer than usual delay, our food arrived. Her fish was 'warm", my beef was bloody and rare. They took it back and butterflied the beef and returned it 10 mins. later without the peppercorn sauce. By then my girlfriend had finished. The beef was very tasty finally but I ate it alone. The dessert was lava cakes but they arrived way overcooked and "no lava". The waiter was very good and did reduce the price by ~15% but that wasn't the issue. We will still go back there as the food and service was very good previously but NOT on a Valentine's Day when the menu is limited and the food wasn't done properly.
We were at Decoy for Valentines Day dinner. We had a couple nice dinners there previously but I did not realize there would be a prix fixe menu that night with limited offerings . I have a mostly plant-based diet, very little wheat, very little dairy, no chicken or red meat, but I do eat fish once a week. The only fish on the menu was topped with chorizo, which the chef could not (would not?) alter. That left me with a pasta dish, not really on my diet but I ordered it anyway. Disappointing. Moral of story, make sure they're serving full menu when you go.
Although the food and ambiance was nice, our server was less than attentive, we started with cocktails and had he come around more we would have added a bottle of wine. We had to ask the bus boy to bring us a glass (by the time we got someone's attention we were almost done with dinner) but the restaurant loss an opportunity to sell additional drinks and wine.
Food and staff good but it is so load. The music is so load everyone is yelling to be heard. Pump some white noise into the building. Since there is no dance floor I don't understand why the music is so load. Recommend it for lunch but not dinner. Second time there will be the last.
Went for restaurant week and the appetizers were good but my friend’s ravioli was so salty it was inedible. My pork entree was raw. Sent them both back. Her second plate was under salted and my pork came back 15 minutes later more than well done. We had an 8:15 reservation and were seated right away. We finally walked out of there after dessert at 11:15. The entrees came out late with the waiter stating there was a computer glitch that the order didn’t get sent back to the kitchen. I struggle with that explanation since our appetizers came out in a relatively decent time. No manager came over to see how things were even though we were there for so long. I had to complain that the air conditioning was running and everyone around us was wearing their winter coats to eat dinner.
I thought to try Decoy during restaurant week, since I read reviews on next door about very improved service and food was spool much better. I agree with improved food quality and presentation. Also service was notably improved. Ambiance was spot on and water show was one of the best. Tried another restaurants (French restaurant) in Carlsbad did not come close to the food flavor and quality that we enjoyed at Decoy. Thank you Decoy for the wonderful experience. Will be ordering the Salmon everyone is raving about. Definitely will recommend Decoy to my friends. Congrats to Eddy (Best Bartender) for much deserved promotion. Great job on all fronts.
So this was my second time here and the first few times I was not impressed. The food I felt has always been good, this visit the food was great. Came out hot and it didn’t take forever. They gave time between courses to digest and talk. Our server Margarito, even though he was very busy, gave us enough attention. I had the salmon for main dish and it was perfect! I am a bread fanatic and their bread was a disappointment. If they are going to give that bread they are better off not serving it at all. Dessert was also a disappointment as the pastry was undercooked and soggy. I will go back but I just may skip dessert and the bread!
Great service from Ryan during restaurant week! Absolutely loved the ambiance — particularly the light show. Food was good — not great. Pork belly appetizer stood out. Tomato bisque soup was cool, chicken was pedestrian but sirloin was cooked perfectly.
We will return for the bar and perhaps another go round with regular menu!
We arrived 20 minutes late for our reservation, and the restaurant was very accommodating. Our server, Maguerito (not sure how to spell his name) was amazing.
We went for restaurant week, and our food was very good- the 3 course meals were $40- and $50.
My husband had the ahi tuna appetizer and he would definitely order that again.
The light show was an added bonus.
will definitely be back when my mother comes into town.
This place is lovely - it has a nice resort-on-the-lake feel (well, because it is part of a resort on a lake. Almost all of our food was excellent - the Salmon Oscar was great, for example. One dish - Pumpkin Ravioli - was swimming in butter, and I had chosen it because I thought it would be a somewhat light dish. There is a light show on the water (6:00 pm and 7:30 pm) that was really fun! Our server was very nice. Service was definitely slow, which was not a problem at all for us as we wanted time to catch up with our friends anyway, so for us it was a positive thing. But I commented as we left that if you are in a hurry (or you are dining with kids who would get restless) it would not be a good place to go. Overall, we really enjoyed our experience there!
This is a great North County gem, good menu in main dining and also another menu for dockside downstairs. The issue is the service needs a tune up, I have informed management before but it still has not improved. Checking in at hostess, no one was there to greet for 10 minutes and several employees including what looked like a supervisor just walk by. I hope it improves as I love the ambience.
On this occasion we had early dinner with our daughter who had just arrived from Florida. We ordered from the Sundown menu, which is a great value. The chef is creative with the menu choices and has a fine hand with seasoning. Service has improved over recent months. The servers are friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Decoy puts on a light show over the lake that is a must to see. Breakfast overlooking the lake is my idea of a perfect way to start the day.
This was our 5th meal in the Decoy (plus one downstairs at the Dockside). The food was not quite as good as previous times. Wife's salmon was undercooked. She ordered it medium but it was closer to rare. The waiter thought that it looked medium but if you google for images of both medium and rare - it matched the photos of rare. It tasted good to me. My Prime Rib Stroganoff came lukewarm. The meat was less than tender and it was missing the peas and mashed potatoes. Waiter said potatoes on the menu was incorrect - it didn't go with the gnocchi. He brought me a little cup of peas to add, but they were refrigerator cold. The sauce was so good that it made the dish desirable anyway. The best part was the butternut squash soup - best we've ever had. The waiter was nice but seemed to lack an understanding of the above issues. Overall service was great - and the atmosphere is always fantastic. Even though it was a Thursday, they had the lightshow over the water and it has gotten better over the months. The acoustics need some tweaking. It's much too loud and a drinking group in the bar area were so loud that people in the restaurant were shushing them repeatedly. Hanging some decorative panels to absorb the sound might help. We went for the Sunset dinner special which was a good value.
Amazing brunch spread, healthy and varied options (meats and veggies alike), this brunch is one of a kind. And a dessert table to bring out the “excited kid on Christmas morning” feeling! Service was great, attentive and respectful of our ongoing conversation and trips to get food. I would recommend the brunch here for friend or family get together. $40 for bottomless champagne and food, there are complimentary boat rides around the lake as well, simply bring your receipt after your meal.
I have been to the upstairs fancier restaurant upstairs and it was amazing atmosphere and the food was delicious! Our waiter Abdul was fantastic!!
Also, took my handicapped mother to the dockside restaurant outdoors,
the heaters are great and the lake and boats are wonderful scenery to see.
Food is great at both places. Service was a bit slow at the dockside table, but maybe a little under staffed for the afternoon rush.
Last Saturday was our first time at Decoy and all 4 of us enjoyed it. We all did the sun-downer menu (or whatever it's called) and enjoyed the various courses. And the price was quite good. A word of warning though. The wine has an extraordinary mark-up. Bring your own. The view out to the lake with that unbelievable water/light show was amazing. Don't sit, like we did, across from the wall decoration with the white plates. The reflection ruins the view of the show! We are going again next week to give it another try. I don't think you'll be disappointed!
