We enjoyed Holley's (on Elgin) before it closed and are happy that Chef Mark Holley is back. It was a pleasure seeing and talking to him again.

All the food was great. We had the Thai Shrimp, deviled eggs, Halibut, Red Snapper, and coconut cake. Their wine list is good too. Chef Holley was around to check on us several times. You should go

We are so excited that chef Mark Holley is back and the chef at Davis St. Restaurant. Many of the favorites from Holley’s Seafood are on the menu along with some exciting new items.

When Holley’s Seafood closed shortly after Hurricane Harvey decimated Houston, one of Houston’s best and most unique dining experiences was gone. Now nearly two years later, Mark Holley is back bringing his unique recipes to Davis St. Restaurant . The Duck Gumbo, (once named the best gumbo in Houston) with a hearty seafood rue and Mark’s signature fried oysters on top is Exceptional! The hot rolls and spreads are on the menu too and still worth paying extra for. By the time our entrees arrived, we were stuffed and looking for room to put them. That said, my Crab and Alaskan Halibut were divine. The signature desserts will have to wait till next time.

WELCOME BACK, MARK. WE MISSED YOU!

We didn't realize they'd only been open a couple of weeks when we went. We'd been to chef Mark Holley's previous restaurant & that's what attracted us. They were busy so clearly we weren't the only ones who interested in seeing his new digs. Everyone was friendly & welcoming. We were early & sat at the bar to have an aperitif. The bar is in front of the open kitchen & it was a bit annoying as orders were yelled to the kitchen staff but that didn't last long. There was some chaos related to kitchen staff but we felt that was due to them finding their rhythm. (They don't even have a menu or much into, for that matter, on their website... yet, I hope!) The menu is eclectic and a fusion of flavors - New Orleans, Southern, Asian & more seeping into recipes & presentations. They inherited the wine from the previous Davis Street owners & are working on putting the list together. (Right now there's no vintages listed nor do they designate whites vs red wines in every case. It can be confusing but the Somm is extremely knowledgeable & helpful. He has the list committed to memory so can answer any questions but hopefully he can produce a list that patrons can make sense of.) We got clarification on some menu items & took recommendations to heart & were not disappointed! Hubby started with the gumbo & loved it. It's different from gumbos you're used to but he found it delightful. I started with the Crispy Shrimp - fried to a delicate crunch with a Thai flair (sauce & slaw). I enjoyed it! For our meal we went with the most recommended dish - whole fish Crispy Snapper for two. Wow! The presentation is like nothing we've ever seen & it tasted as good as it looked accompanied by Collard Greens & Hoppin' John Fried Rice... Whew! We added Truffle Mac & Cheese for good measure. OMG! And the rolls... gracious they were good. It was a great evening & we will be back.

Chef Holly is back and the food that we remembered from Holly’s is back also. Very pleased to see the Dover Sole on the menu the evening we went. Served with crab meat and roasted vegetables, excellent. The gumbo is rich and full of meat with the right amount of spice. We skipped dessert but the favorites are still on the menu. Don’t miss the kimchi collard greens or the Parker house rolls. Definitely worth the wait to dine with Chef Holly.

Have been looking forward to Mark Holley’s return! We had classics (Thai Snapper, Key Lime dessert, fried shrimp appetizers) and enjoyed them all. Great to have a NOLA-style restaurant back with a chef that never disappoints!

Food was deliciously wonderful! We started with gulf oysters on the half shell, crunchy Thai shrimp (so good), halibut with crab and finished it off with a key lime pie that is out of this world good. A cross between pie and cheesecake.

My only complaint is communication: 1) website- when you call for reservations and simply press the phone icon, you get a recording saying “ this is not a working number “; so then 2) you go to the Open Table option and they show no seating availability for a group our size until 8:30- too late for dinner for many people. We eventually found a good , working telephone number and were able to get a table for 6 at 6:30 by calling. When we arrived at 6:30, there were actually many empty tables available.
In my opinion, Mark Holley is the best chef in the City, and deserves more than this from his marketing personnel.
