This is beautiful setting for lunch.
Food was well-prepared, service was good. Can't wait to come back for dinner sometime!
Four of us took 'advantage' of the early bird $19 menu special. While the salmon main course was tasty, the sides were miniscule and barely enough to keep a small bird alive. The beef stroganoff entree was a disaster of tasteless and grizzled beef. The main menu of rather high priced items has been done well on previous visits, so were very surprised at such a disappointing experience in such a lovely lakeside setting.
Service was dreadfully slow. Food historically has been great, but tonight it was lousy.
Loved the Sunset menu - the butternut soup and stroganoff was truly delicious! Excellent flavor and value. Our server, Jason, was perfect.
My daughter lives in San Marcos, so we really want this place to be decent - it's not. Last night was a special occasion and I went in fully prepared to pay $500+ for a great meal to accompany my great company.
The dinner was a disgrace. I ordered the allegedly Prime Ribeye for $58 and got one of the worst steaks I've ever been served. It wasn't Prime, in fact it would have been a poor Choice. It wasn't seasoned, and as the photo shows, it was raw (I ordered it medium rare).
To make matters worse, the restaurant also failed remedying this disaster (other than taking the bad dishes off the bill.) The server took the steak and never came back for 20 minutes. We flagged down other servers who said "I don't know". I visited the kitchen where the manager told me it would be right out, but to stay out of the kitchen!
It arrived 35 minutes after I sent it back. It was now a NY Strip and the plate was all covered in grease. I told them I wasn't going to eat and we paid up and left.
1. The NY Strip my guest ordered was overdone (well done - ordered medium rare) and under seasoned.
2. The Cod another guest ordered was dry and overdone.
3. My wife's filet was overdone and under seasoned.
4. Despite the lovely bread plates, bread was never served.
This was our second visit. The first time the filets were good, but the short rib was so-so. I will add that the Brussels Sprout Appetizer, Butternut Soup, and Salad were good -- maybe it's time to promote the Soux Chef!
Lovely restaurant with wonderful views. Great service.
What a beautiful new restaurant! We had brunch, it was delicious. We always loved the location here. Now it is simply stunning! It's nice to have an upscale restaurant here in San Marcos. The view is stunning as always, but now the ambiance is really special. We loved it and will be returning soon.
The food and service were really good. The pulpo appetizer was cooked perfectly! I also had the mussels. Great meal!
I have no issue paying for a $48 steak, but when I do, I expect it to be worth it. It wasn't cooked properly. Hostess lost us and then noticed us much later and realized she had a table, which she rushed us off to 20 minutes late. (we did have reservations) Mistakes with the sides occurred as well. My wife and I eat at much better places for 25% less. We'll be taking our business elsewhere and so should you.
We sat on the patio and enjoyed our view of the lake. The server was very friendly. The food was great (harvest salad with chicken). Definitely a place we'll return to.
We used to go here for Sunday Brunch when it was Quails Inn. Decoy doesn't have the large selection of food like Quails Inn had before. More breakfast foods similar to Hometown Buffet than brunch selections for that price.
Great view and perfect spot for an outdoor date or occasion. Tasty food and good service!
Great find and the best foodie food in the North County! Worth the trip for dinner but even better if you can stay at the Lakehouse for a beautiful get-away! Great local wine, beautiful decor and the view makes you feel as if you’re on vacation far away...
We were staying at the Lakehouse resort, which made this restaurant very convenient. The food and service were good. I especially recommend the Brussels sprouts. The cocktails were delicious especially the Hemingway Daquari and the El Crispin (kind of a spicy margarita). It was overall an enjoyable evening.
We reserved a table for 4 to celebrate our son’s 29th birthday during the Sunset Special. The service was adequate and the view was incredible!
Although the food was delicious and all courses were tasty, the portions were too small to truly count as a meal.
This great place as far as Amo I eve hoes needs a big overhaul in service. The bad service continues here and is a shame for such an awesome location. My party was seated immediately and water was delivered promptly. The wait until order was well over 20 minutes from initial hello from Pierre, and then another ~20 minutes to take the order and then asked if we could have some bread after waiting 50-ish minutes. I would change the manager at this point as this has been on going issue. The food is great though. This review is for upstairs dining which is suppose to be high end. The staff downstairs on the dock are very attentive, shout out to Brian on the dock. Upstairs needs an operational overhaul.
We tried Decoy for the first time for Easter Brunch. The restaurant itself is attractive. The brunch buffet was just okay. Worth the $15/kid price but not worth $65/adult. They weren’t that busy but we still waited 15 minutes for a table when we had a reservation. Our waiter never came by. Only occasionally which was really annoying. At least we did not have to wait for food since it was a buffet but we were left thirsty.
Great setting for a date night. Service was attentive. Food was really good. Drinks were good too.
The restaurant was not busy, however service was slow. I asked the server if I should have the sirloin steak or a seafood offering, the server said definitely the steak. With the recommendation from the server, I ordered the steak. Later the server tells me they are out of the sirloin steak. So, I had the scallops, they were warm at best. As I said the service was slow the food came out very slow. As far as I could tell, the service was slow at each table and it was taking a long time for each table to get their food.
The food is nothing special, but the restaurant does try and I always appreciate effort. The restaurant was crowded when we were there.
Great atmosphere and view of the lake ...super nice and helpful staff....great food served hot!
Spectacular meal in a spectacular setting. Far exceeded expectations. Simply a MUST when you visit this area!
My wife and I truly enjoys the food and the atmosphere. The portion sizes were just right. The food was phenomenal. The drinks were cold. The service was outstanding. The staff is friendly and very helpful. The dining area was relaxing, outstanding and clean. We would recommend all the food. We will be returning as much as possible and when we are in the area.
We didn’t know what to expect aside from it being lakeside dining, and the view was gorgeous but the food was even better! And the watershow was an unexpected visual treat. We’ll definitely be coming back and bringing friends with!
We tried Decoy for the first time on Friday. Everything was amazing! So fun.
Food was interesting and creative, service was excellent, but the restaurant is definitely one for a specific 'audience'. Noisier than I like, very energetic and flashy. Great view of the lake and its graphics. The people were more interesting than the food - but earlier in the evening, before the 'show' began it was very pleasant, not as noisy and more focused on individual attention. Go early .
Met several couples for Sunday brunch. Great food service and view. So much fun, we will do it again.
It was my husband’s 50th birthday and I indicated that in our reservation. We were seated at a lovely corner table overlooking the lake. Our server was very polite and efficient. I selected the harvest salad, prime rib stroganoff and decoy bar from the $19.99 Monday thru Thursday menu (that included a salad, entree and dessert). The portions from the special menu are considerably smaller than the regular menu items. My husband ordered the butter lettuce salad and the braised short rib. Decoy sent over a very generous and delicious birthday dessert of chocolate cake and vanilla ice cream with caramel sauce. The braised short rib dinner and butter lettuce salad were substantial and very tasty.
Amazing food and atmosphere every time!
The brunch food was mediocre. Ambiance very good. The service was good but a little slow to attend the buffet.
It was first time for my husband and me.We absolutely loved it.Our server Jason was amazing ,food was great and list of wines and drinks was also very good.Decor of restaurant is very unique also the waterfront views of the lake ,swans and ducks make this place a very one of a kind.We will definitely be back soon😉
I would recommend Decoy to everyone for whatever occasion. We especially like to take our friends to see the "light show" on the lake.. my grandchildren said, Nana...this is like being at Disneyland! My only critique would be that the noise level does is not conducive to quiet conversation. It was disturbing to have to shout across the table to converse with our 3 other guests. I think it might be as a result of the table for 4 being large and a crowded room. Our server, Abdul, is always excellent. Attentive, friendly and always available to refill our wine glasses. I asked for us to be seated by a window when making the reservations and we were accommodated. All in all a very pleasant evening.
Breakfast was fantastic. The portions were very generous, delicious and reasonably priced. Dinner was very expensive and good. Although, the dinner service was very long and we were receiving a few plates at a time - 3 hours for a party of 22. The ambiance is great and the views are gorgeous.
We were their for a local wedding and were very disappointed to learn the bar closed at 12 midnight and the downstairs area closed at 10pm. It’s a great place but probably geared more towards low key couples or senior citizens. I’ve stayed at many hotels and this was truly a huge disappointment especially since our party had 30+ rooms booked. :/
It’s a lovely restaurant and the decor is great. But here is a suggestion, you may want to extend your bar hours on the weekend and have 2-3 servers for large parties at dinner.
Ryan our server was very attentive. Comfortable seating.
Nice bar area especially by the fire on a winters day.
This is now the 6th time I've brought family and friends to this restaurant. We were initially excited about having such a nice looking restaurant, with a great looking menu very near to where we lived, but have been greatly disappointed after going there several times. You can tell they lack sharpness in just about every part of their business. This seems to be from an overall lack of Management and Leadership. They are very sloppy at the bar...you can order a drink multiple times and it will always come out different or incorrect....or take forever. Even when you are sitting at the bar there seems to be an overall attitude of sloppiness and poor attention to detail. Their servers are below par, for the most part. This last visit was definitely the worst. The server forgot about us for most of the evening. I had to flag him and some junior level manager down 5 separate times to ask for refills...order more drinks...etc. The server kept blaming the bartender and the kitchen for their mistakes. The only reason we've come back several times, is that we were hoping that the ownership group would pay attention here, and make the significant changes necessary for this great looking restaurant to operate the way it should. I've spent SIGNIFICANT amounts of money here...but just can't see doing that any longer. I also would love to recommend this restaurant to tons of our friends, but I can't see myself doing that either. Fortunately the food is good...and there is some level of consistency there, so hopefully there can be that significant change in how they approach the front of house operations. Specifically, this restaurant needs a real, professional Management Team, every shift, paying attention to every detail.....hiring the Bartenders and Waitstaff this restaurant deserves. If they do, there is no reason at all they should be packed 7 nights a week. I'm rooting for them. This large part of North County really needs a great restaurant!
I have been trying to go back here several times after bad service at almost e wry meal (upstairs fine dining), but the service keeps failing. On this night, reservation was made, we were 5 minutes early but waited at hostess desk 14 minutes before being greeted, then after being seated it took 22 minutes for someone to even come to pour water let alone take a drink order. I have written to managemen with no response, I see others posting on yelp the same issues. It is a shame for such a great ambience environment to continue to fail at service. I hope they can fix this before I give up. I have been trying to see improvement since August 2017.
Our lunch was wonderful yesterday. We came to celebrate a friend's birthday and were so pleased with our food, the lovely weather and unbeatable views. We had the harvest salad as well as a pesto chicken sandwich and turkey, bacon sandwich. All were tops. Can't wait to go back.
Great ambiance. Friendly staff, but service was slow. Wait staff was not sure on several selections. Food was decent, but slow service took a away from the experience. The bar did not have several of the spirits listed in menu.
Great food, great meal, wonderful service and a nice free duffly boat ride on the lake after our meal. What could be better?
Excellent service, excellent food!
