Decoy Dockside Ratings and Reviews
Experience was good., however requested a round table for 5 for business dinner and was told unavailable. There were round tables available. Would have preferred an email after making reservation that round table was unavailable so reservation could have been made elsewhere.
The ambience for Decoy is over the top! It is all about being tucked away on the Lake, the views and the fountain light presentations. The various dining room settings (fireplace, bar, etc.) and Dockside add to the overall warmth and inviting atmosphere. On our first couple of visits, the menu seemed to offer more variety (duck, rack of lamb, etc.). We will return in hopes that the kitchen brings back some of our favorites.
As a spoiled New Yorker, I’d say this is one of the better restaurants in North County. The price is high and the value is almost there, and I’m really rooting for them. That’s why I wrote this review when I rarely do. The food and drinks are very good. There are some kinks worth working out with the service and noise levels. Some better vegetarian options would also be appreciated. Will eat here again for sure. Thank you!
The service was slow. Our dishes came out without serving spoons or an oyster fork. The waiter didn't even notice so we had to call him over to remedy the situation. Poor service because of that.
Food very pricey and just mediocre. Not a good value for the price.
A group of us arrived for breakfast . The table was ready and waiting. The server and hostess were super friendly , attentive and helpful. The feeling was they were glad we were there. Nothing was a problem ,separate checks, extra person showed up,or lots of refills on coffee. They were glad to oblige. The setting is beautiful and comfy. We are for sure going back there.
Decoy is an amazing restaurant with spectacular views, a gorgeous dining room and a comfortable, modern setting. The food is good, but the menu has become more average, less interesting. Please bring back some of the more interesting duck, lamb and pork dishes please. I have been there many times and feel that you are missing an opportunity to cater to more elevated tastes.
Amazing venue for Sunday brunch. I had been here before for a girls dinner and was impressed then with the ambiance, food, and drink selection and was pleased again after having Sunday brunch here for my mom's birthday. What a great venue. Attention to detail was amazing and the service is what stood out for me. That is where restaurants need to understand that's what keeps a customer coming back. Our server, Mike, was amazing and super attentive and friendly. What a lovely venue with high quality, fresh food, bottomless mimosas and great selection. Worth it - have already referred friends to this place.
Thanksgiving buffet was ok, food was a bit salty for my taste. The venue was nice, felt like the hostess & bartender were a lot more nicer & attentive to the white patrons & felt like they looked down on us. Really wanted to like this place but honestly kind of mediocre & not worth the drive or the price.
We so enjoyed our Thanksgiving dinner 2017 at Decoy! Our group ranged in age from 10-90, and everyone had a blast. Little surprises like the light show, the boat ride, and the bean bag game added to the beautiful view and vibrant feel of the place. Oh, and the food was abundant and extremely delicious! If the rolls had been warm, that would have been great, but they were so busy, I forgave them. Thank you for the wonderful meal and happy memories, Decoy!
Loved this place. We have been looking for a new brunch restaurant and we have found it. The food selection was large and the quality seemed good. The restaurant sits on San Marcos lake so it is waterfront. It was a nice surprise to take a free boat ride after brunch. It really made the day special.
I found this place on Opentable and it sounded great. It had a huge menu and great views.
We got there and the views were great, but it’s actually two different restaurants and each has its own menu.
I liked the downstairs menu personally, but most of my guests liked the one from the upstairs dining room.
I asked the waiter about the Duck and he told me I could order it “crispy”, so I did.
It wasn’t at all crispy. It was rather flavorless and tough, drowned in some sweet sauce.
I may have to go back because the family liked the atmosphere, but to me, it was a fail.
Decoy Dockside was a perfect choice to celebrate my wife's birthday. The restaurant is quite beautiful and the food was excellent with unique ingredients and combinations that worked surprisingly well. And the desserts were amazing! They also projected an impressive and entertaining Halloween program onto the fountain mist in the lake outside the restaurant twice while we were there. All things considered, we had a lovely celebration!
The location is spectacular with a view of the lake. I used to go there when it was Quails Inn. It has gotten a great facelift. I had lox and bagels. The lox were great, but the bagel was too thick. Next time I will ask to substitute toasted rosemary bread instead. My friend loved the fruit and the avocado smash. I was also there a week or so ago (return visit is a good sign) and I had the shrimp Po Boy! It was delicious. Definitely, worth the drive!
Decoy for brunch was a great choice! We were a party of 6 that sat for several hours without being pressured to leave. Our server, Raye, was a hoot and kept us laughing while she poured the (bottomless) mimosas. The food was displayed very well, with different choices to satisfy every palette. I will definitely be back soon!
We love Decoys Dockside dining so we decided to go to brunch. Food we good and view is very nice. Service was not so great for the price point but we think they were understaffed. Manager and staff don't put out extra effort but decor and view make it worthwhile. Price was high so we expected a better experience.
The ambiance is outstanding. The service was very good. The food leaves a lot to be desired.
For the second time in a row eating there, they were out of my first choice for an entree (different each time). This is inexcusable at 6:00 PM or 7:00 PM (the times I dined). I ordered the scallops as a second choice. They were very soft, almost mushy. Very poorly prepared.
This would be one of my favorite places if they could get the food right. Kitchen management definitely needs improvement.
Got doneplaying golf at St Marks a short distance away. I requested to sit outside since i wanted to cool off. Beautiful lake view with black swans and several Duffys taking guests on tour of the lake. My appetizer was a wood fire Octopus, delicious. Main entree was a Braised Short Rib and my side was Cremini Mushrooms which I took home.My waiter was Noe, he was punctual and very nice young man. The restaurant was packed of out of town families and a few locals. Decoy has updated their menu with local organic grown foods. Before the menu was California fusion which people didn't like or understand. But now its more American style.
